    Five years from diagnosis and also finish of radiation. I did not continue with the Femara past a couple of weeks. I had a rough time with the lumpectomy and rads and by that time I was 66 and not ready to spend 5 years with more possible problems(it made my Tinnitus worse). I developed Irritable Bowel Syndrome from stress and eventually tried multiple antidepressants with bad side effects to all of them. I now have found a great therapist( after one that was useless) and am so much happier. It was difficult to ask for help but it has been definitely worth it. I'm caring for my nearly 98 yr old mother and the therapist has helped me deal with that also. I attend a support group and those ladies are just great. Sometimes we really need an army to get through the rough spots and it's so wonderful to find those sisters to help us.

    Yes Andrea.... Sometimes we need more than a Village... We need an Army... Or caring women on here... Glad you are "better" now! Wait! You said it was the Femara that made your hearing worse? It was the Tamoxifen for ME! I lost my hearing after 1 1/2 years... I quit taking it... Been wearing hearing aids for 3 years now.

    5 yrs and 7 months since diagnosis. Am posting today, because I had my annual mammogram at 12:30 this afternoon and at 3:00 my radiation oncologist called to say that everything looked perfect- I hardly had time to worry. I was standing in the freezer section of the supermarket with my unemployed son and his unemployed girlfriend buying them food to fill their empty pantry and ALL WAS GOOD. My RO calls the minute he gets my results - for my MRI in May he usually catches me in my kayak and I speak with him while bobbing on the Hudson. I am so grateful to him and his caring staff. my only bump along the way was a hysterectomy necessitated by endometrial cancer which caused me to stop taking tamoxifen at 4 years 5 months.

    Jelson, congratulations!! Once you had your hysterectomy were you able to go back on Tamoxifen?

    No because my body may have over-reacted to tamoxifen? although the gyno-oncs were confident that the cancer was well contained My Med Onc felt if there were any stray endometrial cancer cells left, they might have flourished on the tamoxifen?? (My take on this). Only tamoxifen is currently prescribed for DCIS and my Med Onc follows the guidelines precisely. Perhaps another Med Onc would have switched me to an Aromatase Inhibitor. Mine said 4 years 5 months, a good run. Also I am in my 60's, maybe if I were younger he would have been more aggressive. I did not push to take an AI due to possible side effects I didn't really want to experience.

    My cancer free date is December 16, 2009-the date of my surgery.

    That would make today 5 years.

    I passed my ten year mark last month.  Life goes on and I intend to make every day count.  Love and laugh every day.  No regrets allowed.

    Well today is 5 years exactly from the day I received the phone call letting me know I had invasive breast cancer. I remember so well thinking it would be my last Christmas with my family. Now it's 5 years later and I'm still here experiencing life to the fullest with my family. I am so grateful for every single day.

    Seven years today I got the official news that I had b/c. Not a great way to start the new year!

    But 7 years later I'm still alive and kicking, NED, and loving life. Happy New Year to everyone and may we all celebrate many many more New Years in the years to come!!
