oh wilsie, I hope your feeling better and better. Yes, your DD is wonderful for helping out. Let her continue to do for you, please.

Leah, we have a huge distraction over here. The "super bowl" or you could focus on the tennis. I know that trying not to worry feeling.

It is so cold here now. My brother's house had some pipes freeze. The power went out for a brief time and must have caused the furnace to turn off. So my DD heard an alarm the other night and we tried to get in but my key didn't work. So he tried to come down today, but the boats weren't running. So we got a friend to get in and a few pipes have burst and there is frozen water everywhere. I got my plumber to go over there and turn the water off. They will start working on it tomorrow. Getting the insurance company to give estimates and all. What a bummer! Looks like we'll have another house to work on.

Nancy I never thought that the lovely snow and ice would and could cause so much damage! Just goes to show what a green horn I am when it comes to that sort of weather! I do hope the internal water damage is not too much and that your brother hasn't lost anything precious.

Thanks for posting that other (to me) beautiful pic of the snow.....love it!

Well to night is it for the tennis and I I think that is a good thing as I really need to start to move again.....lol. I have a few clothes to sew to get ready for my trip to the tropical climes of Cairns in March........time is marching on and I leave the sewing till later it will not, i am sure, get done in time.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

    Love n hugs all! Chrissy

the final matches are too early in the morning or late at night for us to see the tennis Chrissy. It was fine when it took place all day as we caught some of it live..

Chrissy, how can you say you're not moving? When you watch tennis, you have to keep moving your head back and forth. Great neck exercise!

DH and I went to DD for our Sabbath (Fri eve to Sat eve). Let me tell you, her 5 little girls are a WONDERFUL distraction. Grandchildren are THE BEST.

The tennis final is being played as I speak......what a match!!!! Andy is down a set and a break but boy is the tennis being played of the highest caliber!!!!

Leah I'm so glad you got to have the distraction of your grand babies........they do truly demand all of your attention.....lol......and five little girls all together? oh my goodness!!! Definitely a distraction!!!! Leah you are right about the head movement.....lol.....only problem is there is waaaaay more fat on the posterior than the neck and believe me, there is no exercise going on down there, it just keeps getting wider!!!......lol.

I need to get back to the tennis as Andy has just broken back and it's all even in the second set!! Woohoo!!!

    Love n hugs all!!! Chrissy

Nancy, snow is so beautiful but at times so destructive.  Hope your brother doesn't have a great deal of damage.  We usually get some snow but none yet.  I love to watch it come down but nobody native to this area knows how to drive in it, as the Northerners who move here like to remind us!  DH does okay since he went to graduate school in Alfred NY and later lived on Long Island, plus his vehicle is 4-wheel drive.  I can't drive on it and don't try to.

We went to our usual Super Bowl party (always at the friends who have the biggest TV's house) with the usual scenario--men in living room watching the game and women in dining room watching the commercials.

Leah, I imagine those grandchildren are a much beloved distraction!  How wonderful--5 little girls!

Wilsie, hope you're improving every day.  Thinking of you, girl.

Hey Kathy, we've got way too much snow right now. Traffic in Boston ground to a stand still today. Roads are down to one lane and no one can see around the snow banks. I'm glad I didn't have to go into the city. Tomorrow they have the duck boat parade for the Patriots. But as I said to someone at the dog park today it is winter in New England. what do we expect! I have an all wheel drive Subaru which drives very well in the snow. But I have learned to stay put when the weather is terrible.

My brother does have quite a bit of damage, but the restoration company has been in there all ready and torn up the carpet and some of the ceilings and walls. It should be covered by insurance. He came down on Sunday and we got to spend some time together. So that was nice.

    image

we share our dog park with an old runway. And the other evening a plane actually landed and then took off again.

I got the results of my PET/CT. Not good. The bone mets are growing and one of the liver tumors is bigger. So I'll be switching to Navelbine once a week infusions.

So it looks like cancer will no longer be a hobby, it's my job now.

Oh Leah, I am sorry you have to make fighting cancer your job. I, too, hope the new regiment will work wonders.

