Momarch, also adding my prayers for you as you begin this next journey.
The sun was out here but has gone to in and out.
Had my mammo, good results. Now I can breathe for another year. Never gets any easier, does it?
-
Bonnets - so glad for you that the mammo had good results. Nope - I don't think it ever gets easier.
-
Bonnets....YAY on the good mammo. Nope, I don't think it ever gets easier! Now you can take a big sigh of relief and go on with your life for another year!!!!! Doing the happy dance for you!
-
Great news, Bonnets! Yay for good mammogram!
Jackie, you are one of the most positive people I've ever known. You see everything in a constructive light.
Gorgeous day here. I played golf early, 8 am tee time, and had lunch with three of my friends who played. One didn't stay. I'm proud of myself because the buffet featured fried catfish and big home fries. Both looked really good, but I made myself a salad off the salad bar and enjoyed it with a glass of iced tea. I knew I would be cooking a good dinner tonight. So I'm patting myself on the back!
After lunch I went to Walmart's to buy groceries for my mother, who had given me a list. I continue to be thankful for her good spirits. She's amazing for a 92 year old living by herself.
Mommarch, you're in my thoughts.
-
Bonnets -- count me in
being delighted for the good mammo. It has been 8 yrs. of good mammo pics for me and I still get just a little twinge. I hope that is all you and I and everyone here ever have. Jackie

Good morning, everyone. Another beautiful day here. Perfect day for yard work. I'll tackle the big stack of pine straw bales I had delivered last week and get some mulching done. Also more weeding. It will be good for me to get that exercise. It will be good for me to get that exercise. It will be good for me.... LOL!
Hugs to all.

For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin--real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be got through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life. -Alfred D'Souza

Another beauty of a day. It will get up to almost 80 the weather man said
so it will be good weather for Bermuda's probably. Will be like that most of the week-end and coming week. Just nice !!!!Good exercise, good exercise. We bought a month's pass at the Rec Center for the walking track and the gym combined. Will see how it goes. I'm ( I think ) more inclined to try just the walking pass ( $12.00 per month ) and figure out exercises to do here at home. My issue is I have to figure a time to incorporate that and then FORCE myself to begin to do it. The pass I just got was $32.00 -- not so terrible but it is just for a month and I think ( at least for me ) is a bit pricey. I did take it this time to try it out as I had 7 days left on my old ( last month's ) pass and she just let me add the two passes together so got five weeks on the new pass. The old pass was just a walking only pass -- so it was a good time to do the combination pass.
Bearing in mind -- the last few times I took the Next class --- the instructor kept telling us that 3-10 minutes rounds of exercise with gusto --- had been found to produce as much if not more fitness for you than doing something for 30 mins a day. Part of the benefit was just doing more than one session and I felt like the indicators were that 3 times with some gusto actually made it more like your working out for longer than the 30 mins most people do when they do it once a day. Like maybe the benefit for 45 to 60 mins a day. Well, that may be next on my list with a walking pass. I guess I just have to hope that the inspiration ( will this be the week I REALLY.REALLY get control ) to keep looking for solid, fruitful answers at the age of 70 is there. Also hope along with that to get the inspiration to leave the cookies and ice cream alone. Now that would really be a boon and boost to me.....sigh, but they still taste so good -- especially after a big hearty and healthy salad you know.
See you all later. Enjoy the sun !!!
Blessings

Happy 85th birthday to Nancy Drew! The first volume in the long-running girl detective series, "The Secret of the Old Clock," was published 85 years ago this week under the pseudonym Carolyn Keene.

