Hah Spookie! Good one!
A few years ago, a few gals on BC.ORG were talking about "cleansing, cupping,"and all SORTS of weird things they try to help them cure their cancer. Some might benefit by these methods, but they're not for me!
I remember my SIL had an Aunt, that refused to do ANYthing for her Breast Cancer..... thinking she could heal it by...... what-ever..... Well, you can guess the rest.... And I'm told it was not easy to watch. We have come sooooooooo far, with a lot of different treatments.... I KNOW it all depends on your age, grade, type, stage, lymph node involvement, and the size......
But to try only Holistic, treatments just doesn't make sense.....
Okay.... can you gals tell me how long you keep your boxed goods for after the "best if used by" date? Even canned goods. I know I shouldn't keep things so long, or buy MORE things, but it just seems right if it is on sale.... I just threw out 2 grocery bags of "stuff!" My DH took away ANOTHER bag of boxed cake/cookie mixes.... Some were just gross.... I have to do better with that stuff.....
-
Oh that's fun Spookie. Thanks for reposting.
Beach- LOL, yes, my friend who raves about the hose in the butt has lots of health issues that are not readily addressed by a colon cleanse. I agree with you about being poked and prodded, never mind cut on several times, irradiated, and medicated too!
BC has been no different for me than many other hard things in life from loosing a job, changing careers, death of a family member, elder care, starting and running a business, etc. The people who have most to say about things have never gone through any of what they seem to know so much about!
It is very true that the people that help you most through BC have either had cancer themselves or have helped someone else go through it. That has been my experience for sure!
-
CHEVY, depends on what it is, and the date. If not in fridge and only a month or two, I'd probably use it. I try to watch that, but stuff in the fridge gets overlooked, frequently. I just pitched a bunch of BBQ bottles, waaaay out of date!!
-
This is for all those well meaning people who like to give us advice! LOL!

-
I've been lucky, haven't had anyone say anything stupid to me. Patty, glad you're feeling a little better. Sleep is a good thing. Did they ever figure what's wrong?
Here's the table topper, mostly done, have to some light quilting on it. I don't know why the pic shows so much blue, it's not really. For girlfriend BD next week
l -
I stopped listening to people who were so phony after going through chemo. Just didn't have the time or energy to waste on people who thought they knew better than the doctors on how to fight this crap!
-
Jazzygirl, love the funny! But a good thing I guess, their village has been calling for them..................
-
Smaarty, beautiful table topper. I love the yellow fabric, you create beautiful pieces.
Chevy, I am freaky when it comes to code dates. Milk, bread, eggs, sour cream & tortillas are checked frequently. Can foods are gone within a few months of purchase. I do not buy in bulk. I actually like to grocery shop, almost daily. Like Europeans, buy fresh veggies every day, or every other day. I cook fresh, no frozen food, except ice cream. Love fresh broccoli & mushrooms. I can zip in & out in 10-15 minutes. 2-4 minute drive. Should ride my bike, but dangerous roads, no bike paths.
MammaRay, bugs me thinking some self centered idiot, moron, would suggest anything to you about self destructive behavior. Before, after, during, whatever !!!!!. Hard to comprehend how people can be so callous & cruel. You have proven yourself, tough as nails.
Blondie, hello......& all INSOMNIACS.......
MADDY, sending hugs & positive wishes....

Funny I lived in Switzerland in 1977 for 4 months. They have tiny little college sized frigs. There were charming vegetable trucks that went up and down the street, folks would pop out and buy what they needed. I remember folks, even old people on mopeds with 2 metal baskets on the back with a bag of groceries and french bread poking out. It is nice to buy fresh and just make what you intend to eat that day. Their shopping styles are wildly different from ours. I do like the convenience of a freezer in the garage.. stock up on sales and freeze bread. We do waste some that way for sure. Europeans would never understand the concept of Costco... frankly now the kids are out, college etc.. if it wasn't for the pet foods and hearing aides, I could give up our membership. The qty of food is too much for just 3 people. I think we eat too much because we buy too much!
I wish all of you that can't sleep- peace and a good book. Everyone that needs a (((((hugs))))) that's for you. Be well.