I keep telling people that being healthy is hard work. Then when I am really feeling low I'll see someone in a wheelchair trying to move through snow drifts and realize I have soooo much to be grateful for.

I was feeling bad because someone took their shoes back from the shop today because I wasn't fast enough at fixing them. I still think I "should" be able to do some (at least) of the stuff I use to do. But my health is more important, blah, blah, blah........ Sorry I'm kinda down tonight, can ya tell?

Oh Leah! Damn I hate this disease!! Not the results we were hoping for and not the job you need at this time of your life! I do so hope that the Navelbine does it's job and kicks that cancer hard and then keeps it under control while not giving you too many SE.

Nancy it's hard when we think we should be able to do more and our body says 'no way'. So sorry you had a customer retrieve their shoes as they thought you 'too slow'. Sometime I wish they could walk a mile in our shoes then this sort of thing wouldn't happen and it wouldn't end up by putting us in a blue funk. Hope tomorrow is a far better day for you.

Special ((((((hugs)))))) for both you and Leah and

Love n hugs to all. Chrissy

    Hi ladies,

Haven't been on these boards for awhile. I needed a break from thinking about cancer. Today I was out cleaning the horse pens, when I realized I was doing that exact same thing on this day one year ago-when I got the phone call that my biopsy was positive. It's been a rough year. But I'm still here! Feeling much better physically, but still have some dark days. I just try to remember all the good stuff in my life to lift me back up again.

Wilsi, I hope you are feeling better and are back on your feet again soon!

Leah, I'm sorry to hear your news. Hope your new treatment will work well for you.

Mac, Hope you are doing ok.

I keep all of you in my daily prayers. Love and hugs, lilyros

chrissy, I "know" in my head to not take things personally, but every so often.......

anyway I saw this pic on FB and thought of all the talented women here that might get a kick out of it.

Nancy, I just laughed out loud when I saw your slippers picture!  I do believe I could make those....

Oh Leah, I'm sorry the results weren't what anybody wanted.   Hope the navelbine does what it's supposed to, and that the side effects are nonexistent or minimal.  Hugs and prayers to you.

Lilyrose, so lovely to see you! My goodness, I can't believe a year has passed already but for you I guess it's gone at a snails pace. Congrats on being at the end of that first grueling year! and for starting to get back to 'the normal' life.

Nancy I spat my coffee as I looked at your slippers pic!!!! I'm still chuckling......lol. I loved it!!!! So glad you are not feeling so down today..........yeah, it's hard not to take things personally. All the treatment etc makes us all just that little bit more sensitive to everything.

    Kathy, how are you doing?

Been trying to walk down to the shops each day as a form of exercise, so far so good, the only problem is with going to where the shops are, I have a tendency to buy more things......lol. I guess that adds to the exercise though as I won't need to use any weights as I get all the wight I need carrying home the goods!!!

    Stay warm all!!

    Love n hugs. Chrissy

    Hi all'

    Nancy loved the slippers.

    Leah big hugs.

haven't been posting much lately. Its just the RA has been really bad, have had such severe pain in lower back. Had xray and there is something pressing on the spinal cord. I need an MRI so they can have a real good look at it.Could be a herniated disc, a bone spur or something else. Problem is I can't get an appointment with a specialist for ages and this is privately as well. Will be see BS is ten days so she might be able to order the MRI.

I just haven't had the energy to do much on the computer and probably have been avoiding it as I just want to think its the old back problems getting worse and not anything else.

Have had a lazy time watching the tennis and several cricket matches and we have World Cup cricket starting soon so I don't feel quilty sitting knitting. have made several baby things lately for young friends who are having babies and about to start a shawl for our new grandchild who is due at the beginning of August.

I am very sore and tired tonight but at least I know why. I decided to do some gardening this morning I know it was bad and the doc told me not to do such things but I love being in the garden and has we had recently had rain it was the right time.

    Big hugs to all.