In America, literature for teenage girls made its debut in 1930 in the person of Nancy Drew.” This original Mighty Girl character paved the way for many more heroic female characters and inspired generations of real-life girls and women.
Ghostwritten by Mildred Wirt Benson and later revised by Harriet Stratemeyer Adams, the first volume of Nancy Drew had a huge influence on young readers. Nancy Drew provided them with “stories of someone like themselves who had a positive effect on the world instead of passively sitting at home. She is a character with that magical ‘what if’ question woven into her identity, and one that effortlessly captures the imaginations of readers by allowing them to participate in a world where the answers to that question are just as entertaining as the stories themselves.”
At the time, some viewed Nancy Drew as a poor role model, “contradicting adults while she squared off with the villains… she is mechanically inclined and at the same time doesn’t act like most people in the 1930s would have expected a teenage girl to act.” In fact, many libraries and bookstores refused to carry the Nancy Drew stories. Despite -- or because of -- that disapproval, kids collected the books voraciously, and in the midst of the Depression, used copies were shared and traded like trading cards are today. As a result, “any kid, even those who couldn’t afford new books, would very likely get to read every adventure starring their favorite character.”
Did you grow up reading Nancy Drew? I spent the entire summer of 1959 reading them one after the other until I finished the whole series.
-
I did read the whole Nancy Drew series as well as the Hardy Boys and Cherry Ames, Nurse series. Loved them all.
I am waiting for my DGD to arrive to help celebrate my DGS's 16th birthday.
Anne
-
I read a few Hardy Boys, but all of Nancy Drew and Cherry Ames. I loved a series called Maida's Little House about a rich girl with friends whose parents let them move in with her. Then the group had adventures. Can you tell I was an only child?
-
The Nancy Drew books....ah that brings back good memories. I think I read just about anything I could get my hands on and I guess I still do!
Anne...have fun celebratings your DGS's birthday! :-)
It was a gorgeous day to golf today and I golfed in a ladies' scramble. It was a good thing that the weather and the company was good because we finished dead last! We just could't make the shots that we needed to make at the right time. I probably should have stayed home and done yardwork! Oh well, it will wait for me.
I planned on doing some weeding when I got home but they are plowing the field in front of our house and the dirt and dust is flying! I don't think that would be too good for the allergies!
Hope everyone is having a good weekend.
-
I read Nancy Drew. Maybe that's where my interest in mystery stories began. Last night I finished a book called Cemetery Dance that was quite a far-fetched and bizarre story with magic elements. I kept wondering iif there would be a common-sense explanation to the happenings that seemed supernatural. It was definitely a page turner. The writers are two men who collaborate. Can't recall their names and am too lazy to get up and find out by looking at the book!
I got in a little more than 2 hours of yard work, then came inside and made a big pot of spaghetti sauce for tomorrow's dinner at my mother's house. I also baked a pan of brownies. Used a Ghirardelli mix, didn't make them from scratch.
Jackie, I like that quote about waiting for life to begin. As for the gym membership, I have all kinds of exercise equipment but what has worked for me is having a regular schedule of going to the YMCA at least twice a week. The home gym requires a lot of discipline and I apparently lacked that discipline. There is something helpful about being in the presence of other people who are exercising. It costs us $69 a month for the membership, which is quite a lot.
Just came back from getting clothes out of the dryer. Those authors are Preston & Child.
-
I had a great number of the Nancy Drew books. Can't remember how many. I also read all of the Cherry Ames books,( probably influenced me to go into nursing my first profession.)
Carole, I'm drooling, love those Ghiradelli brownies,, but since I've gone totally off caffeine to combat my tachycardia, I can't have any, Have one for me.
Had lunch with my good friend, then shopping. I was good only bought a top and some bathroom towels. We love Home Goods and TJ Maxx/Marshals! Then came home to gather stuff for the annual trash collection.
It was in the 70's today, in the 70s and 80s next week. Things are greening up and the trees in bloom. Love this time of year, but the weeds are growing too. Got to look for one of those kneelers Chevy!
-
Bonnets... they are just so handy! I have one for outside, and one for inside like when I work in the lower cupboards, drawers, etc. Got the picnic table painted, along with the bench... And gettings things organized a little better....
Did any of you read A Woman of Substance? I think by Barbara Taylor Bradford.... also Memoirs of a Geisha.... Stories of lives are so interesting....
I didn't really read during my school years.... Not until about 15 years ago.... My Daughter gave me a book by Danielle Steele called The Kiss.... I just got interested in reading, and have read almost all of her books.... I got most of my books from second-hand stores, or the Flea Market.... And when our stores have bought lots of marked-down books.... We can get great deals that way.... I also downloaded a lot of free books to read on my Nook, but since they are downloaded onto my computer, it is easier to read them on this 23" monitor!
I LOVED the 3 books you sent Carole! You don't write anymore, do you? It is just so nice to get "lost" in a story....
-
Oh yes, Nancy Drew and Cherry Ames, loved those books.
I led a fieldtrip for beginner birders this morning. The man who taught the classroom part wasn't available for the first 2 fieldtrips and I said I could help today anyway. Birds were scarce the first hour but then picked up.
I came home to find Lew had woke up with pink eye and his eyes were glued shut. So a trip to the Walk In clinic got him some antibiotic drops. The Dr gave him a refill in case I get it too, can just go pick up the refill bottle.
-
Sorry Puffin! When my Doc would write a prescription out for refills, I would order them anyway.... always had extra on hand.... just in case. Did this with ointments for my skin...
So it must be an infection from something?

