My surgical appointment 12/8/14
Hello, today I had my surgical consult
Estrogen and Progesterone receptors strong positive.
Mixed carcinomas.
Invasive ductal and lobular carcinomas.
HER-2 pending. IF positive Chemo right now for 4 months then mastectomy. Not a candidate for lumpectomy.
If negative, mastectomy uni or bilateral followed THEN by chemo and radiation.
Genetic counseling tomorrow. 3 weeks to come back.
Getting insurance approval for MRI of healthy left breast. It passed the mammogram, but if anything shows up on the MRI or if I have the Breast cancer gene, I will be faced with a Bilateral mastectomy and unsure about ovaries. It is to my understanding that ovary removal will take place after cancer treatment either way.
I have no swollen lymph nodes but they still can have cancer, but the surgeon says the non swelling is always a good sign. He thinks I will be in stage 2 due to tumor size.
I am undecided on reconstruction. I really am.
Stay strong Ladies!
Kristin

Hi kris - it sounds like your treatment plan is moving forward and that you are in good hands. I learned so much on these boards when I was first diagnosed. I think my onco is surprised about how much I know about this stuff, thanks to BCO. Hang in there, someone is always here if you ever need a listening ear. Take care.

Thank you. Next step Oncologist Monday and MRI of healthy left breast to be certain.

I sobbed the first time I went into that office with that awful word on the front door. Also, if you haven't had a breast MRI before, I highly recommend taking the meds they offer. I am not generally claustrophobic, but face down with a couple inches between my face and the base of the instrument made me have to talk myself down that first time without meds. Take care.

jillann, thanks for the advice on taking the xanax for the MRI. I am a little claustrophobic but now I'm sure I really am with such uncertainty. Mine will also be face down which to me seems strange but ok bring it on. I have mine Friday night so lol maybe I can take a little snooze in there too.
Take care,
Mary

I'm right there with you ER and pr both over 90 and her2 borderline waiting for fish results.
Also very strong family history but my surgeon drew for brca right in office and let me go home to research (maybe because I'm a nurse). Three weeks seems like a lifetime right now. Going for Mri, plastic surgery consult, radiologist, oncologist etc...
I'd love to know what treatments I'll be having too. It's never simple and I'm finding that bc is like fingerprints and none are the same. That being said the ladies here are awesome and I'll be watching for posts too.
Good luck and lots of hugs, fight like a girl
