AlexaP - sounds like you may be having muscle spasms. My plastic surgeon prescribed Valium in case that happens, so you may want to check with yours to see if they offer anything. I had similar pain with my last fill and it was much improved after 3-4 days. Glad that your exchange is getting close, Very exciting!
mommacat4 - you are right, I probably should embrace the naptime more since pain seems to be worse when we're tired.
-
My PS said same thing - TE is overfilled putting pressure on muscle and ribcage so "extra TLC" and muscle relaxers. Never thought of Valium but I have some for anxiety. Does it work?
-
Alexa - My PS prescribed Valium for muscles during fills. If you're already taking something do NOT take both. Call your PS and see what they say. My TEs were uncomfortable but not painful. I hope you get relief soon
-
Oh no I would never mix. Just wondered if it worked.. The muscle relaxers aren't doing much...
-
Hi Ladies! I am so sorry that you are going through crud. But I am so glad I stopped by! Misery loves company. I am in full on negative Nellie bitch mode so you all made me feel better!
Awest- I totally feel like you do. I am sore 24/7. I don't wear a bra, just camisoles because the bra band makes a huge indention around my torso and by the time I get home I am in complete pain. Even sometimes the camisoles do that too. I am miserable. I went from being a strong I can do this, can't wait for my new boobs attitude to being irritable and wanting to just be done. And I know what you mean about looking like you are fine. I am working, meeting friends for dinner, going to kids events and have makeup on, hair done etc but I feel awful and just want to get home and crawl into bed. I think everyone must think I have turned into a complete jerk because they think I should be better by now. Its been 11 weeks since surgery. You should be fine. I am normally really social and funny and talkative and now I just stand there thinking all I want to do is go home. I can't chit chat or small talk or anything. Pretty much miserable. I am off the valium except a half before bed because it makes me loopy and tired. So I have to take 600mg every 5hrs to function. It doesn't really seem to help much.
I had my last fill a week ago and have surgery scheduled for 3/3. I am ready to do it as of 2/9 by my doctors guidelines but he is booked. Believe me am emailing them every week to see if they have a cancellation. I hate keeping these in for another month due to scheduling! Ugh! At least its coming up.
Ok thanks for letting me rant ladies! I think my husband sensed that I am way irritable because he just made dinner for us all and called me down to eat. Thank goodness it isn't me cooking tonight!
-
Still feeling these expanders! I took some of the advice from you ladies and I do feel a little better. I did a bath in Epson Salt before dinner and after the bath put on a tight workout tank to give me some compression. I am going to try to sleep in it tonight as well and see how that goes. Done with fills as of last week so now u wait for my exchange on 3/3. Cant come soon enough.
Thanks!
-
I've not had that but I'm only at 200 CC's. Sound like a have baby boobs! 😂. I'm sorry to hear this and hope you get answers. I wonder if your expander is pressing on a nerve?
My back gets sore after fills but more so because I hunch over.
Let us know what you find out!

Awest, I was not able to have Mexican food until tonight. I found a place in Glendale called Manuel's. It was the first time I had ever been there. The service was excellent, and the food was very good. My family loved it. Of course I couldn't taste it's true potential because of the chemo drugs but it seemed to satisfy me and I was able to hold it down so that's incredible in my opinion. Lol. I guess the thought of Mexican food and the fact that it stuck with me is impressive enough.... lol.. oh, I am sorry, I was unable to get a picture of my plate it was too dark in there and we were very distracted by a lady making balloon animals for the kids.
AlexaP, 800cc is a lot of fluid. it sounds like maybe there is a pinched nerve or at least a nerve that is being rubbed when you move a certain way. I would suggest first calling your doctor, then maybe try a hot compress on your back/shoulder area where you feel the pain. If you can't do that try applying pressure to the area or have someone else apply pressure to the area (back/shoulder area) for a small amount of time. Or you might want to try a light muscle relaxer but of course always check with your doctor first. Good luck with this and good luck with the exchange. Keep us posted!
-
Thanks mommacat. I'm on a muscle relaxer and have my family rubbing and yes pushing on that area of my back. It def feels like a pinched nerve. I already talked to the dr who agreed that's probably what it is. I'm going to call him back and ask for an earlier exchange date. This is not resolving and it's really affecting my quality of life. If it wasn't for this I would be able to get things done. As it is now all I can do is get up for short 5-10 minutes at a time and then have to recline to put pressure on that area. Tiger balm, icy hot, even prescription Voltarren gel don't do much. I feel whiny but I'm miserable, it's endless nagging pain... Last night had to take another dilauded.
-
mommacat - I'm glad it was good and that it agreed with you. I can't wait to have me some real Mexican food! 😜 Thanks for the fun share!
Alexa - I'm sorry you are miserable. 😞 I hope the doc figures something out for you. Hang in there!
-
Awest I discovered the cure. Vodka. 🍸
No I'm not kidding. Had ONE vodka martini last night (no other meds on board, it was a special occasion) and voila I was pain free the rest of the night... A shot a day keeps the pain away? It helped 100% more than anything else...
I'll call my dr tomorrow though ...
-
Well then.... Let us join you! Whatever works, right girls? 😜
I'm heading for a fill tomorrow and they might have to drag me kicking and screaming. I was finally able to lift my arm 3/4 of normal a few days ago.
Think anyone would notice if I tried vodka before the doctor? Lol
You rock Alexa and if this works I might be meeting you on an AA sight in a few months! 😂
-
Awest - Hope your fill tomorrow goes well. Do you have cording limiting your range?
AlexaP - I'd love a little vodka in my virgin marys these days. Martini would be good too. Or a margarita, or, or . . .
-
uh oh!
