You all are funny! I appreciate this site tremendously. Not even sure what I would do without you guys.
Izzy - I think I had a marker clip move after a biopsy as well. I had a weird bump on my breast that was not there prior to the biopsy. Since I was having a BMX they told me no worries. It's gone now. 😉

Hello AlexaP,
I did ask my recon surgeon about the wrap and the massage therapy and he said he would prefer me to massage the rock hard area rather than wrap it but he wasn't opposed to me wrapping it. He said I could try it to see if it made any difference. I have been trying to massage it but it's a difficult spot to reach. I will try the wrap.
Thanks for the info

Momma u r welcome. I hope it helps. Even if just on for a few hours a day might help. After having it on for that first week my SNB site swelling is gone. Sometimes it gets irritated by a shirt I'm wearing to I gentlysqueeze my armpit into my arm for some compression and it helps...

Just checking in. It's been pretty quiet here, guess we are all getting back on our feet. I returned to work on Monday. All is going fine. I am just up for my second fill on Friday. I hope it doesn't set me back to much. Last time I hurt for about a week.
Does anyone know the timeline for switching out expanders for implants? I'm guessing the variables are too great to even suggest two people are alike. Just curious.
Check in if you can. Wishing my Nov. Sisters a happy and quiet new year!
-
Hi Ladies! Awest I got your note. I have not been around but doing fine. Thanks for thinking of me.I hope everyone had a great Holiday and NYE! 2015 will be fantastic for all of us. I know it. Normally this time of year I am reconnecting with my fitness goals and getting things decluttered and organized around the house so it has been really frustrating to me that I just don't feel good enough to do either. So I am working on getting back to eating well. I eat pretty well already but over the holidays we all slip.
I also changed my name on here. I am just filling and filling the iron bra I have on. So far I am up to 500cc. I finally asked him what he put in during the surgery and he said he started me at 250cc. I go weekly. I started at 40cc and then had to skip a week because I WAY overdid it and my pectorals were on fire. My husband never ended up getting a flu shot so came down with Influenza A so I was having to drive him to the doctor and then called to get the entire family Tamiful which meant I went to Walgreens 6 times in a 24hr period because they were out of it. Then my daughter came down with it and had to go to the doc (she had flu shot so was mild) so I was playing nurse and going up and down the stairs for 4 days carrying trays of soup, driving kids etc 4 weeks after surgery. So, I was a mess and there was no way in this world I was going to do a fill that week and doc agreed. So next fill I backed off to 30 and then back to 40 a few times and now the last two have been 50cc. Really the 50cc isn't any more sucky than the 30cc. They all suck so I may as well keep moving! I almost feel like the more I fill the better they feel. Or maybe I just get used to it.
I did run into a problem last week after my first "large" fill of 50cc that was AWFUL it felt like something was poking me under my left breast and felt like it was ripping. It started about day 4 and never really went away. By evening each night I literally couldn't sit up in bed. My husband would have to push on my back so I could sit up or else I figured out a weird way to actually roll out of bed. I went in and they told me it was just muscle healing and gave me another 50cc and it went away instantly. Today is day three of that fill. For some reason I always feel like from day 3 on is the hardest. I don't know if it is your muscles waking up or me trying to do to much? I am on Ibuprohen 800mg and Valium after the fills. I think I only have one to two fills left so my exchange should be sometime mid to late February! So excited to be out of these!
And I agree with all of you by night time I am wiped out. Just being uncomfortable all day long wears you out. Actually by 4:00 I am ready to just sit and do nothing. Today I felt tight and for whatever reason my skin all around my bra line was on fire. Like the nerves couldn't stand anything to touch it. Has anyone had that. I came home and ripped off my camisole and put on another but it was the skin. Nothing helped. I have young kids, and I am working, so I don't really get to sit down until about 8-8:30 and then I go to my room and shut the door and tell my kids if they need anything to ask daddy. I am DONE and IRRITABLE.
