NurseShark...sorry to hear about your pain. I had immediate gummy bears, and although the first week was torture, I have been fairly pain-free. Spasms stopped once all drains removed. My breasts are really odd looking though.

I will post on the picture forums.

Pain a little better doc said okay to start nsaids so I took ibuprofen...it's helped a lot.

I agree my direct implant s look funny can't quite figure out why ..nipples getting a little better less scabby. So next person that comment s to me that I'm lucky to get "perky new boobs" after pregnancyy .I'll just flash them and say for the last time breast reconstruction is NOT breast augmentation!!! <--was just over on other thread about stupid comments you get once diagnosed...made me chuckle.

Justamy, I'm sorry you had to deal with that! I'm not on here as much as I'd like to be, but everyone is warm and sharing in this group. You have put many of my fears and concerns to rest, and I appreciate all of you!

Hi! May I officially "join" the February 2015 surgery list? I am so appreciative of all of you! 8 days after surgery (left breast mx with tissue expander placement), and I'm just taking it easy hoping drain 2 can come out soon...

NurseShark...I have a daughter (38) that keeps telling me that, about my "perky new boobs".  It is unnerving.

Thank you God that my drain put out only 30cc's in the last 24 hrs. so it looks like I will bid Mr. Pratt goodbye on Tuesday when I see my BS. This means I will be on schedule to begin rads. Hallelulia! One more hurdle over. Love, Jean

Please add me to the list. Had a modified radical mastectomy (right side) on February 5th. So far, so good. Recovery has been way faster than expected. Just started driving yesterday, and have been doing physiotherapy twice a week. Planning on returning to work in a week. Everybody at my work place have been amazing and my employer, super supportive! I am very blessed...

Novna70...welcome! I see you had negative nodes and positive ER. Did you have the oncotype test done?

Hi everyone! Glad to see you are all still moving forward.

My SNB is Tuesday. Very nervous and upset I have to have another surgery. It's strange but I'm not even thinking about the results (yet). It's like I'm already "been there, done that" with the stress of waiting for results call.

Nurse shark, hopefully I will get a clear node diagnosis then will be setting up apts with radiation and oncologist Drs.

Back on my Xanax and waiting for Tuesday. Surgery is scheduled for 1pm.

As I have said before, you are all my strength, my surgery sisters.

Hi February Surgery Sisters, I am now three weeks and two days out from my BMX with expanders placed. Pain has subsided a lot... Just experiencing tightness and rock hard TEs. My last drain was removed Friday.... So I am finally allowed to take a shower today. My PS said I don't have to wear a bra... haven't had one on since surgery. Weird how we all get such different advice! During my BMX my SO removed five total sentinel nodes...during surgery a pathologist reviewed them and found no evidence of cancer. The final pathology report showed 1.2 mm of cancer in one node. Waiting on Oncotype DX results... if score is 25 or less, I get to skip chemo and do hormonal therapy only. Was prepared for no chemo or radiation... plan has changed a bit... but hoping to at least skip the chemo. Should have results early next week. Thanks for your support and input! Have a great day!

Post-double mastectomy with sentinel lymph nodes, my belly is like a beach ball. Seriously, I look like I'm pregnant. On-call nurse: "Oh, yeah, that happens to some people." Fine, but what do I do to reduce it?

Shelly74- I had surgery also on 2/6 and I'm also still experiencing tightness across the TE. Is this just what it is until the exchange? Any hopes this feeling will subside a bit? I don't find Aleve or Tylenol to offer much relief. It's been nearly 2 weeks since an expansion for me. My next one is 3/6.

My PS said it was fine to ditch the bra for sleeping after the drains came out, but she suggested it may help with discomfort after expansions. I'll keep that in mind.

Ksusan, there was a discussion about that I think earlier in this thread. Try around page 20. Or just search. There is so much info on these boards. It's like an Angie's List for BC.

AudreyB: I'm so sorry you have to go back for more surgery. Hopefully this one will be quicker and easier? I know that waiting for the results sucks. They should have a person in the surgery with each patient to check immediately to see if they need any more taken. I mean, I thought this was all about the "patient". (Did I hear wrong?) **Just the cynic in me coming out**

I'm not sure about therapies yet but have appt. on 3/4 to meet my "oncologist". I see my surgeon tomorrow (8AM) to hopefully get out last drain tube. These things suck too. They didn't tell me about these things before surgery. I had 4 and the first time I used my stomach muscles to get out of the hospital bed to pee before I went home I got this horrible shooting pain that didn't subside until the next day. Then when I got the first 2 tubes out (one nurse on each side pulling) I thought I was a gonner. It felt like they pulled tissue out of my chest clear up by my collarbone. I was a blithering mess. She had told me it might sting a little for a minute. I was like "are you kidding me?" Maybe I have low pain tolerance but it left me running for the door and shaking for hours.

It appears that I may be working up a rant but if I can't vent here then I gotta keep everything to myself and so far that's not helping my mental health.

Anyway, AudreyB...I'll be thinking about you and praying for a quick, easy time for you.

ksusan- Hello! I'm a January surgery sister and had the same experience post mastectomy w/ SNB with a HUGE belly that looked like I was 5 months pregnant. Also, my legs and feet looked like sausages in their casing. My husband called the doctor's office and they said that between the IV fluids and stress of surgery this can happen. They told me to elevate my feet but the belly took about 12 days to go down! They gave no advice on how to decrease the swelling for my belly just time would take care of it.

Hi RAK1! I'm actually feeling pretty good today! How are you feeling? I was fortunate enough to have one drain removed this past Friday and I'm hoping to have the second one out this week...i have an appt. on Wednesday, and the output is slowing down. My tissue expander feels tight as a drum ...i could bounce coins off this thing!

Hi ladies. Hope everyone I'd doing well tonight. Everyone here is snowed in...even church was closed. I am feeling a little better. I got my script for pain and I don't need it that often. I do see the PS tomorrow though and am very concerned that they will have to open my left side again to anchor my TE. I'm not sure why he doesn't fill them until 5 weeks after surgery but if I have to have another surgery....that will be 5 MORE weeks. Hopefully there I'd something else that can be done.... Hugs to all of you! Amy

    Hello All,

Just checking in to compare how the healing is going.

Had a lumpectomy with sentinel node 7 weeks ago, and mastectomy 4 weeks ago (both on left side). Most.of the pain is gone, my arm movement is pretty good, but far from normal.

My armpit is still rather numb, the pulling I used to feel in my underarm is almost gone. Still some burning pain in the back, quite localized around the shoulder blade. The biggest nuisance on the left is my side, right next to my TE, above where my drain was. It's completely numb, but also bulging, a little swollen. When I put my arm down, it feels like I have a ball under my pit. Anybody else has this going on?

On my right side I had a port put in on Thursday and at this point this is bugging me even more than the mastectomy side.

    BB

Good Question ksusan. I am the same way. Unfortunately,my eating habits have not been the best. Add that to the fact that I have not exercised since diagnosis and have been stuck in the house due to lousy weather and recovering from surgery. I think I will need to seriously work at getting back in shape!! It's always so hard to lose and so very easy to gain.