Teka sent me this! I LOVE it!
Those damn chickens! I have come to the conclusion they are not the same as puppies or kittens... they grow up to be BIG little noisy girls, who break their own eggs, poop over everything, even their water can, and just make a mess....... I have special chicken crocs just for when I have to take care of them.
And you would THINK I would get a "thank you" from their MOTHER!

HiHo! Would you please keep hammering it in my head about being more vigilant about my stocking up on food? Okay, today I'll go through the cupboard AGAIN, and check the packaged dinners. And yes the jars of "stuff".... My Mom did this... So did my Grandma...
I think I always remember when we had nothing... and our food was rationed... And we ate everything we bought. I hate to throw away left-overs even. So I have to get rid of this "stuff" I am saving in case we see a catastrophe... Ha!
Rosie.... that's true! Wish you could come here and help me do this... You would say.... 'ARE YOU NUTS?" What are you THINKing girl? You are going to get poisoned! Take those chickens some of this stuff! Ha!

Chevy- my parents were Depression era babies. My mother came from a well to do family so they did not struggle through that time, but my father came from a very poor community and when the Great Depression came, It was bad.
Fast forward to the 1960s to 70's as I was growing up. My mother had canned food upstairs, but sometime during my childhood, my father started creating a HUGE pantry downstairs where he stocked many canned supplies. Waiting for the next Depression he was sure would come. Food we never did eat. We had to clean out all that old food at one point. I think once you have gone through that or anything else where there was not enough food, it is a nature thing to stock lots food.
My version is more like "what if I get sick and cannot get to the store?" Living alone makes one keep storage on hand too. I like to keep enough in the pantry and freezer for those times when I need food but something interferes with me getting out to shop.

Tweedle and Dee, the city slickers.
DH and his buddy B are renovating a mobile home. B calls DH and says a rooster was trapped in the enclosed car port, but chased him out. DH goes over the next day, rooster is back, chases it out.
Same thing next day, except DH finds a nest with 2 eggs in it.
They are both amazed a rooster could lay eggs!!!!!!!
There's your laugh for the week.
-
Susan good idea.. care packages like you send college kids! Blondie Pm address. Love the rooster story.

Spookie tee hee -
Spookie, Very funny!!
We don't have enough storage space to stock up. DS said all we have is spices and he's right. Last night I made curry and we had everything I needed. We should have a little more on hand in case of earthquake, but we eat mostly fresh food. There's a farmer's market on Sunday and a little fruit & veg store about 6 blocks away that has great prices. We buy canned tuna from one of the fishing boats. They line catch and test for mercury. When you open the can there's a big chunk of tuna, not flakes. We're starting to get salad greens from the little planter on our deck. They taste so different from store greens.

Insurance update: I chose AAA for auto and home. I have no toys i.e boats, motorcycle etc. Initial quote 4100+ without all the discounts. I provided all the documentation to obtain discounts, and I installed a new garage door Miami-Dade rated@ 2010(2012) standard. Final premium price is 3055$. That includes auto, home, hurricane rider, and sinkhole rider. May seem high to some low to others. For Florida this is stellar. It's hard to believe. Some may remember I had a claim with Harford. It didn't go well. I was going through lot's of thyroid stuff. My goal was to find a company that was going to stand behind their product. AAA has a wonderful reputation. Retrospectively, I'm happy to have found out that Hartford wasn't trustworthy based on a relatively small claim, but big to me. I learned allot about the insurance industry as a result. I feel I'm better protected now. Nice feeling

Well, if you think THAT is bad..... When I was just married, the Land-lord had Chickens.... They kept laying eggs, and I asked Estel, the man, "Why don't you just leave the eggs there, to give them time to hatch?" ... He said "We don't have a Rooster...they are HENS!" And I said " Yes, I know, but you still have the eggs, and they could hatch!"
He finally said go talk to "Bea".... (his old wife)..... So I did! I said "Why don't you leave the eggs so they will hatch?" And she said they don't get fertilized, because we don't have a Rooster!"
And AGAIN I re-iterated.... But you have the EGGS!
THEN Bea said the Rooster has to fertilize the hen, just like birds do! And I was sooooooooo confused. But then she said something, and all I could think of is CHICKENS DO IT?????????? They aren't like FISH, who fertilize the eggs AFTER the mother fish lays them??????
Nope! Guess they are like dogs and cats.... and that is another story.
See, next door to them, was this DOG, and another dog was there.... must have jumped their fence.... And these dogs were screaming and crying, and one was like connected to the other one, and I was trying to shoo them apart! And they wouldn't STOP!!!
So I ran in my house and called the Police.... Some smart-ass on the phone finally told me, (in between many pauses and laughter) that they were mating, and I said "No they are NOT, they are fighting and yelling and crying!"
He finally said leave them alone, they will eventually stop that..... Well, they did.... but you have to realize, I was NOT raised on a farm.... so stop laughing.

