Love that heron, Lizzysmom.

Thanks Nancy, DH said if we go back in the spring he will drop me off for the day and go find something else to do, so I may get a few hours which would be nice. Depends on the time of year I guess but I know they have a Japanese garden which I think would be interesting.
-
I took a day trip to Starved Rock State Park yesterday. Who knew at the top of Eagle's Ridge (which I thought I would die before getting there) I would find twelve pelicans on a log. I was really high up and very far away but that little 50x zoom worked out for this shot. I didn't realize they had some black under their wings. This is the place that Eagles come to roost during the winter. I am not sure about maneuvering all of those stairs in the winter but who knows when the time comes. -
Nancy, I am so glad the climb was worth it. What a nice surprise at the top and such a cute shot!! I wonder what they do if there are more. It must get cosy!! I have thought about getting the new powershot with the 60X zoom but can't really justify it as I have 3 cameras already plus various lenses. I am only working part time now but I do love cameras.......
-
Lizzysmom, There were other pelicans on shorter logs. LOL There was a heron among them too but those shots were not in focus. In some ways I wish I would have know in Aug. that the 60x zoom was coming out in Oct. However I don't regret all the fun I have had with it in the summer.
Hope you get to visit your place with the Japanese gardens with your DH giving you time to do your thing! That is why I wanted to take this day trip by myself. I didn't want to hold up anyone else while I was taking shots.
Looking at that pelican shot again reminds me of that reality show where they are trying to knock the person off the log. Maybe the pelicans do that too. LOL

Teka, I think I found your little guy's cousin -

This photo of a great blue heron was taken from on-line.

Nice shots Lisa
I have been bugging my DH for a copy of this bird that we saw in Peru. This bird is always in the dark parts of the forest so very hard to photograph. The Cock of the Rock (national bird of Peru)
-
Hoatzin
A great bird to post on Halloween. (Saw lots of them in South America)
-
great pix Mum..the one looks like his eyes are really weird..
-
Great shots ladies. Such interesting looking birds.
-
Lovely photos Lisa and Mumito and what a wonderful collection of birds.
That hoatzin is very strange, what I think Tyra Banks the model would call "ugly pretty". Its kinda cute!
Nancy, The pelicans made me think of a song from when I was small. Don't know if there is the same song here in US.
"There were 10 in the bed and the little one said 'Roll over, roll over" so they all rolled over and one fell out. There were 9 in the bed and the little one said "...... and so on.
-
Lizzysmom, The only thing remotely like that is when we would be on a looooooooooong bus trip we would sing 100 bottles of beer on the wall, then 99 so on. Not quite in the same class as yours though. LOL -
Thought this was also cute to post for Halloween😄
-
-
I hope the Chickadee isn't in there too!
-
Lyzzysmom, There's a current song about 5 little monkeys jumping on the bed. One fell off and hurt his head. etc.
-
Happy Halloween ladies. I love those cute owls and squirrels!!
-
The poor trick or treaters here will probably be flying in the wind whether they were dressed as witches or not! Snow flurries earlier and rain and high winds and snow predicted. My rose bushes are still in full bloom with buds even. Don't think at this rate they are going to last for much longer. I haven't got my heated bird bath up. I was out in the dark last night taking the rest of my fountain down. The birdbath attaches to the base of my fountain. I needed help and did it myself. If only I could train my cat to help out more!
Wren, I have never heard that one.
Love those owls too.

Can't resist my grandson is the cutest duck ever
-

Too cute😍
-
The best looking duck on this thread - too cute!
-
Oh Mumito. What a cutie!!
Nancy, I hope you got through the stormy weather ok. Its miserable and rainy here today. I so need to drag my banana plant off the deck into the living room tonight before there is a freeze. Its one big ugly plant and the living room is small!!
-
Mumito, your grandduck is a cutie pie!
-
Lizzysmom, It was so cold and windy yesterday and just right down miserable. I have a good email friend who lives in NY. She always says we'll get your weather the next day. Probably true a good part of the time. So I think you are now getting our yucky weather today. My GI issues have resurfaced again this week. I went to a couple of stores yesterday and came home and laid around for the rest of the day. It is sunny out today but cold. My birds will be happy. I put up their heated birdbath. In the midst of cleaning out some of my gutters that I can reach with a step ladder I seemed to have lost the screwdriver I needed for the bird bath. I had it in my hand. Famous last words. Then I lost a screw that anchors the birdbath to the base of my fountain. I did find it which is a miracle among all the leaves. Needless to say it was one of those ten minute jobs that turned into forty. Still never found the screwdriver and the kit that I just bought a year ago so I would never have to be looking for a screwdriver...........can't find that either. SCREAM One of those days.
It's time for a Dunkin' Donut coffee break. I don't eat sugar so no I won't be having any of their goodies. I wish. They have any sized coffee for $1.07 between 3-6pm. Yes, I am so cheap I will drive up in the parking lot sometimes at ten till three and WAIT. LOL
So off to my coffee break. Do you change clocks tonight to?. I know some states don't. Will your banana tree be residing indoors for the winter? I threw out two of my hibiscus with the garbage this week and my other two are probably going to have the same fate this week even though I have hanging geranium baskets in full bloom and my roses are still in full bloom. Go figure.
Well enjoy your extra hour if you get one.
Nancy

Nancy, I am sorry you GI issues have returned. I hope its only temporary and they disappear again. Its very difficult to know what is caused by these drugs and what isn't. I think I am going to start taking a multivitamin again as I keep feeling fatigued but was determined to get something done today other than just exercise and then veg out.
I did get the banana plant and another pot plant that does not like the cold in. The pots were so waterlogged I had to empty them in the pouring rain then cut off dead leaves before I brought them in. I put the banana plant in its large container on one of those big plastic trash bags, just for a day or so until it dries out and wont get the wooden floor all wet! It is looking rather sad.
I am sure those birds will be very happy with their heated bath. I just got a supply of the bricks of seed that they like and that are are easier than the bags. I put one in the feeder and within half an hour they were pecking away. Then I remembered that the clocks go back tonight so dawn will be earlier, which means that the banging at the bedroom window will be earlier too!
It must be nearly winter as we had some bananas (bought not from the plant) and I got the urge to bake banana bread as it was a nice warm indoor thing to do. I used to like cooking but have done less and less over the years as work became more stressful. I substituted Splenda for the sugar but I tried a piece and it seems OK, a little heavy as we only had wholewheat flour, no general purpose.
I got all the ingredients out then could not find a loaf pan, a bit like that screwdriver you were
looking for. I know I had a couple but I had no idea were they were.I hate looking for things and may have given up on the idea. Fortunately DH sells equipment and paper goods to
bakers and restaurants and had some in his car. Its like a mobile
warehouse and normally I hate it but today it worked out well!!He brought in Dunkin Donuts Coffee this afternoon, no donuts. I just mentioned the 3pm discount. Its not cheap at all. It makes sense! He loves getting a bargain and said , oh thats the AARP discount but its not on the latte that he likes so he asks for a senior discount, and depending on the store sometimes he gets one.
You enjoy your extra hour too and think of the birds pecking at the window at dawn LOL.
