Oncotype DX Score of 24 - Chemo?

I am 54, diagnosed with a Stage IIA, Grade 3, 1.7 cm, sentinel lymph node positive cancer. The oncologist just called me with the score, and although it's not high (mid-intermediate range), he's recommending chemotherapy. I was hoping to avoid that because of the potential side effects and health related fallout from it. Anyone else have the same issue? If so, what did you do?

Hi Liz, I am Stage 1, node negative, grade 1 with an Oncotype of 24 and I did 6 cycles of TC on the recommendation of my oncologist. Make sure that you talk to your oncologist about what amount of risk reduction you should expect with chemo and why they recommend it. That information along with the input of my husband and grown children helped me make the decision for chemo. Chemo wasn't fun, but "we" got through it and I have no regrets. This is a difficult decision for sure.

    Love, MsP

My Oncotype score was 26. My oncologist recommended chemo. After research and talking with DH I had decided that if the score was 21 or above I would do chemo if she recommended it. My youngest is 13 so I wanted the best odds I could to not go through this again. I get the port on Friday and start cyclophosphamide and taxel on Monday. 4 sessions, 3 week apart
