I'm having problems typing from my iPad.It takes very long for the keystrokes to register and I have missing letters. I actually have to type it out before in my Notes, then copy and paste here. Any ideas why this is happening?
-
Deb, I sometimes have that problem w/my email or other sites on the iPad. I have no idea what causes it, however.
-
Hopeful, I only have this problem typing on the BCO website. Maybe the tech team will know what the problem i

I have the same issue with my iPad, and it's quite frustrating. It only happens to me when attempting to post on BCO. The mods have sent this issue to the tech team before. They're usually johnny-on-the-spot with glitch fixes, so I can only imagine that this one is giving them fits. I hope they figure it out soon, because so many of us use mobile devices to stay in touch here.

Do any of you using iPads find that you can't make paragraph breaks on this site on your iPad? If I write a post and submit it from the iPad it won't show any breaks I inserted while typing. However, if I later go to that post while on my desktop computer it will show the paragraphs if I go into edit mode and then re-save the post. It frankly drives me a bit nuts.
-
Hey All,
We've reported this to our tech team
Thanks!
-
Mods, further to the paragraph break problem with older iPads, this is fairly recent and coincides in time with the changes BCO has made around the Apple Research project.
I do not have the same problem showing paragraphs posting on other forums, just BCO. Like hopeful I have gone back and edited some of my posts on my desktop but why should I have to bother? Posts do show correctly in Preview before submitting why not after?

Ladies, I used to have very similar problems with typing posts onmy mini iPad. I would type just a few lines or less and it would freeze. It was very frustrating. It didn't happen on other sites.
Then, a couple weeks ago, I decided to update to the 8.3 iOS . The iPad didn't have enough free space, so I spent some time deleting photos, putting the rest on a thumb drive and clearing off other stuff. I googled "how to clean up and speed up iPad" and got lots of very useful tips.
Then I installed the 8.3 iOS and.....my iPad has not frozen on this site since I did all that. I'm very happy with the results

I have an earlier version of the iPad that can only be updated to ios 5.5. I can only use safari as a browser. I don't seem to have the same problem that I used to have with with cursor lag so the techs have done something, dropping letters seems to be new and also the inability to do paragraphs.
I am sending this from an even older iPod to see what happens.

Hi Mods. When I signed in today, I noticed that my little menu thingy was telling me there were responses to "My favorite topics", like 4 different ones. I've never added a topic to "my favourite", so that was weird. Quite sure I haven't clicked that by accident 4 times. Anyhoo, no big deal, just unclicked them, but thought I'd mention in case it's part of a bigger glitch.

Leggo and JO-5-
Thanks for bringing these issues to our attention! They might be one-off glitches, but we'll pass them along to our tech team nonetheless, to make sure they're not part of a bigger problem. And let us know if they keep happening, or if anything else pops up!

Hey, Mods, not sure if you're aware, but something is going on with Active Topics. I keep getting this message:
-
Hey AZ-
Are you still getting that message? Have you tried logging out and clearing your cache and cookies, then logging back in? We just went through each menu tab on our end and don't seem to have the same issue, but we're looking into it. Let us know if it persists or anything else comes up. Thanks!

Nope. Everything's back to 'normal' now. The error message lasted about five or ten minutes and then the issue resolved itself. Thanks!
-
For some reason the print on the discussion boards has gotten so small that I can hardly read it. I don't know what I did to cause this or how to correct it. Can anyone give me a suggestion?
-
Rita, can't you go into your page settings -- just up top of this page. It will have a setting for small, med, and lg. and you should be able to make a permanent change there pretty much. There is also a tools setting there. If it is just this site -- then I think using the page/tools setting connected with this page would be all you might need.

Also I think somebody said - hold down the control key and push the plus or minus keys.
-
That you ladies! You saved my eyesight! I found the settings and got it fixed. Wow....still don't know what I did but I sure appreciate your help!

I decided to use my tablet today instead of burning through data on my phone and Holy Cow, it took about 3 to 5 minutes for every line of text to show up on pm's. It took almost twenty minutes to be able to submit 6 lines of text (not exagerating!). I've never had that problem on my phone or pc. My cache is clean. Everything is current and updated. Any ideas what the problem might be? Ironically, it's not lagging while I'm typing this message...pm's only.
-
leggo, we know that this unfortunately sometimes happens. Any chance you can update your browser?
-
Oops, sorry. Didn't know it was a known problem on other stuff. Thought it was ipad related. I have two browsers (Dolphin and Firefox). Both are up to date. Maybe because I have two. I'll uninstall one and see if that helps. Thanks for answering.
-
mods,
I have mentioned this before, as have others. Using Safari on my iPad, I have a very difficult time posting to threads or sending pm's. After typing roughly two to three lines, there is a huge lag time between my touching the keyboard and the appearance of characters on the screen. Thus, anything more than a brief message is torturously slow. I only have this problem on bco.
Thanks,
Caryn
-
Yes, we know. Will discuss again
-
It's so tortuously slow that it's not really possible to use Safari on my iPad when I want to post on bco. The bco tech folks must be truly flummoxed by this issue, because normally they're lightening fast in fixing problems. I send them best wishes for some kind of resolution of this pesky problem!
-
the other thing that happens on the iPad (well at least on mine) is that the cursor is not in the box but it is about an inch higher and you have to kind of roll it down a couple of times before you can see what you're typing, has anyone on the tech team though about contacting Apple to see if they could help or bounce around some ideas
-
hbcheryl, that's an interesting suggestion. BCO is partnering on the new Apple researchkit app, so there must be some nice, friendly connections between both organizations. And Apple is a huge company, and BC incidence being what it is, lot of Apple women know BC personally. Some of them probably use this wonderful social media site. Yoo hoo, women of Apple: can somebody lend a hand here?
-
I was just thinking tech people like puzzles, and this is a real puzzle, for me it started when I upgraded to IOS8, I just feel bad for the Stage IV ladies who spend so much time on BCO it is just frustrating, and kudos to the techie who can figure it out!!!!!!
-
The iPad problem has been so persistent, it's clearly not something simple to fix. I believe that everyone working at BCO takes our needs seriously and wants to do whatever is possible to make this community accessible to all. They must be so frustrated with this one! This is indeed a real puzzle.
-
Thanks hbcheryl and carol57,
Yes, indeed we are taking this glitch seriously! We have our team on the issue and hope to have a solution soon. We thank you all for your patience as we worth through this!

We have an iPad typing issue solution!!
iPad users who know they have issues typing with the rich text editor; tap the "Use plain text editor" link before you start to type a post -- the link is located at the bottom right of the post text field, next to the Preview and Submit buttons. This will turn the rich text editor into a plain text box, which does not have any formatting options (e.g. bold, italic), but should be faster.
Unfortunately, clicking this link and toggling to a plain text box will not permanently keep this as your default setting -- at this time, you'll have to tap the link each time you want to post. This is only meant as an interim fix -- unfortunately, a permanent fix will require money and time. Hopefully, we'll be able to implement a permanent fix in the future, but this should work for those having trouble in the time-being.
We hope this helps, and please let us know if you have any questions or trouble using this new feature!
