Lisa, very colorful and interesting looking bird.
Teka, funny cartoon
Well ladies I have shingles. Just got in to the doctor this afternoon. I had shingles five years ago and it knocked me on my ear and I had weeks of fatigue. I had a shingles vaccine last year but there is no guarantee. The itching this time is just horrible. Hopefully the meds will kick in soon. Just took the first pill tonight.

Shingles!
(
Hopefully, only a mild flare-up.
Husband and I also got a shingles shot.
-
Teka - love the cartoon!! Too cute!
Nancy - hope you feel better soon!!
-
Thanks ladies. I am hoping for a mild case as well but the itching has been pretty awful. I am very concerned about this spot next to my eye that was itching and a bump appeared. Today it looks different which is a concern. I think shingles near the eye can cause blindness. I see my gyny today and maybe have him look at it and see what he thinks. I know it's the wrong end but maybe he knows about other stuff too. LOL -
DH got shingles on the nerve near his eye. They sent him to an ophthalmologist immediately. It can be a real concern and affect vision. Glad you're seeing someone today. Don't be surprised if he sends you to a specialist for the other end.
-
My gyny does thing it is shingles near my eye. He didn't seem all that concerned since I am on meds now. I called my pcp right now and he will get back to me. My face feels numb. Thanks for your input Wren.
-
Nancy, So sorry to hear this. Everything and now shingles.UNFAIR! I do hope it is not too severe and clears up soon. Yes you want to make sure that your eye is ok if shingles is there.
Teka, I love the cartoon!
Lisa. that sure is one strange but interesting bird!

this guy won't let anyone else use my swing
-
Lisa, he looks so cute and innocent.

I am feeling much better today. I took my last shingles oral med tonight. I still have the shingles rash and secondary rash but the itching is under control finally. I felt taking some pics today albeit from my dining room table but nonetheless that is a sign that I am feeling much better. Lots of activity at my heated birdbath today.I had a starling reunion in my backyard. There was probably a flock of maybe 60-70. It was pretty fascinating watching them fly in and out several times. Amazing how they can maneuver that trick with so many changing directions in nano seconds.
I was shooting this little guy who is now changed into his winter colors.
Then the starlings noticed my birdbath. Oh my gosh.
Then they flew away as this little junco (snow bird) patiently waited his or her turn.
Then all the birds flew away because this one flew in.
As I was shooting the hawk it flew. I put the camera down and this big bird was flying directly at me and my cat on the other side of the patio door. It got so close my cat jumped up and tried to get it. Of course it was on the outside and she was in the inside. I thought that thing was going to end up in my dining room. Clearly an intimidating tactic probably meant for my cat. So that was my excitement for the day.
-
you are right, you have a busy birdbath!! love it..
-
Yeah Lisa it is fun when it has water and then when it is frigid temps like it is now not so fun to go out there and replenish the water. I doesn't take many starlings to empty the thing in no time. I do love it though.
-
today's visitor
-
Nancy, it sure looks like they are having a great party in that birdbath!!
Lisa, I love the little finch with the twinkle in his eye!!
-
he is saying, "free food"
-
Today, I noticed a red-winged blackbird at the seed feeders. Probably will survive the frigid Winter. Cold enough now to hang the suet feeders!
-
The following photo was taken from on-line.
Unlike the following, we're in the Adirondack Mountains and get just a little lake-effect snow!

Hi there- my friend Teka invited me to come over here. I am a fan of birds, great and small. Next week I am going to a place here where the birds winter called Bosque Del Apache. I will come and share photos here!
-
Jazzy,Thank You!! ;o)
-
Meanwhile at the bird feeder.....
-
That isn't Teka! ;o)
-
Teka- yes, I know! This fellow was in my yard yesterday and spent a lot of time hanging out at the bird feeder. He sort of looks like your Teka though, yes? He is big, think he may be a Maine coon.....
-
I'm always running off cats from the seed and suet feeders!
-
A blustery winter day in Chicago area today. Have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Welcome Jazzygirl.
-
Love those. I haven't seen a cardinal for 45 years.
-
We've 2 pairs of cardinals coming to eat seeds. The males fight while the females get to fill-up! ;o)
-
Love the cardinal photos. They were my mother's favorite birds and we had lots of them in CT where I grew up. I miss them.
-
Thanks ladies. I am envious of the warm weather about now. I have lived in the Midwest my whole life and the four seasons are nice but winter would be fine with me if it lasted about four weeks! Unfortunately some years it is more like five months and I hope this is not going to be one of them. Today I joined our local Arboretum so I am hoping to have many more bird photo ops in the near future. Take care and Happy Thanksgiving.
Nancy

Nancy, I love the cardinals, especially when you see the pairs together, so sweet.
I too wish winter was just a month, just one nice pretty snowfall and done!! Our front door opens straight into the living room and getting anyone to come in through the side porch is not going to happen so there are all these indoor outdoor rugs when you walk in the front door and also in the entrance to my basement that I decorated. I still dread the snow and dirt from boots when I hear that snow blower going!! One winter DH broke his ankle and the floor remained clean in spite of a bad weather. Fortunately I was a bit fitter then and able to shovel.
