Missed yesterday but thrilled to report I broke 180 - actually at 178.8. YAY!!! November 3rd I was 193.2 - I'm a happy camper.
-
patoo, Congrats! Are you following a particular eating plan or just eating right with smaller portions?
-
Patoo, that's wonderful. Don't you love it when it finally shows up on the scale?
-
Thanks. In August my PCP suspected pre-diabetes and suggested A1C test. I finally had it in November and it came back as Type !! Diabetes, full, not pre! I am not dieting, I've changed my eating habits. My lunch/dinner eating plan now consists of veggies, fruit, veggies, more veggies and then veggies and fruit. I include chicken or turkey, fresh cooked, and perhaps once per week I will have red meat. Since beginning of Nov, up until yesterday, I had no pasta, no potatoes, no bread, maybe 2 servings brown rice, no processed food. I say yesterday because I was out for a friend's birtyday and so had a small slice of pizza, 2 bbq wings and a slice of cake. Today I'm back to the no pasta, potatoes or bread. I know I will have them again but like not making it a daily or weekly part of my eating. Breakfast is usually a veggie omelet or oatmeal with berries. I find the protein from the eggs, poultry and red meat keeps hunger and craving away so it's really easy to follow the plan. I don't feel deprived because I know I can have what I want if I want it so it's not a problem. I also have probably cut my portion size by half but the veggies/protein/beans fills me up.
In a nutshell, I'm told my eating is very close to the South Beach plan. I have an appointment with a nutritionist in January so will put it all together into something more formal at that time. Hope this information can help someone and they don't wait to get a potential life-threatening dx like mine.
BTW, I'm also exercising at least 30 mins/day for at least 6 days a week. Might be no more than walking but it's working!
-
Patoo, You're doing great! My DD finally started paying attention to her Type II and she's also doing well.
-
patoo, that sounds like a sensible eating plan to me!
-
patoo, love the breaking news. Would love to hear what the nutritionist says.
Just in case I don't have time to weigh in tomorrow, weighing in today at the same weight as the last time.
-
Down 1 to 130.5. Looks like we're avoiding this thread until the new year.
-
Hahahaha....true to the avoidance! Next Wednesday will be true confessions time!
-
a day late and 0.5 up, so glad the holiday food is wrapping up
!!

Hi all. Vacation in FL/Disney was great. Temps were 70/80 and now back in NJ it's 17 outside. No, I'm not a happy camper with that but can't do much about it.
Happy to report this morning weighed in at 171.2. My pants now need a belt and in the next few weeks I will have to do some serious clothes shopping. I've been good on the eating and exercise but I have a feeling the metformin (diabetes med) helps with the weight loss. Will discuss with the nutritionist on the 17th because even though I needed to lose I'm beginning to wonder if it's healthy or if staying on the med will keep me sliding down. Yep, I know, a nice problem to have, at least for the short term but at this rate by June I'll be down to about 110 and ruthbru won't be able to see me on the beach during our CA trip!
-
Very awesome, patoo! You will have to wear a bright bikini so I can find your skinny self
I was terrible during the holidays & gained 5 pounds. 4.5 of which are back off....teeter totter.....
-
Up 1.5 to 132.
Patoo, DD took Metformin and it did not melt here away so I think it's your good eating and exercise doing it.
Ruth, Be sure to get a photo of Patoo in that pink bikini.
-
-
Patoo, I take a metformin once a day for insulin resistance. It does not cause weight loss. Give yourself a big pat on the back. -
Well I'm up about 3 pounds since mid-December. It's time to get back to eating right!
-
Congrats, Patoo! I think if you are running to the bathroom all the time because of it, it will probably cause weight loss (from the running, lol). I was constipated from it so gained weight. I don't have diabetes though, My onc encourages me to take it to starve any budding mets. He was really pressing me to take it this holiday season. I didn't though. I managed to lose the weight I gained by January without it.
Now I'm creepin up again but so far this year, checking my health app, I was lower than my low of last year and about 2 kilos lower than my high of 2014.
-
something like this?
-
HH, that's interesting. First I've heard of taking metformin for staving off any cancers. I do have more bathroom runs though not everyday. ruthbru, I will be sure to look for the pink bikini during my shopping spree Might buy it but can't say will wear it!
-
I know there was a big study with metformin. I never heard how it came out. It might be still going on. I think it was looking promising.
-
Congratulations, Patoo on your weight loss. That will surely be good for your diabetes and maybe you can kick it out of your life altogether.
Ladies I'm going to join back up for a bit. We had a bitter cold spell last week that I'm sure many of you shared and I could not stop eating! So I was up 4 to 5 pounds over my normal weight and I refuse for it to continue. This is my third day of being "reformed" and the crazy appetite seems to have subsided thankfully.
Speaking of bikinis, I actually tried one on recently as we have a cruise coming up in a few weeks. My stomach has never been the problem but oh dear, my backside is not ready for a bikini! If that visual doesn't keep me on a diet, then nothing will!
-
Down 3! Wish I could lose 3 every week!
-
I am not making any progress in getting back down to my goal weight. Winter and comfort food are doing me in.
-
Congratulations, TwoHobbies!!
Carolehalston, don't get defeated. The winter is really tough!
-
Glad I found you guys. Hopefully, 2015 will be successful for us all. Patoo-you are an inspiration. I want to be just like you!!!
-
Down .5 to 131.5.
-
I'm down one pound from last week.
-
Carole, I'm in the dog house with you and the winter comfort food!
-
Magical, don't join me this week as I'm up 1.5. Missed 2-3 days of exercise and had slice of carrot cake both Saturday and Sunday! So, back to basics.
-
Thanks, Moderators, for the encouragement.
