Thanks, Leggo. That actually sounds really good, except for the Matcha tea part, LOL.

Penzance, thanx so much about the magnesium suggestion! I talked to my GP about all the lower GI issues and while she understands it's a nuisance she says it's likely a combo of nerves and the cancer itself causing it and I guess it's something I have to live with but if I could still take mag it'd be fabulous!

My BFF drinks Wheatgrass all day long which *does* taste like the wet mushy grass clippings that come out the back of the lawnmower. She also drinks Maca tea and says it tastes the same.

Penzance I've been saying it forever that one day when we're born we'll be placed in some machine that will analyze the person and then they'll get their "life guide." It'll be different for everyone because we're sensitive to different things.

Wouldn't it be great knowing in advance the things we should eat/take and what things we shouldn't?

Sugar is the big enemy now but in the 90s it was fat, and it'll be something else years from now. I made green tea yesterday and I swear I don't know how anyone drinks plain tea of any kind. It just tastes like hot sour water yuck! I added 2 packs of Splenda which made it barely tolerable and I was able to drink it as long as I focus on another task other than drinking.

labelle I'm a real tea granny so when my son saw this tea in a store that actually came with a whisk he bought it for me for Christmas and I have been having it each morning first thing ever since. This was a first harvest, ceremonial grade, shade grown green Matcha from Japan and does not taste like grass clippings, or at least not very much IMO, but it is more expensive then the cheap Matcha from China. I just add about 3/4 tsp to about only a half a cup of not quite boiling water, give it a whisk to add a bit of froth and sip it down. This is called a 'thick' cup of matcha, and is in no way like the green matcha latte from Starbucks that I tried and couldn't finish.

I see two terms going around : matcha tea and maca tea. My friend drinks maca and says it's nasty. I've never heard of matcha but if it's better I'll try anything but only if it tastes nice.

Question about beets: hubby said he heard an ad on the radio for a supplement called Super Beet that (purports) to have the benefits of beets without the taste.

I know most advertised things are crap (Macafem comes to mind) but has anyone tried it?

Maca is a root vegetable, ground up and sometimes used to make a "tea". Matcha IS actually tea, from the same plant as all white, green and black teas.

Stress totally constipates me. In fact, just about everything does. I have tried just about everything but the only thing that finally worked for me was a prescription med called Linzess and one daily dose of Miralax. I know many people don't like to take prescription meds and want to do it naturally but I just couldn't take it anymore so I finally caved. I have never taken any meds regularly but I was beyond miserable. So if you have tried everything like I did, you might consider it. The Linzess doesn't work without the Miralax and Miralax alone doesn't do it. The doctor said these two don't damage your colon like traditional laxatives do.

I love matcha tea! I drink 2 cups every morning and would drink more but then I get the caffeine shakes. Who would have thought I like green grass clippings, ha! I froth mine up with some organic milk and use honey or agave syrup.

Hey Kat, my friend who drinks the Wheatgrass and the maca tea says she likes the taste of grass but everyone thinks she's weird lol! So you aren't alone!

Gosh constipation isn't my issue. I'm the opposite. ..since July. Saw my pcp yesterday and she said it's likely anxiety and cancer working together.

I'm mildly queasy most times and she gave me the same reason. Makes it hard to take my supps tho. Sometimes they come back up.

Have you tried magnesium for constipation? I realize that sometimes it has to be prescription. I'm glad you've found some relief.

Pipers: the olive oil leaves and Oleuropein, are they taken together or separate? I am Italian, so I've consumed olive oil as long as I can remember. It was probably in my baby bottle! I'd like to look into it more

Yoga-girl, thanks for that. We are planning a Med cruise next year, and my goodness when we travel my system comes to a complete halt. Will be sure to take along some good Vit C.

Has anyone else seen the latest about salt? The article I read claims that processed salt "table salt" is the root of all evil. Somehow causes a change to our DNA which results in the epidemic of autoimmune diseases. There's a ton of it in fast and processed food, especially the bread! Maybe that's the problem more than the gluten, who knows. Anyway, sea salt is good, processed salt bad. Gets harder to eat out all the time.

    Spirulina

    Immune Support

    Protein Supplement

Source: Spirulina | University of Maryland Medical Center http://umm.edu/health/medical/altmed/supplement/spirulina#ixzz3UgM6uE4h

Spirulina is a type of blue-green algae that is rich in protein, vitamins, minerals, and carotenoids, antioxidants that can help protect cells from damage. It contains nutrients, including B complex vitamins, beta-carotene, vitamin E, manganese, zinc, copper, iron, selenium, and gamma linolenic acid (an essential fatty acid).

Spirulina -- like any blue-green algae -- can be contaminated with toxic substances called microcystins. It can also absorb heavy metals from the water where it is grown. For these reasons, it is important to buy spirulina from a trusted brand. Organic is best.

HomeMom, I take the two separately. I eat olive oil for the flavor in my food and take OLE for medicine. The brand I buy is a liquid. I can't tell yet if it's doing anything.

To everyone who thinks green tea tastes bad, be careful not to oversteep! Get the tea bag or leaves out of the water after 5 minutes. After that it starts to get bitter. Also its better not to use boiling water, but water that's cooled off slightly from the boiling point.

I have a question about the curcumin I take every day. I take it in capsule form, and my first bottle had the black pepper in it, as I heard you needed it in there (forgot why). Later, I read that you didn't need the black pepper in it. Just wanted to know what others think about that. I also heard you should/or could take it up to about three times daily (my capsules are 1200 mg). What can anyone tell me regarding this or direct me to more information on it? Thanks. Ann

I take the Gaia brand Turmeric with my naturalist doc's recommendation. It's 550mg capsules. He swears this is the best brand and told me to take up to 3 caps a day. I started with one and it solved my joint/muscle pain problem so I've kept it at that dose. He said to be sure I took a brand with the black pepper in it as it activates the turmeric properly.

Has anyone ever taken iCool or Peridin-C for hot flashes? My MO says those are the only 2 things he will allow me to take other than a prescription (I think Efflexor?) and I don't want another prescription drug. Tamoxifen is bad enough. I can't find much info on Peridin-C and iCool SEs say severe weight gain can be a problem. Don't want that to happen as that increases cancer risk.

Also, anyone tried Ashwagandha? My naturalist doc suggested trying that instead of the Peridin-C or iCool for night sweats. He figures maybe it will help me just sleep through them.

    Anyone tried any of these?

Fourminor--I have been taking SloMag since about a year after my diagnosis. It really helped with getting me regular. Now that I've gone through the hysterectomy and ovary removal I upped my dose from 2 tabs to 4, and found my hot flashes have gone from 6 or 7 a night to 2 or 3 and they aren't as long and intense. I originally upped my dose to get my bowels regular again after surgery. Had no idea that might be what is helping my hot flashes!! Thank you for the info!! I will say that even at 4 tabs that is only 300mg a day. Wonder if it would hurt to up it again. Can you take too much magnesium?

while it doesn't surprise me that fish would be beneficial, I am confused about PUFAs -- specifically, it's my understanding that seed oils (canola, sunflower, safflower, etc) should be avoided because the PUFAs present in them are said to promote inflammation?

I am taking 500 mg just because that's what they had at the drug store and I take it before bed with my vitamin D. I sleep better than I have in years and hot flashes went from hourly to 4-5 a day.
