Tamoxifen 5 or 10?

I just returned home from my five year checkup with my oncologist. She didn't address stopping Tamoxifen with me. When I asked about it she said I can take it or quit, my decision. I pressed for additional information or advice and she didn't have any. Am I really just supposed to make this decision on my own, with the help of the internet? What am I supposed to do (other than find a new oncologist)?

My MO said there would be a very small benefit for me. Since I complain about SEs a lot & have uterine/ovary issues with the drug, he'll be fine with me calling it quits after 5yrs. I have another year & a half to go. Unless new more convincing info come out, I plan on stopping at 5 years. He also left the chemo decision up to me. Another small percentage benefit. To me, it sounds like the benefit in your case will be small but if you have no problematic SEs, why not continue?

I'd rather walk on hot coals than go 5 more years.

Hi ladies, i have just finished 5 years on Arimidex, my onc....has advised taking Tamoxifen for a further 5 years, i have been taking Tamoxifen for 3 weeks, i feel so tired, i am certain it is a side effect, not sure i can do 5 years feeling like this, i was wondering if anyone else has felt this, and do side effects decrease as time goes on...kaza
