Ruth we had a whole weekend of plans, birthday party this afternoon, tomorrow afternoon I have tickets for a musical at the OC Performing Arts Center and tomorrow night we have tickets for Soka University, there is a performing arts school in south county and they perform opera pieces, he absolutely love opera and really looks forward to it as the kids are fabulous and the hall at Soka was designed by the same architect who designed the Disney theatre in downtowm LA so it is a wonderful experience so now I'm scurrying trying to find some to go with me instead as he is confined to the recliner.
Cassie as meljo says, this too shall pass it's hard to do but you have the foundation laid and as your tiredness slowly passes you will fall back into exercise. LB it's always the way with the eclipse, they talk it up a storm and then boom cloud cover but at least you got to see some of it.
Did Body Combat this morning then went for a pedicure, going to see my bestie from Tennessee this afternoon as she is out here on business so she's coming to the party I'm going to, excited to hang out with her even if it is only for a few hours.

This was my birthday week so I have been celebrating for several days - food wise, and had some exerciseless days. Since last reporting in I did a 21 minute walk yesterday and then this morning walked with my son and dog for 23 minutes. Then I had another birthday lunch, so I decided I HAVE to get out and do more exercise. I have eaten so much and didn't get my 150 minutes this week,so I did go out in the brisk wind and forced myself to walk for 38 more minutes. That brought me up to 143 minutes for the week so I almost made it! .
Welcome to the Newbies! Do what you can until you can do more, then when we know you can do more, we'll give you a kick in the pants! I found if I didn't feel like doing much, I would promise myself I'd do a little, maybe a 10 minute walk. Sometimes you then feel like doing more, but if not, stop. I couldn't walk up a full flight of stairs without stopping or do a 15 minute walk after chemo.
Meijo I recognized Milwaukee in your run picture. I am north of Chicago so I recognized the museum (I think) in the background.
Enjoy your travels, Ladies. I highly recommend it as it seems I am always refreshed and forget about cancer and worry after a vacation. I went right after rads and it was the best idea ever! Claire, is your friend moving to Cabo? . .
-
hi all and welcome Sandie, Missy & Meljo. I'm in SW WI but recognized the Milw Art Museum.
Mary, congrats, great news on the house!
Happy Birthday TwoHobbies!
This week flew by! Walked every day after work except Fri as had supper with mom then watched Badger basketball. Today walked to library & grocery store, it's such a pretty day I unpacked and went back out to walk just for the pleasure of it. Posting 5.5 hours and 18.5 miles for the week.
Signed up for my first 5k of the year, a Bunny Hop fun run/walk.
Took my last tamox today; will take first Arimidex tomorrow.
Finally seeing green shoots in the flowerbeds but with snow predicted for Sun/Mon I'm going to let it be. ♥
-
Badger and Twohobbies, yes that is the Milwaukee Art Museum in the background of my photo. The Susan G. is always run on the Milwaukee lakefront. It is a really cool venue. Missed it last year when I had to travel for work. This year will be especially meaningful.
-
Thanks for the encouragement.

TwoHobbies, happy birthday!
Today a friend walked to and from coffee with me, so maybe a mile or so, possibly a little further.
-
Happy Birthday TH!!! Sounds like you've really been celebrating.
Cassie: Half way through rads I was dragging. No energy, long naps, no exercise. Take care of yourself and as Meljo said, this to shall pass.
Meljo: Enjoy your prime rib!
Badger: I was really scared when I switched from Tamox to Arimidex. That being said, I was glad to get off of tamox. Good luck with Arim!
Cheryl: Sorry your guest is so ill! Hope he starts improving soon. Have fun with your friend!
Hi All. Dh and I spread 60 bales of pine straw around the yard today. I'm sore and tired!
-
Happy birthday Twohobbies!
Badger, I hope the Arimidex is kind to you.
My exercise today was lots of walking while running errands and completing outdoor household chores. Racked up over 14,000 steps today. Hoping our beautiful weather holds as I am planning to go jogging with a friend tomorrow.
-
I had a work-related funeral to attend today. Planned a ride prior to, but since pouring down rain, downsized to a 5k run. Sun was out by then, but was windy so glad I got in a run as opposed to facing a headwind. Frogs were singing in Kari's Bog.
Later on, got in another mile or so of walking, digging dandelions, and then a trip to the supermarket for ingredients to make the wonderful dish I discovered recently. Nap in between. Just needed time to chill.
Hoping to get into Seattle tomorrow and view the 1900 decorative arts show which will include works from their permanent collection. I think one of the best anywhere. I may stop by the Sorrento Hotel for a spot of something. Gorgeous place from La Belle Epoque.
Ready for dinner now, and then ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But before that, I just may expire from the heavenly scent of SLOW FOOD around here. - Claire
-
Happy Birthday TwoHobbies.
No formal exercise for me today and barely took a walk. I am like Cassie RADs has slowed me down. But did get a little bit of a walk in today.
-
Happy Birthday TwoHobbies.
Did Body Pump this morning - trying to work off some of the "Death by Chocolate" cake I ate yesterday

