As it turns out, I kinda like going flat

Thanks Ariom. Very helpful. I am so concerned that I still cannot deal without the pain meds, and it's been such a long time. I am responsible. I am not addicted. But I can tell my body is becoming tolerant..my MO office, as opposed to my surgeon, has been very supportive. The surgeon was dismissive. I was mad when I had to go back to him for the port. But the pickins' are slim in these here woods and the show had to go on. If I ever do do have revision, guaranteed it wont be him

Katy, you sound like me now!!!! Ariom and Glennie helped me so much with my decision to wait. I have the same problem in that my BS thought I wanted reconstruction so she did not make me flat and when I went back to her after radiation to have it done, she told me no. Then she sent me to a PS that didn't do the "flat look". To say the least, I was not happy with her and will not be going back to her. Take your time and let your body heal for awhile and then find a PS that will do what you want done. I have decided to wait at least a year and enjoy my life this year and maybe next year do the revision.

Thanks NoMatterWhat- I will definitely have to wait until well after chemo when I am feeling strong and fit again. I guess by then I'll probably have been in and out of drug rehab, jk. But seriously, it would be nice to do at the end of 2015 while I'm in catastrophic insurance zone, but regardless of the financial issue, I won't do anything UNTIL I am good and ready. And that means my body as well as my brain. Thanks for the support!

So wonderful! I was also size d, but I am petit. Now being flat chested I feel comfortable. Decided not to go for reconstruction. I am still working , so will wear the prothestic while going to work or on special occasion. I am flat at home and feel comfortable. i hope we flat chested women can go out without feeling nervous without the boobies!

I deconstructed on April 9th this year and although I have very straight thin scars, I have two ridges of flesh under the scars that most likely will remain due to the alloderm used in the initial reconstruction. The original PS used it, as he said he would but the second PS said it was so incorporated into my own flesh it would have been a mess to remove it. I trust his judgement, I guess but I never heard of anyone else having residual horizontal bumps from alloderm. I'm going to live with it since I don't want surgery #6 to fix.

not sure on your terminology but I have a very. Unsightly scar from my BS and to me its ugly but I have been drained three times and I have two mini boobs in the center of my chest that I feel unsightly and since I was extremely large prior it makes me feel as though I should reconstruct? I was a double e and hated that, i had original dbl mx in January, so I have only wore a camisole occasionally, have not gotten fitted properly for special occasions. I am unhappy with this scar but maybe it's still too new of a nightmare.

Jersey, when was surgery?
Alloderm is cadaver skin used often to form a sort of pocket to aid in holding the implant in place. It's placed at the bottom of the implant and cradles it in place. If that makes sense.

Amy, surgery January of 2015. Cadaver skin not appealing with them leaning toward genetics for future Dx, I am not taking on someone else's issues. Sounds harsh but I know people who have gotten aides thru someone else's tissue. Won't go there. Maybe prosthesis will hide bumps. Still all to new for me. But thanks for info.
