Hi there- not sure if this topic was already on the board but I am 2 years out from stage iii bc with 29 nodes removed of which 4 were positive. Question is in the past couple of weeks my under arm area is so itchy I could rip my skin off. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it a symptom of something coming back. I've been searching the discussion board and can't seem to find any info. Thanks for any info you can provide

I wonder if it is a symptom of your nerve endings being cut and you're healing but I am just guessing since you said you are 2 years out from surgery. When in doubt though, call your dr. to ask. They can at least shed more light on the subject for you.

I've had the same thing along with feelings of a stream of hot water running down the back of my arm, a numb straight line down the back of my arm, a numbness in the armpit, as well as just a golfball shoved in my armpit type feeling. I had surgery October 24th and a quite a bit of that has calmed down now. The hot water stream feel and numbness still occurs but the itching has stopped. Many times itching equals healing. My mastectomy scars itched and still do at times but it's because they are healing. I may be strange but that is how it works for me.

Again, I'd just call the dr. to ease my mind.

I'm a year out from DIEP recon and just during the last month the tissue around the abdominal incision has itched maddeningly.  It's an itching sensation way down in the tissues, impossible to scratch, and I'm positive it's nerve endings slowly growing back.

Angie, is the skin of your underarm at all numb?  One of the other DIEP ladies is a physical therapist, and suggested a tapping method that really helps.  Start tapping on the skin where your sensation is intact and gradually work your way into the numb areas.

And...call your doctor.  This doesn't sound like a malignancy issue to me, but reassurance would be nice.

Call your Dr and tell her/him what you are experiencing! No one here can tell you what you are personally dealing with, even if it might be similar to experiences.

It could be nerves regerating or a skin issue among other possibilities - only a Dr (or perhaps several, a Dermatologist maybe) can DX.

Everything that ever happens to any of us after DX,TX does not equate to recurrences or mets.
