Endometrial ablation after tamoxifen?

I've been off tamoxifen for 3 months now. My period has been coming every 3 weeks, lasting 10 daysand has been getting heavier and heavier with more clots and crazy ridiculous cramps. I called in sick to work twice this month because I couldn't even get out of bed. My Obgyn wants to do an endometrial ablation. He has a call into my breast surgeon and oncologist but doesn't think it'll be an issue. Anyone had this done? Not sure what to expect but I know I can't continue to live this way!

salli - I had it done about nine years ago for heavy bleeding. It didn't stop things, but cut it down about 30 - 40 %. More recently I had some issues w very heavy bleeding while on T, and it turned out to be an endometrial polyp. Once that was gone I have had no other issues. Have you had a tv ultrasound? The ablation wasn't too bad. Hurt a little like an endometrial biopsy, but it was over relatively quickly. Good luck!

I had this done for the reasons you mention. It was great for a few months, then the bleeding returned. It is not as heavy as before, but my period does seem to last a lot longer. It is not great, but is an improvement. It is worth a try. I had mine done at the hospital with sedation. Not painful at all. Good luck!

I did not get to the point of ablation. My OB suggesting taking Aleve, that some women found the bleeding decreased when taking it. It worked! No more tsunami periods.

You might ask your MO about ovarian suppression. The SOFT trial results were just presented at the big conference in San Antonio. Lower recurrence rates with ovarian suppression. I'm not sure of specifics on recommendations, but it could be a good thing to bring up.

Thanks for the advice ladies! I might try the aleve first and see what that does. I'm not in a rush though because my lovely almost 13 year old daughter just got her period for the first time...wondering if her hormones and cycle are affecting me at all. Double whammy between her and coming off the tamoxifen lol! I'm going to give it a few more months and see what happens!