Hope the rest of you are doing well!

Hi ladies, looks like we're all getting back into the swing of things. I've had quite a few fills, the ps filled me to 300cc at surgery and I'm currently at 700cc... Hoping 800cc will do it but I have a feeling it won't be big enough to match the other side so I will have to go saline implant and do 900-1000cc... I guess I've been lucky that I can do 100cc fills every week. But I take a muscle relaxer the day of the fill and that has helped tremendously. My ps said once we are happy with the amount we will wait 6 weeks the. Do the exchange. So fingers crossed I get to exchange sometime in March.
Hope you are all doing well. Would love to hear from other NOVEMBER sisters. How are you???
-
Sunandsnow I've had the problem with the skin I know exactly what you mean. I have a prescription for a numbing gel - that worked wonders!!! Hope it's not happening too often. I get really tired out too but I also has a bso and unfortunate symptom of many times not able to sleep until 2-3am. Ahhh surgicsl menopause. Gotta love it.
-
Has anyone had the Oncotype test done??? What was your score? What treatments are you doing?
-
I haven't heard of that. Sorry I can't be helpful.
-
I had a fill today and paid attention to how much he was putting in. He is doing 60cc - no wonder it flipping hurts! Lol He said I am past needing muscle relaxers - ummm, I think not! That's a moment where you wish you could transfer the feeling on them just for a minute.
I'm only at 200 or so but I feel like it looks large enough. I can't imagine being much bigger. My doc said I should be ready for an exchange by spring break. I can't wait to get rid of these expanders! I also can't wait to sleep on my side again. The little things!
I enjoy hearing from those of you who have posted. It reminds me that we are not alone and have each other to bounce questions off of.
-
Mamadarrling, my oncotype score is 18 (12% chance of recurrence). I decided to do a clinical trial which randomly will chose whether I have chemo. I will find out Tuesday.
-
Updating my status - although my surgery was postponed until 12/4 I'm still hanging out with my November sisters! I had a colonoscopy the week of my planned surgery and had a minor complication that delayed my original date. I'm glad it did as I was in no shape to go into surgery after all that "fun". Opted for bilateral mx and had 1 sentinel node removed . Grade 3 DCIS that appeared to be 3.6 cm on ultrasound was actually 6+cm at surgery and contained 2 foci of grade 2 invasive ductal cancer (2mm and 3mm). Non-cancerous breast had ADH on surgical pathology so I'm happy its gone too! I'm a node neg, stage 1A, IDC ER+ PR+ HER2+, Bilateral TEs inflated to 50cc at insertion and have had 2 fills of 100cc each so far. No pain really at all...they are just very strange looking :-)
Happy our surgeries are done and we can start to move down the road a bit at a time. Sorry to hear about the TE pain some of you are dealing with. I know my day might come as we continue the fill process! Here's to hoping our 2015 is better than 2014!
-
Awest, as far as a time line on the expanders, I think it is different for everyone. My recon surgeon said he won't exchange mine until after my rads are done. Just to make sure the implant is not damaged by the radiation. Unfortunately for me that won't be until at least June or maybe July.
I haven't had a full in like 3 weeks but I was battling an infection then they placed the port in. I go back on next Tuesday. We will see what happens then.
Good luck to all you November sisters
-
Well I got my (hopefully) last fill and am at 800cc. Never had any pain from fills before but holy moly this one has done me in! Yikes!!! Ps wants to wait a month and then we will probably schedule the exchange in March. We are thinking an 800cc silicone will do the trick. The symmetry might be a little off but I think once it drops and fluffs it will be very close. Best part is that he said he usually doesn't do drains with the exchange so YAHOO in advance for that.
-
That's great news Alexa! Happy to hear you are making progress.