-
Cheryl: You make me want to eat some chocolate!
Happy Sunday All!
Just returned from my walk/run. Getting ready to go out to eat with dh's side of the family. On Thursday we met with my side of the family to celebrate my brother's bday. It 's been a good week for family!
-
The family and I took our dog for a walk and got in about 1 2/3 miles I think. Nice to be able to go out all together.

-
Hi all - not much exercise this week but I have a question. Anyone have a good suggestion for a C25K app for my iphone 6? I'm a real techno-idiot and have no idea how to go about finding something I think I'll like. I want to be able to be hands-free with /someone/something telling me 'time to walk now', 'time to run now', and preferably be able to listen to my current favorite walk/run tunes (which are on my ipod). Is there such an app? I feel like such an idiot when it comes to this stuff!
-
Happy Birthday, TwoHobbies!!!!
-
Sweetsandspecial,I've used C25K (free) and it might do everything you're looking for!
-
Happy Birthday, TwoHobbies!! Have a fabulous day!!!
Did a 3 mile walk yesterday and a mile today!!
Happy Sunday Everyone!!!
-
Well ladies, I've decided to try this thread again now that I'm exercising more now. I managed to gain 17, yes 17, lbs last summer during treatment. So far I've taken 6 back off. I'm starting Exemestane in a few weeks so I feel like I need to hurry up and lose more before it gets even harder.
Today I ran/walked 3.9 miles in an hour. I'm jealous of all the warm temps!
-
Thanks for the birthday wishes, everyone! I'm thinking I might have to fast to get rid of all these calories, but I'm afraid my poor body will be so used to the constant stream of food that it will not know how to summon my fat stores!
Sweet I will be interested to see if someone has a good suggestion for an couch to 5 k app as I would like to try one too!
-
hi all and welcome back, Mommato3.
Did 20 mins AM yoga and walked 30 mins this morning. Glad I got out early, it started snowing around noon. We got maybe three inches but may get three more overnight plus freezing drizzle tomorrow making for a slick commute. I planned ahead and brought work home so it's not the end of the world if I can't get to the office tomorrow.
-
Mommato- welcome to the thread. It is harder to loose weight on the AIs, but good you are exercising and taking some of the pounds that got attracted to you during chemo off now. Just keep moving. That is what this thread is about.
3/22- lots of house and yard work today, but did stop and do a 40 min weight work out at the gym. Pool was closed/broken today so that was not an option in the end. Already close to 11K steps for today!
I will be off line for a week as I am going on a little vaca. But don't worry, I plan to be exercising during my time away. I am going to be visiting my sister, whom is also a gym rat like me and we will be going there a couple times during my visit to the west coast, so I can keep up with my weight work outs.
Will see you back here again soon!
-
And for those of you who work in the yard and garden as the weather warms up, you might be interested to see how those gardening tools help you to stay fit!