Good news. Medicare part B covers the medicene and supp should pick up the balance. Cancer clinic is mailing it out tomorrow. Should get started by Thursday. It is covered under durable equip. Who would have guessed. Yesterday my friend and I took DGD to El Paso prom dress shopping. After seven stores we finally found one. Today we are going to go and watch her perform the Flamenco dance for cinco demyo. Have a blessed day.
-
Breathing a sigh of relief for answered prayers -- Mommarch, hope things start to be even more positive now.
Prom dress shopping. How good can it get. I hope today is just fantastic for everyone.
Blessings
Jackie

Lew's pink eye could be from allergies, a virus or bacteria. The drops will only help if it's a bacterial infection. It's not better yet, his eyes feel like they have sand in them
-
Good morning, all. The muggies are creeping back. We turned the a/c back on yesterday. The air looks different when it's humid. It loses that brightness and clarity of low humidity air.
Monday's schedule: more yard work, driving my mother to an apptment for an Echo at 1 pm, WW meeting at 5:30 pm. Maybe it will give me the kick in the butt I need if I start going to WW meetings again and pay some $$ until I get back down to goal weight. I definitely won't learn anything at the meetings after being a lifetime member for umpteen years. This is a new WW meeting location at the YMCA where dh and I are members. I always enjoy the company of the other attendees.
Mommarch, great news that insurance will cover your oral meds. A good omen for the success of your attack on the evil C. Hugs to you.
Hugs to Blondie, Mike and Sandra, Cammi, and all of us with health issues.

Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it. ~ Buddha

Morning,
Pretty here right now but muted or no sun. We are due to get some rain and really, it has been a bit so not probably a bad thing. I'm in the middle of inside-type things anyway so not a big thing for me. Still trying to decide whether to put in the screen door but I doubt it would hurt. The house is pretty warm ( to me anyway ) and I would enjoy it. Dh is a bit 'cooler' than me. He is not in a big hurry. I sneak behind him and turn down the furnace when we have it on as he forgets I think that sitting and doing nothing for a stretch tends to "cool" you down. I'll have to get him to stand and do a few jumping jacks --- then maybe we will be closer together on temps.
I am better about gray skies ( far from elated mind you ) in Spring and Summer. I think there is nothing that smells better that the outdoors after a good summer shower. We usually don't have days of grayness and rain going on either. I guess it just seems more natural this time of yr. If it lasted more than a few hours --- well, I'd need that special light that banishes the moodiness perfectly.
Carole, I know what you mean about learning things from meetings you have gone to so long. The NEXT classes are like that. I took it three times as the instructor had to go so fast to get all the information in. Each time ( everything -- even solid information changes a bit ) because of wording things a different way or presenting small pieces of info she didn't previously mention -- gave me new items, but all in all --- there is only so much to learn.
I think a lot of people benefit from doing something that has a structured time and a number of other participants, so going to classes more than once suited me. At our Rec. Center -- they also have wt. watcher classes. I may give that a try --- don't know that I would actually lose much --- but it would be interesting maybe from the stand-point of the good materials I learned from the NEXT class. NEXT was not only about losing wt. but replacing negative foods you may have been consuming with better alternatives. The time I did Wt. Watchers the point system was playing a heavy role. Eat anything you want as long as you didn't go over your points. I fell off the wagon there after losing 32 #'s and never got back on. Then, I did South Beach. That was better for me because that was where I 'broke' my addiction to sugar and salt -- and some of the food I felt was a bit better. They ( if memory serves ) were more into getting satisfaction from eating enough protein to keep you feeling full.
The best plan ( as one of the NEXT class Dr.'s pointed out ) is the one you will stick with as a beneficial lifestyle change. Now I really liked that guy's way of saying YOU will be on a diet for life, but it is negative to say it that way so just SEE it as a Lifestyle Change. He is right --- some four letter words just get under your skin and make you feel a bit deprived before you even begin. I can live with a lifestyle change. So, maybe its time I do.
Anyway, need to get started for the day. I hope it is going to fantastic for everyone.
I also second your feelings Carole about Cammi, Mike & Sandra and Blondie. and anyone having to deal with 'health' right now. In my thoughts, prayers, and huge hopes for it all to go ok.
Blessings