As for me, I am looking for expander stories. Is anyone feeling miserable with these things? I'm tired of complaining but they drive me NUTS! After a fill I'm down and out a couple days and the third and fourth are just slightly better. Normal? I kind of feel like the doc doesn't think it's all that bad.
Someone please tell me this is all normal and I am not alone. This is the only place I really open up because I know you all "get it."
On a happy note.... It's Friday! 😊 #fightlikeagir
-
Awest - I was coasting along through my first 3 expander fills thinking it was no big deal but figured that would change at some point. And, yes, it did, at my last fill. They only filled to 50cc due to some surgical problems (chest wall had to be repaired on one side due to a previous surgery, pneumothroax, chest tube, pleural effusion) but then started with 100cc fills which caused me no problems. 5 days ago I had a 150cc fill to the prophylactic mx breast (much larger - must have been the favorite for nursing!) and 100cc to the breast which had the tumors prior to mx. No pain at the fill, but the next day it felt as if someone had kicked me in my back along my upper ribs. The pain has subsided to a much milder level but is still there.
My expanders are pretty funny to look at...like headlights on a car that need to be adjusted. One sends all the fills to the outside creating "side boob" while the other likes to send the fills to the top inside and upper armpit area. Wearing anything with a scoop neckline is hilarious. I just have to laugh at it all and know that my surgeon will fix things at my exchange surgery.
Right now I'm 5 weeks post mx and have 350cc on left side and 400cc on the right. I hope your pain has started to ease a bit. My surgeon is fine with me sleeping on my side, tummy, whatever but I haven't had to ask yet about a pain med refill. Using acupuncture which has been amazing for other pain.
-
Awest do u have bilateral TEs? I only have one which makes it so much easier for me. Ihave to hold my foob with my hands to get up out of bed in the morning and since my last fill I can't really lie on my side anymore. I can feel it poking my ribcage and my armpit feels like someone shoved a grapefruit under my skin, I'm always adjusting how my arm "hangs" and it's wrecking my shoulder. Your PS sounds VERY unsympathetic... If you can't get muscle relaxers try motrin and some magnesium if you're allowed to take that. Magnesium helps the muscles relax (but too much will give you the runs so be careful how much you take). If you are allowed to take a bath, take an Epsom salt bath, this will also relax your muscles a lot... I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. It sounds like the TEs to you are what the drains were to me, oh how I hated every minute of those things!!!
-
mom2threeboys - The second part of your message gave me a good laugh. Thanks for that. I was just really curious how everyone was handling things. I am surprised how much you have been filled already. My surgery was Nov 20th and I'm just over 200cc. I've only had two fills. Going slow thank goodness because I might quit if I had to go more often
-
AlexaP - Yes, I have bilateral expanders. Getting up in the AM can be a real problem. Usually the hubs has to give me a push. Lol
I constantky feel the tightness of the expanders and by the end of the day my bra band feels like it's choking me. After my last fill, on my right side, the slightest weight from clothing was almost to much to bear. My right side bothers me way more than the left but that was my DCIS side and I had three nodes removed. Also, I have a stitch that did not dissolve and it is trying to pop through my skin. It freaks me out.
Making my arms comfortable is difficult, again more so on the right side. I definitely haven't gained back my strength.
Not that I want anyone to feel miserable, but I'm glad someone has a similar story. The only people I know personallyhave not started reconstruction yet due to radiation so I don't want to vent a scare them. Also, it's just hard to understand if you haven't been through it.
I'll check into the magnesium and Epsom salt ideas. I'm up for anything. I do have muscle relaxers but the surgeon said I shouldn't need them. 😁 I try to save them for fills and take Motrin/Advil the rest of the time.
Thanks for responding. Love my November Sisters!

Hello November sisters.
I had the issue with the clothes and seatbelt rubbimg. My dr had me sitting upright or reclined on the couch. Couldn't wear a bra but did allow camisoles. I found that the camisole did block most of the irritations of my shirt rubbing. As far as the seatbelt in the car I used a small pillow. I just got the ok from my dr to lay in bed and lay down. It feels so good to lay in bed again.