so this is the beginnings. 2-1/2 down after a stop and start. Started the middle but forgot the ruler I need. I'm doing it in blues and cream instead of reds. Once I have this done I can turn it into the table runner like the b/w one. This will be the center square.

Found this on line somewhere and liked the look.Hope everyone is doing fine. I'd also help Blondie, let us know. Actually, anyone on IT that's having $$ difficulties, I wouldn't mind helping. Couldn't do it years ago but now, can help. Hope this isn't against any rules on bco

We have AAA cabin, cars and house, also kids place. They were the only company to give us earthquake on cabin and home! You have to have earthquake here, we are on the "ring of fire." Most companies won't write it. We are at 550 feet home and on a hill at the cabin, so no need for flood insurance another biggie need here in Oregon. Insurance companies look out for themselves. Yet we have been very pleased with AAA price and coverage wise and we trust our agent! Sassy you will like AAA, love that they bundle and provide discounts for good grades, drivers education etc.. we have a 19 year old student on our policy. You were lucky to get storm/ sink hole coverage!
Wren you are so right food out of the garden 100% tastier! Our spinach is up and the lettuce is too - tiny little shoots. We cheated and bought broccoli and cabbage starts..:-) Waiting for it to get warm enough for tomatoes and peppers! We have a saturday market and really should try a CSA box. I am just afraid that if there is just 2 of us we won't eat it all.
Smarty- love the design. Count me in on helping Blondie.

-
Rose, Some of the CSAs here have 1/2 boxes. Much better for fewer people.
-
Patty- hospitals are places where you don't sleep too well. You get a couple good nights of sleep and you will feel better.
Favorite FB photo of the day.

-
Your son is a cutie!! Your legs aren't used to that much/type of Excercise. More power to you!!!!!! I couldn't do it.
-
Hey, Patty --sleep OH wonderful sleep. Hope the sore throat is better.
Rosie, I feel really good about AAA. Their process is more thorough. Outside home inspection, recognition that I have flood insurance--not required, but I've done it for 16-17 years. Wish I wasn't subsidizing those that don't---the NFIP is rectifying that, but all the details will take awhile to work out. High risk properties will be paying more. The new garage door was well worth it. Between credit card reward points and insurance reduction, it'll pay for itself in 4 years. Building inspector says it's wind rated up to 200 mph( company says 150). After Andrew, Florida standards have always followed Miami - Dade county building code standards. In the analysis, I read umpteen years ago. The #1 failure was the garage door. Once that went the house was pretty much toast. This is the second time I've done the door(1999). Standards have changed 4 x's since I did my door. This IS the #1 rated door --exceeds M/D standards. LOL, CHIT, I don't remember what the #2 failure was, OH Forklift. But I have hurricane shutters, concrete block----------oh yeah, concrete versus frame was biggy ---that's why we bought concrete. The one thing I can't fix is the roof. Too many gables. A Hip roof is the winner on wind resistance---think that was #2.
Little remembered fact about that time, Habitat for Humanity houses survived when other houses didn't. HfH house construction was studied extensively after that.
AAA writes there for earthquake when others don't. Interesting. Here they'll write for Hurricane. Wondering?
Chevy, you are the funniest. I'm sure those folks told that story for years. The first time I saw dogs mating-Scared the bejeebers out of me, but no one tried to explain---we were Catholics----no one talked of such things. Maybe that's why there were such HUGE familes. I have 63 first cousins. It was great fun growing up with all those cousins.
Jazz --great pic