-
Aha! Have fun, Jazzy.
Welcome back, mommato! I have been doing loseit.com religiously for the last couple weeks (since my pants have been telling me that I have been celebrating various occasions since December a little too much!) & that really helps me to be accountable with the calories.
I had a 'catch up on everything day' today; no formal exercise but lots of lugging groceries to and from the car and up the stairs, laundry down to the washer & then back up the stairs, floor scrubbing, kitchen & bathroom cleaning, and other yucky things of that order. Right now, I am taking a break from a stack of letters and bills.
-
may I join you ladies? I am trying to recover from a bmx enough to start chemo in ten days. I used to be really active but have been practically a prisoner due to weakness from a post surgical bleed out last week. I'm just wondering what to expect through chemo and the continued healing process. It seems so far like cancer is easy but the treatments are hell! I am so glad to read all your inspiring and honest posts!
-
Absolutely join us, littleblue!!! We are very glad you found us. Everyone who does chemo has a different experience, so you will just have to follow your body. People's experience with it will vary from it didn't slow them down much at all, to that it knocked them out completely. Most people fall somewhere it between. For me, some days (like the first couple after infusions), I'd just put on my tennis shoes and walk around & around the living room. Later on in the cycle, I could go for a good brisk walk. I did some light toning all the way through....(not the arms until I was cleared by the surgeon, of course) but lots of legs & abs. Whatever you are able to do during chemo will help you bounce back faster once you are done.
-
Sweet and TwoHobbies- I used a free app 5k101 running mate. This is the link
http://myrunningmate.com/5k101/
It worked great for me. I had never been a runner and at the end of 8 weeks, I could run a 5k. The guy tells you when to walk and when to run, you can sync it to your iTunes to listen to music and it builds up gradually so it was very do-able. Good luck!
-
Welcome littleblue! Exercise today was a 3-mile run, some upper body work with weights, a few minutes of Pilates, and of course a long walk with Cali (my dog).
-
This was just posted on the Complimentary Medicine Forum under the heading of 'Another Study Backs Exercise'........littleblue, I thought of you:
http://www.latimes.com/science/sciencenow/la-sci-s...
"New research conducted on mice finds that a body that gets regular physical activity is a more hostile environment for cancer's growth in breast tissue than is a sedentary body. And once breast cancer has gained a foothold, regular aerobic exercise makes a tumor more vulnerable to the effects of chemotherapy."
-
no formal exercise today, but did do laundry, shopping for a few things needed around the house. Parked as far away from the doors of the stores as possible -- lol. Walked up and down my stairs as much as possible today. Now relaxing and letting my RADs burns get a break.
I told my husband a few weeks ago my goal is to get into a 5K run within the year. Does that sound aggressive. I have not run in years. I will check out the app Ginger.
Welcome littleblue I am relatively new here too and just staying on point to post motivates me to do something every day. I am a long way away from pre-dx but wanted to make progress to getting back to that point.
-
Did a 5k run yesterday, then bussed it into Seattle. Since the bus stop was no where near the Frye Museum, got in at least 2 more miles of walking. Loved the decorative arts show 1895-1900. Featured drawings for interior design, primarily Germany. Also prints from that era. Gorgeous work. They had one "room" set up as well.
It was fun exploring that area of Seattle by foot too. I don't know it well at all. I was planning on a stop at the Sorrento Hotel afterwards for either tea or wine in their Fireside Room....just the most gorgeous place...but it was closed for renovations. Another day.
I went to the Nordstrom flagship which is also being renovated. I can't wait for this to be done, and suspect will be just gorgeous when finished. I got a Chanel shadow duo with a gift certificate I have, and then looked at the high end fashion. Felt like I was in time warp. Now exactly WHICH decade are we in? Conclusion is that better and much cheaper on eBay. Napped on the bus back to Redmond.
Wonderful to feel rested and exercised. Training starts next week. Promise. - Claire
-
ladyb, I think a 5K is very doable. My only advice is to not push yourself too hard until you are fully recovered from rads. I was very stubborn and determined to continue my normal exercise routine through rads. Even though I was fatigued, I forced myself to run. I got very run down and caught a horrible virus (mentioned in one of my earlier posts). I ended up really sick and miserable for two weeks. Try to be patient and start slow. You will have that 5K under your belt in no time!
Claire, sounds like you had a lovely Sunday in Seattle. I've heard it is a beautiful city. Would love to get there one day.
Happy Monday All!
