Change.org petition for better use of fundraising dollars

Hi Ladies, we're only at 2,000 signatures for the petition, and need at least 5,000 more for it to be presented to the various charities.
Bumping in the hope that we can get more signatures. Petitioning that at least 50% of fundraising dollars go towards research for a cure: a worthy cause.....let's do it !!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Not sure if you've all seen my post in the Advocacy forum re signing a petition requesting that at least 50% of fundraising dollars go towards a cure. I am re-posting it below. PLEASE sign the petition and pass it on through social media etc. It is at 2,000 signatures now, and 5,000 are needed before it can be presented to the charities. THANK YOU!
* Some of you might be familiar with Ann Silberman's great blog "Breast cancer...but doctor I hate pink", which has chronicled her journey from diagnosis to metastasis. (She also has a Facebook page under the same name). I know many of us share her concern that Pinktober madness does not necessarily help towards BC research for a cure. She has started a change.org petition requesting that more fundraising dollars be allocated to finding a cure, rather than just raising awareness. I am posting the link here, hoping that we all can support this cause, by signing the petition and sharing on social media.

I can't seem to access it on the iPad but will sign and repost when I get home to. 'real' computer.
I think the petition is a most worthy effort and I'll do what I can to help it succeed.
-
on FB it says
We only need a few more signatures
I have it all over the place.
On one of the posts it said we only need a few more
What is the exact amount we need to get this started
-
I just checked a link that one of the sistas sent me
According to this we need 1,281 more signitures
Does anyone no it this was updated?
And accurate
-
My posting said 1,896 more needed so it must be updated instantly.
-
I have been trying for days to sign that petition, and I keep getting an uh oh message, i will keep trying, but i don't have a face book account and don't really want one either. So what do I do?? Frustrating
-
I think an email address is ok to use, I signed a few days ago and the details are already a little vague for me but I am almost positive that facebook is not required, unless somehow they verified my facebook account through my email address? I am not a big facebook user, never have been and I don't plan on it in the future, so I remember using my email address.
-
Thanks, MusicLover, I did use my email, but I am guessing maybe its my browser. Or I will try my man's computer. I tried it from her blog too, and I can't join and be a follower of her blog either, so I am starting to think its my computer...yuck. I also tried from SlowdeepBreathes' blog where she has a link, and if anyone hasn't visited SDBs' blog yet, i highly recommend it! you will find a great and funny woman there!

Tomboy, you don't need to sign in from Facebook. If you click on the link I put in my original post, it's pretty easy to sign up as long as you fill in the relevant info, so not sure why you can't. Hope you find a way!!!
Firecracker, the site says 5,000 signatures needed, but Ann mentioned that she thinks she really needs at least 10,000 signatures for Komen to pay attention. I will clarify with her and update you all when I hear from her. It's going pretty slowly, was hoping she would get a big response from this site, but I am so thankful for those who have participated. Not sure why more people on this site wouldn't, as I think it's very important to all of us. Maybe they're not seeing the post, but I don't want to post it on every forum on here and annoy people !!! Don't know if these big organizations will pay attention at all, but we can only try.
If you're not on Facebook, maybe you could share by email? My friend has done that, as she's not on FB. I don't usually mail-bomb people, but people send so many other "show you support by sending this candle around the world" trivialities to be forwarded by email as a way of "supporting" cancer patients....maybe they wouldn't mind doing something that may really make a difference !!
-
This was an email I sent out, as well as sharing on Facebook. Feel free to use it!
**********
Dear Family and Friends,
I know many of you have supported Breast-Cancer-Pinktober-Madness by buying pink ribbon paraphanaelia, and everyone who has dealt with this disease appreciate this immensely. However, do you know where those millions of dollars that have been raised are really going? Most people who "buy pink" or run races believe that their money goes towards funding for a cure. They are misinformed.
*Do you know that most of it goes towards "awareness" and screening (mammograms) and NOT towards research for a cure ?
*Do you know that there is mounting controversy whether or not early screening/ mammograms have any effect on survival rates?
*Do you know that 25-30% of people treated "successfully" for early stage breast cancer will, with no warning, become metatastic at some point in the future? If it metastasizes, you are considered "terminal"...there is no cure.
So if you REALLY want to show your support, don't stop "buying pink", but make sure your donation is being used in the best interest of breast cancer patients. Take a minute to sign this petition, which is requesting that at least 50% of fundraising dollars go towards RESEARCH. Research towards better treatments, and hopefully, a cure.
And then please share it with all your friends through email or on Facebook, and ask them to share it with their friends, and so on and so on and so on. You can make a difference !!!!Thank You !!!!

I think ppl r afraid to sign on email...then the spam comes
I think by getting on the phone with some of UR peeps who no and understand what this is all about maybe then we can convince ppl to sign..
I have it all over facebook as im on every day but I dought ppl r payin attention unless they have someone close to them with this beast we r dealing with
I'll do anything to get the word out
Someone tell me how
-
True, most people won't bother
-
I don't use my Facebook and signed up through my email account. I haven't gotten any spam at all. Thanks for the letter. Many of my family have signed. I will send that letter tonight to family and friends. My sister also posted it on her Facebook page.
-
Maybe we can make a YouTube Video to direct people to the petition? It would be cool to have a channel dedicated to the cause and we can have different people post videos. Maybe explain what living with stage 4 cancer is like on a daily basis. Before my diagnosis, I had no idea there were so many kinds of BC - I was very ignorant. I believe most people are like how I was. Heck, even people related to stage 4 people don't always get it. I really do believe that most people think you can "beat" stage 4 BC. They have no clue it's terminal. Maybe if people realized how many mothers, daughters, aunts, brothers, sisters etc we were losing there could be more of an impact to sign a petition. The angels thread is a sobering place to visit. There has just got to be some way to get it out to the masses. We need a good marketing person.
-
U tube sounds great
I worked in marketing and also in collection
I can be very forceful
I just need someone to work with me
I also worked for a newspaper in BROOKLYN..
How about an ad?
The down side of this is that the ad will cost....
This is very frustrating
How many members R on BCO?
Maybe we can speak to the mods to help
UR thoughts
-
Signed with just using email. There is a place where you can check if you want to share on Facebook, but you dont have to have Facebook to sign the petition -
The mods haven't responded to my request that they put it up as a stickie. And I don't think many people on this site have responded, I don't know why. If people on a breast cancer site are not even interested, then how can we persuade the general public to get on board? I have no answers.
-
Slow, I think Ann has some vids on Youtube,,, pretty sure I saw one of them from one of her FB posts. -
Ladies, do you think I should hijack some of the "active topics" and post the info in them, so more people on the site wil see it? Or will that piss people off ?
-
yes I think U should
Why would they get pissed off?
It's for them as well as for everyone
A few yrs.ago someone decided to write a letter to the president about BC..we were lookin for ppl just to send letters..flood the White House...there was only one thread where I barged in that made a fuss....
I may be liked by many but there R some sites I will not go near...
Iu R thoughts
-
No. Please do not hijack other threads. Be patient. Maybe re-post as a brand new thread in a couple of other forums. This petition has garnered well over 4,000 signatures in just a few days. That's fantastic!
-
Ditto.
-
OK will not hijack. Cancer makespeople cranky
