Hah Spookie! Good one!

A few years ago, a few gals on BC.ORG were talking about "cleansing, cupping,"and all SORTS of weird things they try to help them cure their cancer. Some might benefit by these methods, but they're not for me!

I remember my SIL had an Aunt, that refused to do ANYthing for her Breast Cancer..... thinking she could heal it by...... what-ever..... Well, you can guess the rest.... And I'm told it was not easy to watch. We have come sooooooooo far, with a lot of different treatments.... I KNOW it all depends on your age, grade, type, stage, lymph node involvement, and the size......

But to try only Holistic, treatments just doesn't make sense.....

Okay.... can you gals tell me how long you keep your boxed goods for after the "best if used by" date? Even canned goods. I know I shouldn't keep things so long, or buy MORE things, but it just seems right if it is on sale.... I just threw out 2 grocery bags of "stuff!" My DH took away ANOTHER bag of boxed cake/cookie mixes.... Some were just gross.... I have to do better with that stuff.....

CHEVY, depends on what it is, and the date. If not in fridge and only a month or two, I'd probably use it. I try to watch that, but stuff in the fridge gets overlooked, frequently. I just pitched a bunch of BBQ bottles, waaaay out of date!!

I've been lucky, haven't had anyone say anything stupid to me. Patty, glad you're feeling a little better. Sleep is a good thing. Did they ever figure what's wrong?

Here's the table topper, mostly done, have to some light quilting on it. I don't know why the pic shows so much blue, it's not really. For girlfriend BD next week

Funny I lived in Switzerland in 1977 for 4 months. They have tiny little college sized frigs. There were charming vegetable trucks that went up and down the street, folks would pop out and buy what they needed. I remember folks, even old people on mopeds with 2 metal baskets on the back with a bag of groceries and french bread poking out. It is nice to buy fresh and just make what you intend to eat that day. Their shopping styles are wildly different from ours. I do like the convenience of a freezer in the garage.. stock up on sales and freeze bread. We do waste some that way for sure. Europeans would never understand the concept of Costco... frankly now the kids are out, college etc.. if it wasn't for the pet foods and hearing aides, I could give up our membership. The qty of food is too much for just 3 people. I think we eat too much because we buy too much!

Chevy- my parents were Depression era babies. My mother came from a well to do family so they did not struggle through that time, but my father came from a very poor community and when the Great Depression came, It was bad.

Fast forward to the 1960s to 70's as I was growing up. My mother had canned food upstairs, but sometime during my childhood, my father started creating a HUGE pantry downstairs where he stocked many canned supplies. Waiting for the next Depression he was sure would come. Food we never did eat. We had to clean out all that old food at one point. I think once you have gone through that or anything else where there was not enough food, it is a nature thing to stock lots food.

My version is more like "what if I get sick and cannot get to the store?" Living alone makes one keep storage on hand too. I like to keep enough in the pantry and freezer for those times when I need food but something interferes with me getting out to shop.

Spookie, Very funny!!

We don't have enough storage space to stock up. DS said all we have is spices and he's right. Last night I made curry and we had everything I needed. We should have a little more on hand in case of earthquake, but we eat mostly fresh food. There's a farmer's market on Sunday and a little fruit & veg store about 6 blocks away that has great prices. We buy canned tuna from one of the fishing boats. They line catch and test for mercury. When you open the can there's a big chunk of tuna, not flakes. We're starting to get salad greens from the little planter on our deck. They taste so different from store greens.

Well, if you think THAT is bad..... When I was just married, the Land-lord had Chickens.... They kept laying eggs, and I asked Estel, the man, "Why don't you just leave the eggs there, to give them time to hatch?" ... He said "We don't have a Rooster...they are HENS!" And I said " Yes, I know, but you still have the eggs, and they could hatch!"

He finally said go talk to "Bea".... (his old wife)..... So I did! I said "Why don't you leave the eggs so they will hatch?" And she said they don't get fertilized, because we don't have a Rooster!"

And AGAIN I re-iterated.... But you have the EGGS!

THEN Bea said the Rooster has to fertilize the hen, just like birds do! And I was sooooooooo confused. But then she said something, and all I could think of is CHICKENS DO IT?????????? They aren't like FISH, who fertilize the eggs AFTER the mother fish lays them??????

Nope! Guess they are like dogs and cats.... and that is another story.

See, next door to them, was this DOG, and another dog was there.... must have jumped their fence.... And these dogs were screaming and crying, and one was like connected to the other one, and I was trying to shoo them apart! And they wouldn't STOP!!!

So I ran in my house and called the Police.... Some smart-ass on the phone finally told me, (in between many pauses and laughter) that they were mating, and I said "No they are NOT, they are fighting and yelling and crying!"

He finally said leave them alone, they will eventually stop that..... Well, they did.... but you have to realize, I was NOT raised on a farm.... so stop laughing.

We have AAA cabin, cars and house, also kids place. They were the only company to give us earthquake on cabin and home! You have to have earthquake here, we are on the "ring of fire." Most companies won't write it. We are at 550 feet home and on a hill at the cabin, so no need for flood insurance another biggie need here in Oregon. Insurance companies look out for themselves. Yet we have been very pleased with AAA price and coverage wise and we trust our agent! Sassy you will like AAA, love that they bundle and provide discounts for good grades, drivers education etc.. we have a 19 year old student on our policy. You were lucky to get storm/ sink hole coverage!

Wren you are so right food out of the garden 100% tastier! Our spinach is up and the lettuce is too - tiny little shoots. We cheated and bought broccoli and cabbage starts..:-) Waiting for it to get warm enough for tomatoes and peppers! We have a saturday market and really should try a CSA box. I am just afraid that if there is just 2 of us we won't eat it all.

Rose, Some of the CSAs here have 1/2 boxes. Much better for fewer people.
