Noticing for the last month or so that my hair is quite a lot thinner. Don't know if just part of getting older but... ?  Also take Biotin for hair, skin and nails to make them healthier but maybe it's doing the opposite.  I don't think I lose a huge amount of hair after washing, but it's definitely heading south.  Could it be chemo late effect or result of 5 years of tamoxifen?  Anybody have same problem and/or know a good remedy to keep hair from making an exit?? HELP

I have heard people say that tamoxifen has made their hair come out. Hopefully someone will come that has done experience with this.

When I first started going into menopause I lost tons of hair it lasted a couple years before it eased up. Now it is thicker even though i'm on hormone therapy. It might be normal shedding and settle down.

Meow13 - thanks for you input !  I'll ask about it next time I see the doc.  Chemo actually changed my hair's texture from each single hair's thickness to baby fine -- which is awful when even this super-fine hair is falling out.  I take calcium + D3 so now wondering if any connection there.

My update is am still losing lots of hair but onc seems to think boosting Vitamin D may help. Will see as I now take 2000 IU daily. Also trying the minoxidil twice a day but so far no results. I can't believe this is part of being menopausal. No women in my family every lost their hair at any time. My mother was a hairdresser and I so wish she was still alive today so I could see what she would think.

shelly, I lost a lot of hair on the AI drugs, which was very noticeable because I have thin fine hair to begin with. It made me feel miserable and unattractive. I started a new shampoo, I take biotin and use Minoxodil every day. I started all that late last spring and it took until the fall to see any real difference. But after 6 months I was finally seeing about an inch and a half of "under growth" of new hair. It has now been about 9 months and my hair has filled in quite a bit. Be patient, because it takes time to regrow hair. Also note that if you do get regrowth from the Minoxodil, don't stop using it as you will most likely lose whatever hair you regrow.

Try switching to Ava Anderson Non-Toxic shampoo. Disclaimer: I sell it. I am amazed by the number of people who have said that their hair stopped falling out once they started using it. My mom is one of them. A friend and fellow BC survivor is another. It's worth a try, isnt it? You can order here: www.avaandersonnontoxic.com/jenblanchard.

Bren -- good to know about using Minoxidil. I will just keep using it for a while then and see what happens. I had thick medium coarseness hair before chemo, but after about 3 years on Tamoxifen, my hair started really thinning and just last year was falling out in bunches. I hope that by boosting vitamin D and the minoxidil, I will start seeing some regrowth. Thank you for the input and I hope you keep the hair that you've grown back!!