    My dear friends,

I have hesitated to post, all I want to do is whine. The colostomy was three weeks ago, and I have finally got a grip on that. I just can't eat, and it's making my blood chemistry go nuts. I can't walk 30 feet without sitting down. I have heard other people having a transfusion, does that sound like an option? I am trying really hard to eat, I have no appetite and nothing tastes right. so weird, me, who has always needed to shed a few pounds. I've lost 20 lbs. any suggestions? I am very discouraged. Wilsie.

oh aly, we all do what we shouldn't, don't we and pay the price! I hope you are feeling better and it will be just the same ol' back problem.

Wilsie, don't worry about complaining here. Could you drink smoothies? I put protein powder in mine and I know there are other powdered supplements that can bulk you up some. I hate how weak you are feeling!!! My sister had transfusions, but you have to be careful how your body reacts to them. What does your doc say?

here is a picture from my back deck this morning. (2nd blizzard in the last few weeks)

I have shoveled to put more seed in the feeders. That's where my priorities are, who cares about getting the car outta the driveway!

The snow is pretty, but glad I don't have to deal with it. I have lived in New York and Chicago. We are in the 60,s today.

I guess I will wait to see what dr says. I will keep trying different smoothies. Seems like 1/2 cup is my max volume. Wilsie

Wilsie, I was going to suggest Boost like Lisa did.  I've also seen some frozen smoothie "kits" at the grocery store. Don't worry one bit about whining either---you're important to all of us and we want you to get better.  I hope the doctor will have some suggestions that work.

Nancy, it looks like a winter wonderland to me but I know it's not at all that way for you!  Right now, we're having an ice storm and I'm just hoping the power stays on.  We have electric heat (heat pump) and no fireplace,  but I need my bi-pap machine!

    Hi Ladies,

I have posted this in a few threads to raise awareness of this petition, as I think it's an important cause to all of us. But response has been slow and has basically stalled. I am wondering if many people are not seeing it, so I am now posting it in some of the active threads. I hope you don't mind me doing this. If so, I will delete it.

Some of you might be familiar with Ann Silberman's great blog "Breast cancer...but doctor I hate pink", which has chronicled her journey from diagnosis to metastasis. I know many of us share her concern that Pinktober madness does not necessarily help towards BC research for a cure. She has started a change.org petition requesting that more fundraising dollars be allocated to finding a cure rather than just raising awareness. I am posting the link here, hoping that we all can support this cause, by signing the petition and sharing on social media. Thanks for your support !!

Wilsie, I'm not sure what your tolerance for milk product is but I have used Carnation Instant Breakfast with a scoop of ice cream and/or fruit to make a smoothie in the blender. Much more tasty (actually pretty good) than Boost or Ensure and very similar in nutrition. You can alter it with some yogurt or use some whey protein powder for an extra boost. If you haven't worked with a nurse who specializes in ostomy care, ask to see one. They can help with the nutrition or refer you to the proper place.

thanks for all the suggestions. I can tolerate lactose free milk, and will try Boost and instant breakfast. I got sick of Ensure when I was on liquid diet before surgery. I am at treatment now, so did get my numbers up enough for that, a big relief. I seem to be headed in the right direction, anyway. Wilsie.

    Hi Wilsey,

I was thinking about your special situation and wonder if a specialized on-line group for new colostomy patients might help you. I betcha one exists and you would find the voice of experience there for specific issues.

I remember during chemo how my food tasted so terrible. I am sorry you aren't enjoying your food now. I hope some time will even that out for you again.

Take gentle care of yourself. I have let myself get really weak again. I have to do somethuing to reverse this.

    Hugs Ginger

Just beautiful, Lisa.  I love the foreground with those gorgeous roses.

We made it through the sleet storm without a power outage and have been inside all day.   School's closed again tomorrow and the low temp on Thursday is predicted to be 8F.  So much for the sunny South.  Oh, and I forgot to say snow is predicted for tomorrow afternoon.  It's as if we're having the entire winter season in one week!  Nevertheless, I'm grateful it's not worse like some areas are having now.

Ginger, hope you can build yourself back up soon.   Thinking of you.

    Kathy