Bonnets! Yay fora good mammogram!
Gorgeous day here.
Mommarch, you're in my thoughts and prayers. Glad your meds will be covered Prom dress shopping sounds like fun. I had all boys so I only shopped for tuxedos.
Puffin, sorry to hear about Lew's eyes. Hopefully they will be better soon
Had to go in for a colonoscopy. Started the first part of the prep and threw it all back up. I called in to the clinic and was told to get 64 ounces of gatorade and mix with a certain amount of miralax. I will never drink gatorade again. At least it worked and I was able to get it done. Everything okay. Also saw the onc. dr. and I can finish my femara and then I am done with it. Do not have to go to onc. dr for 1 year. (Doing the Happy Dance)
I started taking crocheting classes and cake decorating classes. they are so much fun. We have been talking about downsizing so we are cleaning out closets, garage and cabinets. We are thinking about going to Florida. For the ladies that live in the south. Do you like carpet or tile in the bedrooms?
Hope everyone is having a good week
Emmy
-
Termite, good news that the colonoscopy results showed no problems. We have carpet in our bedrooms.
I went to the WW meeting. The leader, Michelle, is very nice but not as much fun as Helen, the leader in the Mon. morning meeting I used to attend. This is a different group of people. I enjoyed a conversation with an attractive woman who sat next to me. She didn't appear to have a lot of weight to lose.
Wishing everyone a pleasant evening.

Maya rose

-
Hi All
Blondie- Maya Rose is beautiful. Have fun with her whenever you can.
Emmy- I live in So Fl and have wood floors everywhere except the Master bedroom, which is now my daughter's room. I very much prefer carpet in the bedrooms but was overridden by my husband who insisted that wood in the kids rooms would be so much easier to keep clean. It's not. And when we made the change about 10 years ago, we went with laminate, which is lifting in a lot of places from spills, etc. The laminate has come a long way since then - my son just had his whole house done and it looks great.
My DGS's birthday party went well. He had fun and so did we. Of course, it was basically 2 parties- one for his friends and one for the adults. The best part for me - I was able to reunite my older son with his best friend from childhood. The friend just recently moved from So Fl to 11 miles away from my daughter, and they are actually interested in buying a home in her development. First time all of us have met his wife and sons, who were very shy when they arrived. About an hour later, the younger one (2) just climbs up on my lap to watch TV with me. He chose the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. The wife fit right in and I think they will part of any parties from now on, and will be included whenever Rob comes over.
Worst part was I must have twisted my upper chest somehow and aggravated the incision on the right side. It was painful enough that Nancy noticed ( which is not too surprising- she knows me so well) but her best friend noticed too. They took me in the bedroom to see if there was any bleeding and it was the first time Michelle has seen my body since the surgery. She lost her mother a few months ago and she just burst in to tears, saying I can't lose you too. We are so close that when my DH passed away, she flew down from Atlanta to be there for the funeral and flew back in time to pick her son up at daycare that afternoon.
I go back to the surgeon tomorrow to see if my infection has cleared up. If he gives me the okay, I will hopefully be heading back to Fl next Tues. I was looking at flights over the weekend, but because Sun is Mothers Day, the flights cost incredibly more that usual. I can get a nonstop Spirit Airlines flight on Tues for $50. From Thurs to Mon, it is over $200 for the same flight. I sure hope he gives me the okay to travel because my DGS has his band concert either Tues or Wed night. Don't want to miss it
Thoughts and prayers, Mommarch.

We went to our DGD awards banquet last night. She got a medal for UIL, One Act Play and Spanish Club. Very proud of her. They roasted big whole rib eyes on the grill. I put in a miserable night, the meat was quite fatty. Awoke with stomach pain and then my arm started hurting. I was going to the broom shop with DH but he told me to stay home and sleep late. Which I did I did not get up until 11:00 AM. Nothing much else going on, just waiting for my chemo med to arrive.
