itchy feet?? Arimidex

Options

I know there is one woman here (nomatterwhat) who stopped arimidex because her feet were terribly itchy. Just wondering if anyone else has had this funky side effect.

My MO said she hadn't heard of it before but acknowledged that nothing is impossible (I love my doc) and suggested that I go off it for a week or two to see if there is a connection.

The tops and bottoms of my feet are so itchy, sometimes it looks like a rash, sometimes I see exactly round bumps clearly under the skin and sometimes there is nothing there. It is intermittent but frequent and though it isn't itchy right now it seems to have gotten worse. Wakes me upsometimes in the midle of the night.

anyone else??

thanks!

Jen

That  would be me.  The itching was awful!!!  It also made my fingers wrinkly, like they were turning 80 and I am only 54.  I am doing much better on Femara.

I have skipped six doses of arimidex and my feet feel better... still a little itchy but no where near as itchy as they had been.

Have an MO appointment tomorrow, will be interesting to see where it goes.

Jen - I'll be interested to hear what your MO has to say. Hopefully, you'll get a more engaged response than what I've often heard from my MO, which is "It's highly unlikely" that symptom such-and-such could be due to the tamoxifen or anastrozole or whatever drug they have prescribed.

Okay, I've continued my own research.... there are three of us here who have experienced itchy feet and made the connection. There are a few others who say they are itchy but are managing it with foot powder. Last night I was talking to a good friend who mentioned that her feet itched while she was on arimidex, stopped when she switched to femara. That's what cinched it for me - there IS a connection!!

My MO agreed that it is most likely from the med. She switched me to Femara. When I went to the pharmacy to pick it up I mentioned the itching to the pharmacist. He nodded....had heard that before. Funny. So, if you are taking arimidex and your feet itch, it appears there IS a connection!

I will start my Femara in a few days. Wish me luck that I'm not just trading for a worse SE.

Jen, I have not had no issue with Femara.  So, so, so much better than Arimidex.  I also take COq10 with the Femara.  Good luck to you.

Jen, as one of those with itchy feet, I'm curious about what's actually physically happening to cause it. Did either your MO or pharmacist say why Arimidex makes the feet itch? I hope the Femara works for you.

The pharmacist indicated allergy. I actually called him last night because my feet were so itchy again even though it had been six doses skipped. He said it can take a while for it to clear my system. He suggested waiting a few days to start the femara. I've now skipped seven doses; getting nervous, will start the new drug tomorrow.
