loulee..did you get clarification on your pathology ??

Robin: Yay !!! Have a good visit with your daughter.really something to celebrate!!

My pain has improved. Still take Tylenol and ibuprofen during day. And an ativan at night..I feel like my posture has gone to crap...i find I have to really be mindful to sit straight and keep shoulders back. Weather has been warmish last couple days so was able to go for walk..My mom had to push baby carriage I tried and quickly realized it was not gonna work.

congrats Robin! And AudreyB glad to hear from you post SNB.

Jabec- i am in the same boat- first week of June or wait until Sept for exchange, absolutely cannot due July or August.

A couple milestones at 3 1/2 weeks- I stopped Aleve/Tylenol on Tuesday and haven't needed it since. Finally got to the Y for a couple of light workouts- recumbent bike and treadmill, felt great. Range of motion is getting there, I'm about 3 inches short on my upward arm stretches.

The tight pulling has finally let up some and I'm feeling pretty good. Quite a bit of scabbing came off today. I have my second fill Friday and I can't wait to be bigger, even if the soreness returns.

Anyone using any creams or massage on incisions/scars yet? I saw bio oil mentioned on the boards and bought some but have not begun using it yet

Lourlee - congrats on the clean margins!

AudreyB - so happy for your clean nodes! I hope your pain is better. Good luck on your upcoming radiation consult.

Welcome Shoppingmom. I hope you are feeling better!

Congrats Robin on the no further treatment! And prayers for your continued healing. Also happy for your upcoming visit with your daughter. I saw my daughter and grandchildren a couple of weeks ago but was still in a good bit of pain and kind of out of it. Thank goodness they know that mimi is hurting right now and they are gentle with me. My grandchildren are 3 and 4.

jabec so glad your fill did not hurt. I go for my second one in the morning.

Nurseshark - I am with you on the posture business! I really notice it when someone makes me laugh and I have to make sure I am up straight and have plenty of room in between my stomach and chest so it doesn't hurt as bad.

JustAJennifer - I know it must feel great to work out again. I am going to try and get some walking in tomorrow. I did walk some last night at wal-mart (bad weather here) but it doesn't take long at all for me to be out of breath and ready to crash.

Hope everybody is having a peaceful painless day!

    Good Morning February Surgery Sisters,

Loulee, please keep us udated  on what your dr says is your next step.

You have people here who care and are praying for you.

Audreyb, Congrats on the clean nodes!

Shoppingmommy, Hope you are doing well. Are those drains coming out yet?

Jabce, When were you able to drive again, or can you yet?

Nurseshark, Funny I just saw yesterday that My posture is not straight! I don't like that! I have to pay attention to holding my back up and shoulders straight. I am now on Ativan and Motrin.

JustAJennifer, I can't wait to start my yoga again, I was told I have to wait 8 weeks.

Sunseta1969, I am tired after 5 or 10 minutes of anything.

    Have a great day ladies!

    Love Robin

Good Morning (and a snowy one for those of us on the east coast).

Robin, I drove 10 days after surgery because I had to pick my daughter up from school. I drove her to school that morning with my husband in the car, just in case I couldn't do it and had to pull over. It wasn't too bad, but pushing in my seatbelt and then pushing the button to unbuckle was a little challenging. I also could only do short arm movements to turn the wheel. For the next week, I only drove short distances when i had to. I have been driving my kids around, etc fully since 3 weeks after surgery. I can now pretty much make full arm movements to turn the steering wheel and it doesn't hurt anymore to open/close the door, buckle/unbuckle the seat belt, etc. I do still feel like I'm a little limited in turning around to look behind me, so I haven't driven any real distances yet.

Regarding ROM, my PS did not give me exercises and I thought I was doing really well with it ROM. I ended up going on the internet to find stretches to do and one is to lie flat on your back on the floor, put your hands behind your head and then gradually try to get your elbows down to the floor. As soon as I tried to lie down I felt pain and incredible stretching just under by breasts. I had no idea it was still so tight there! I've been stretching and now can lie down with minimal pain, but still cannot put my hands behind my head while lying down (i can totally put them behind my head standing up though). I realized that I have been hunching my shoulders forward and am now consciously trying to put my shoulders back to stretch that chest area. I just got a prescription from my PS for PT because I asked for it. I'm hoping I will start soon and that it will help.

    Have a great day everyone!

Hallelujah, the drains are out. I keep the binder another week. I got a brief look at the scars and they seem tidy and unremarkable--what a relief! Released to lift "slightly more than 0 pounds" but not to be doing exercises until after consult on the 20th. Onco appointment this afternoon.

I got one of the drains removed yesterday. Yay! The PS removed all of the bandages and I was sitting in front of the mirror. It was sad :'( but I still feel like these TEs are huge! The PS said there is still a lot of swelling, but I feel like they are D's. (I was a B cup). And I still feel like they are pushed outward toward my armpits. Can anyone give me insight

    Snowy day here in NY!!!

Trying to keep updated on everyone.

    Welcome katesmom97, novna70 and shoppingmommy24

Thank you Jean and dancingdiva for the exercise info

Robin such fantastic news. Now rest, recover and enjoy your daughter's visit.

Shelly74 and ksusan so very sorry to hear. Special prayers being sent to you both.

Justajennifer My ps also said I could ditch the bra for sleeping

Justamy CONGRATULATIONS!!!! The best of news for you!!!

