I had a failed attempt at Tamoxifen and Anastrozole. My onco tried me on Letrozole, and after 2 weeks, I was developing breast and chest pain. I contacted her, and she said to call my surgeon. The next night, I woke up with chest pain, shortness of breath, sweating, and syncopal episode. Not sure how long that lasted, but when I woke up the next morning, I felt fine. I know I should have went to the ER, but cannot afford another medical bill. I do have hypertension, and my father started having MI when he was in his 50's (I am 45).When I realized how depressed I was last night, I called my onco today. I was chastised for not going to the ER, she refused to put me on any anti depression medications, even though she suggested it when starting this medication., and told me to call my PCP or go to the ER if I still felt suicidal. No, I do not now. But I am at a loss as to what to do, besides stop the Letrozole. Anyone else with these side effects???????

wow I would ditch the MO, your Primary might prescribe just talking on the phone. I remember the night after my dx I could not stop the panic feeling and they were very supportive and called in a temporary prescription for me to pick up. I want to mention I take the generic Paxil to help with my exemestane side effects. I am taking a break currently. It sounds to me like this MO is pissed at you. Sounds she is very non sympathic get a new one if possible. I would have to be close to death to go to the ER by me. I understand how you feel and the financial impact on top of that would strengthen my hesitation. Good luck I hope you get relief soon.

Chest pain, shortness of breath and syncopal episode are serious. You should see your PCP who will want you to see a cardiologist given the family history, I would follow that advice. It's not that your MO is pissed or doesn't want to prescribe but there are times when it is beyond their expertise that they suggest seeing another professional rather than mask symptoms you have. The letrozole may be an entirely different matter, get the cardiac stuff investigated!

If the chest pain happens again, go to the ER. Don't wait or worry about bills. It could be a life changing decision. Best of luck to you.