I am done with expansion for a while. I don't want to go any larger than I aam now but the dr said the radiation will make my skin and tissues shrink and tighten up so after radiation he may do another fill before exchanging them for the implants.
My breasts are funny shaped too. Left is flat on outside but mis-shaped around. My right looks a bit more normal and is smaller than left. But my left has always been larger to begin with. Dr. Said he will fix it when he places the implant. I trust him.
Good luck with everyone having sexy looking finished products.

mommacat, Noticed it says you are in Glendale. I live in Oklahoma now but AZ is home. Grew up in SE AZ but also lived in Tucson, Goodyear, and Flagstaff. Goodyear was my fav. Enjoy some real Mexican food for me. 😊
-
Awest, another thing that helped me is I happened to have one of those shirts you wear for boogie boarding... Because I live near the beach... But it is a tight Lycra blend shirt that you wear to prevent the board from tearing your skin up in the salt water. I wore it to bed last night because no matter WHAT I did I was miserable. I want to burn every single bra I own. Even the stupid genie bra that was so comfortable before, was killing me. Once I put this shirt on, it held the girls in place with just enough pressure that my muscle could relax and I finally had some comfort. If you can't get ahold of one of these, I bet a tightish fitting shirt with an ace bandage wrapped to just the right amount of pressure might help with those miserable aches and pains the TEs cause... Hang in there we will find something that helps!
-
Awest, I love Mexican food, what is your favorite? I will have something for you.
I was noticing you are having issues with your breasts. Kind of the "iron bra" not comfortable in anything or any position. My reconstruction surgeon wrapped me in a tight tank top with velcro after surgery. That's what I had on when I woke up from anesthesia. He told me to wear it the next day and take it off. I did that. For the longest time I had the same uncomfortable issues. I finally asked him if I could wrap back up because my breasts were still so swollen and hard on the sides under my arms. He said yes I could try it and also massage the area too. Well that isn't the most convenient area to reach.
I wore the wrap for like 48 hours straight except for showering. It helped tremendously. If you have something like that try it or ask your doctor if you should try it. Ace bandages would work too.
Another thing my recon surgeon did was told me to sleep sitting up or slightly reclined and do not wear bras. Camisoles are ok. The reason being is he didn't want the TE's to shift and he wanted my natural gravity to hold it's shape. This way he gets a better fit after all the swelling goes down. He is on hold to do the implants because he can't do them until after my radiation therapy is finished. He doesn't want to take the chance the radiation will ruin the permanent implants. He said the radiation will make my skin shrink making the TE shrink as well.
All this makes since to me. I hope I am explaining it well enough to you.
-
mommacat4 and AlexaP - All good suggestions. I actually tried magnesium before bed last night and slept like a baby. It was late and I was really tired but maybe it helped - we will see.
I've been wearing really thin bras or once in a while an oversized sports bra. The little bra things are from Walmart and are 5 dollars. I really like them. A young teaching friend told me about them and for now they are great. My surgeon hasn't really said anything about bras or wraps. I'm starting to wonder about him. You guys always have a lot of info and when I ask questions I don't get clear answers. But, I do like him and he is a top notch doc. Maybe he just needs to work on his communication skills.
Do you guys feel like you swell through the day? The bra band around my upper rib area gets so tight at night but I feel worse without one on.
Also, where they removed the lymph nodes I have a small round lump under the skin and it's always so sore. Of course it has to be where my arm lays onit and applied pressure. Wonder if it's scar tissue?
Since I am rambling here... Do you guys get emotional? I have been lately. Think I'm just tired of hurting. Plus, when you put on clothes and makeup and fix your hair people assume you are fine. You look great is what I hear - nice, sure - but just because we may look nice doesn't mean we feel great! I'm not looking for sympathy but I wish everyone would stop assuming I'm back to normal. Far from it!