    Congrats Jean and Audrey

Loulee pathology reports are so confusing

Nurseshank happy to hear your pain is subsiding and you are feeling better

Sunseta1969 I had 200cc my first fill after surgery. To me it feels like an inflated tire tube wrapped around my chest

As for me, I went to the ps yesterday. My left foob, the troublemaker, is infected so I had a fill free week. He was all set up to do another 200cc. Does 200cc per fill sound excessive?? Anyway, he put me on 2000mg of antibiotics a day along with an antibiotic cream. My lefty was previously radiated with my first bout of cancer so it is at higher risk!! Has anyone else had issues with infection with expanders?? I'm nervous!!!

As always, may the dear Lord continue to watch over and bless us all!!

    Joanne

FaithHopeCourage, how did the infection present itself? Were you aware that something was going wrong? Were you in pain? Or did the PS just notice?

Sorry, if it's a dumb question.

BB there is no such thing as a dumb question!! I had noticed some redness around my incision. I showed it to my breast surgeon on monday. She wasn't overly concerned but said to show it to my plastic surgeon the next day. The redness was a little worse the next day. When he saw it, he applied the antibiotic cream and covered with gauze. I was also having a very slight brownish oozing from incision. Just a few drops. No difference in pain although he did ask if I was in more pain.

Hi. I had SNB on Tuesday and tonight the pain is the worst it's been. Everything looks ok, no redness around stitches. My Genie bra did feel a bit tighter on left side (SNB side) so I took it off and feel some relief. Can't tell if there is swelling, breast is so misshapen from lumpectomy. I do feel a sharp pain from just left of the nipple (tumor site) to under my arm and I feel what I think is cording running along my underarm. Could this be my imagination? How long does cording take to develop. I'm feeling a hard ridge up along my outer armpit. This all sucks.

I would call the surgeon if you think something's up or are feeling pain that is unmanageable. I have had to call several times and it always helped in some way. My pain still gets the best of me some days, but I can look back and see that it has gotten a lot better. Be gentle with yourself. Hugs Amy

Has anyone else had really really painful skin in their chest? I'm not talking about where my incisions are and my expanders are not filled and are not going to be. It feels just really really sore kinda similar to a sunburn...its just really odd and it hurts a lot. Just wondering if any of you have had this after BMX.

justamy and AudreyB I was just going to add a note on the sunburn feeling. I felt that my SNB recovery was worse than MX. I had them done separately and I found the arm pain and lack of mobility to be significantly worse with the SNB. I felt a burning sensation on the underpart of my arm. It was super sensitive and any clothing or seam rubbing on it was awful. I finally figured out if I wore a soft tshirt inside out under a soft no wire bra, it did help. That feeling lasted about a week. I was 100% fine enough to run at 50 days but I was active even before that. Just remember, it's the process of healing and your body needs time to figure it all out, and you will be back to being comfortable.

thanks Jennifer. I feel a lot better this morning. After lumpectomies I would have pain jumping all around my chest. My chest would hurt in different spots throughout the day. Last night was breast and armpit. And I agree, SNB was much worse I think because it's more localized and the arm moves.

Im thinking now it's the healing process, also during my SNB surgeon removed steri strips from lumpectomy incisions so they are now newly exposed to fabric. I'm also sitting home recovering and it's all starting to hit me all over again thst I have BC. Also adjusting to scarring and breast shape. Radiation on the horizon.Sometimes it's just too much I think.

After my Axillary lymph node dissection I too have experienced first numbness then a kind of burning, stinging from my underarm to my elbow. My surgeon said that is nerve pain and it will subside gradually as damaged nerves regenerate. What you all experiencing sounds normal. Please call your doctor if you have any concerns. Surgery is scary and they expect patients to have questions. Love, Jean

    Hi Justamy...
I am three weeks today post BMX with immediate implants and I have that same sensation you are having.....Its just like a sunburn and it hurts to have anything touching it!!  My PS said it will go away and I think it has very very slightly. It is most likely caused by nerve damage during the mastectomy and he also said the implants are rubbing on those nerves, kinda like raw skin.  Does this make sense?

I also have the sunburn feeling and I had DIEP, not implants, so it must be from the nerves. I hate it

I had an expansion today, 60ccs which is their standard. I am at 330 now and still fee like I have a long way to go. Soreness is manageable.

I also took my first Tamoxifen today, after hearing the same treatment plan from my second opinion doc at MSKCC. Fingers crossed for minimal side effects!

Good luck justajennifer. I was 42 with my first bout of cancer. I started the tamoxifen. Was only able to stay on about 8 months. I started to have vaginal bleeding and thickened uterine lining. Drug just wasn't a good fit for me. The other side of the coin is if I had stuck with it would I be going through a second estrogen positive cancer??? I just don't know!! Anyway, sending you prayers and wishing you the very best!!!!

shoppingmom, I have the same question.....my TEs are giving me a shape like a D which I do not want as my final size, and they seem to be going into my armpits too. Does everybody elses TEs not go into their armpits?

I also have the sunburn feeling in one breast only. It's SUPER sensitive.

Hello all: I had my surgery (BMX without recon) in mid-january, but saw the above question about the burning sensation and thought I'd share my experience with you. I developed a continuous burning sensation at about 2 weeks post-op. It often felt like someone was running sandpaper over my chest. It was pretty significant for about two weeks and then just slowly started to improve. I am now 7 weeks out and it is nearly gone. I still get the sensation in the later part of the day/evenings but it is very minor in intensity compared to the first couple weeks. I also get the same feeling if I am more active than I realized. I use it as a sign to back off a bit. When I felt the worst, I found the best relief was standing in a nice, warm shower. Gentle massage has also helped.

Good luck to everyone as they continue to heal.