-
I had the fill and I've decided I feel like I'm having labor pains in my upper body. These fills make me want to say BAD words - very bad words. I will resort to vodka if need be and I don't drink!
I'm not familiar with cording. I have had limited range but last week it improved some. I'll look up cording - maybe I did.
My next appt is in a month, Dr said he might be out of town. Guess I won't be ready by spring break for the exchange anymore.
This fill was really uncomfortable. Dr said the bigger you get, the more uncomfortable it gets. Ugh!
How is everyone else?
-
I'm doing a lot better. Sipped on a shot of espresso vodka yesterday and had a 99% pain free day. No muscle relaxers, no motrin, no painkillers, just one little shot from about 2-6 pm... Oh and I slept a lot better too. I'm not out to promote alcohol consumption but after a desperate week of almost intolerable pain I'm sharing my "cure." ... ... I'm going to need to go up Toat least to 900cc and this is the first time I think I might be able to handle it!!!
-
You ladies are hilarious, I know pain is no laughing matter but if vodka is what gets you through. ... well....
I actually would love a rum and OJ but I was told I can not have alcohol while on chemo So I gave all my alcohol to my sister just so I wouldn't have the temptation in my house. I would ask doctor about the alcohol and how it interacts with chemotherapy.
Check with your dr about the fill, you can actually tell your doctor you don't want a fill this time and tell him why. He may have to put you on physical therapy because it might be that you have scar tissue in there bothering you.
-
No chemo here it was prophylactic surgery and thankfully this time pathology was negative!
He wants to try and do an 800cc silicone but there's no way it will match the TRAM reconstruction - I will need the flexibility that only a saline can give... He had given me a couple of weeks to think things over and hubby and I agreed last night that we need to try for the saline. So maybe PS won't have to do another fill, maybe he can just put in a saline implant and fill it to 900cc... Would be a lot easier than going through another fill with this awful TE!
No vodka today and no pain... Maybe I've turned a corner. Guess I'll find out tomorrow... Good nite ladies
-
If I had to have 900 CC, I'd be institutionalized - just saying! I think we are hoping to make it to 400 but after yesterday's fill, I'm not sure. I am having breath stealing muscle spasms.
I'm wondering why I wasn't prescribed pain meds. The muscle relaxers aren't working.
So I'm up because I needed a change of positions and the darn Internet is down and someone removed the batteries from the remote. This blows! Lol
-
Awest, I have taken valium for the muscle spasms a few times and Tramdol for the pain (also a few times). I've been fairly fortunate with pain so far (so vodka is just a fun idea instead of a reality for now). Next fill is about a week and we'll see how that goes. I think I will need about 3 more fills on that side as I'm terribly lopsided (4 years of nursing and my babies definitely must have preferred the right side...haha).
Alexa P, hope you've turned a corner! Have a local friend who got implants (not cancer related) 15 years ago and did 900cc in one side 950 in the other. She remembers feeling lke the TEs were hard basketballs on her chest and was most uncomfortable trying to sleep. But she needed the size due to her chest width and her height. She's very happy now, even 15yrs later, and would do it all over again. Keep your eye focused on the prize. You are almost there!
Hope all of you have a wonderful day!
-
Oh Awest I'm so sorry. I was very lucky because I had NO issues until this last fill to 800 and then only after I overdid something... So far so good today, woke up a little sore but hoping that massage will help it... It's mostly cuz it's jamming up into my armpit, the chest is fine... Got my eyes on the prize Mom!
Hang in there Awest. call your dr for a painkiller. Dilaudid works great too! Demerol would be even better..
-
Awest, I would call your dr for pain meds. They should be able to call something in to the pharmacy for you.
-
Phone call is in, now waiting for them to call me back. I sat up all night because it hurts to lay down and my back is a problem this time. O'well ... Nearing the end of this mess girls!
Mammacat- New place for you to try in Glendale. LaPiazza - it was in Man VS food or one of those shows. Looked good!!!! 😃
-
Maybe an Epsom salt bath would help relax at least your sore back?
I feel so bad, I KNOW how miserable you are right now! 😢
-
I called the doctor and they said no pain meds after three weeks post surgery. Why in the world am I the only one who can not get a pill to help with the pain? It's so odd. Of course I started to cry and now feel like an idiot!
They said even if I could get a script I'd have to come pick it up because they can't call in meds. I live over an hr from the doctor. Guess I'll have to suck it up once again. 😩
-
That's absolute BS! No compassion at all... Don't feel stupid for crying, you are hurting and frustrated. How do they expect you to heal when you're in pain?! Can you take magnesium for the spasms? Maybe go to the ER? Geeze, it shouldn't be this difficult... I hope you are able to figure something out...
-
We have the magnesium and I have muscle relaxers left over. Nothing seems to work.
They called back and said the best they could do was Tylenol 3. I don't care what it is, I'm just hoping it helps so I can sleep.
I'm really upset and feel belittled. We didn't choose this path and I really don't think we should have to suffer unnecessarily. It's not like I called and asked for a specific medicine. Your right, no compassion.
-
well Tylenol3 should help... I hope you get some rest!
-
Awest how are you? I had a good bit of respite from the godawful pain from my TE but it flared up,again yesterday... Dilauded, robaxin and motrin plus salon pas patches hardly touch the pain. I can't wait for this to be over with.
-
Awest,
don't feel bad for crying or for being upset about being in pain. We are all dealing with enough side effects that we shouldn't have to be told we can't have pain meds. That's In-humane. You need to get some relief any way you can.
I haven't heard of La Piazza but I will look it up on the Internet. I did find a good place called Manuel's right on Peoria Ave In Glendale. They serve a lot of food and they are good.