Mommacat4 - Taco's there are my fav. Shredded beef deep fried in the shell! Yum-o! Here it's ground beef in the store bought hard shells... Not the same! Plus salsa there is much better! 😊
-
Awest I know EXACTLY what you are talking about with the band swelling and also that lymph node area being swollen. My surgeon put a wrap on me at one point (it's an ace bandage) and when I wrapped it up over that lymph node the swelling FINALLY went down! It was almost like a golf ball and hurt like hell all the time. I asked if I could keep wrapping it and he said sure, if it helps. I would suggest that for you... Also it will help the swelling in general. I get very emotional. In the beginning I would cry, now I get really bitchy. About. Everything. ! I figure we are entitled; we are going through a Lot of pain, our hormones are whacked out and there's only so much one person can hold in, right?! I'm very thankful for my November sisters, 👼 - without y'all I'd be a real mess! 👹
-
I love this post! I needed to hear this AlexaP! 😊 And oh how I get bitchy too! I'll seek out the bandage.
-
Awest - glad I could make you laugh They have been filling quickly with my expansions so far, but they also know I'm so ready to move on past this particular phase of the process of survivorship. Patience is not one of my many virtues...haha! My plastic surgeon is out of the office next week so I will have another two weeks until my next fill and I think I will enjoy the break since the last one gave me a little discomfort.
My emotions are all over the place. 90% of the time I'm going great, but that other 10% of the time I want people to just forget I have BC and stop saying how amazing I'm doing (because it doesn't always feel so amazing on the inside). I know intentions are all positive, but I miss the energy as I had before surgery, have grown weary of a schedule that revolves around medical appointments, and while I don't have any real post-mastectomy pain, the areas of my spine that were fractured earlier in the year have started to hurt again from time to time. Hate pain meds as they just make me sleepy so I've been taking advantage of some of the integrative medicine offerings at MD Anderson. I do acupuncture (very beneficial for pain and anxiety), along with brief chair massage and yoga. All aimed at relaxation.
Hope everyone is doing well and making good progress through the journey we are all on!
-
Ok awest, shredded beef deep fried in the Shell tacos it is. I will call a friend to see about going to lunch tomorrow. Lol. Oh, with salsa!
and don't ever worry about sounding whiney on this channel. We are here for you. We have all been there and I sometimes feel like I am headed there again. I was emotional today as a matter of fact. I don't put on make up unless I am going to work but I have been on short term disability from work so I have not been working.
Mom2threeboys, I was large breasted before my dx. I told my Ps that I want small boobs. Size B. No bigger. He has a tough job trying to get them evened out. I still have expanders till after my radiation treatments. I do take the meds necessary to get through the SE's of chemo because fatigue is heavy and rest is the best way to get through this. Your body needs rest. Try it.
Have a good night ladies, sleep well.
-
mommacat I am expecting pictures! I'd even go as far as telling you where I'd like you to go for tacos but my place had closed down when I last visited. It was Arturo's in Goodyear though in case they just relocated.
If any of you are Facebookers, look me up Anita West, my profile pic has a collage of brave sayings - one I posted on here before. I adore you all and consider you friends.
Be well all. I'm off to work. 😊
-
My turn to sound whiny lol. A few days ago, after my last fill to 800cc (yes 800 it's not a typo) my Breast and underarm hurt like heck! Not on common for such a big fill, that's the size of my expander. If we were really going for it, we would do one more to 900 but I'm at my limit. Anyway, the pain has stopped around the Breast but has sort of moved into my back. It's my right Breast, so now my back, between my right shoulder blade and my spine, feels like it has a huge knot in it. Sometimes if I move wrong it seizes up and the pain literally knocks me on my butt. I'm going to call the dr but wondering if anyone else has had this? I'm going to cross post this question too. Sheesh. Only 5 or so more weeks until exchange..
