Husband and wife have cancer at same time

While our cancers were not at the same time, they were close. In 2011-2012 my wife battled Triple negative breast cancer, she is 2 years out from diagnosis, so we are hopeful it will not come back, she went through a lot to hedge her bets. June of this year I was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme(GBM) Grade IV. She taught me how to fight and I taught her how to cry.

That is very touching, planobarryb. Keep fighting as well! -

I am so sorry to hear of you and your wife's diagnosis. I am sure it is very difficult for both you and your wife to go through.
One of the things that my husband and I always say to each other is that even though we wish this never happened at least we totally understand what the other is going through.
Hugs to you and your wife! -
Hi everyone.
I would love some positive thoughts ! My husband has completed his chemo for his stage 4 colon cancer and is having his first post chemo scan tomorrow! Praying that it is clear! -
Shoppygirl - My thoughts are with you & your husband!! Hoping for clean scans!!!! -
Hi Shoppygirl, I will keep you and your husband in my prayers!!
-
Shoppygirl, I will keep you and your husband in my thoughts and prayers. I know of a couple that both had cancer, but not at the same time. They documented their story here http://www.youtube.com/user/N2theFISHBOWL/videos. It broke my heart to see what they were going through but they remained positive throughout the process.
-
Hi shoppy girl - That is rough. This is not the same situation, but my dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer in January 2011. In July 2011, I moved back to my parents house (from 1000 miles away) to help care for him - my mother has dementia. So every month I took my mom and dad for his monthly appointment with his oncologist Dr. K. W. In April of 2012, I found a big lump & went in for an ultrasound & the tech did a biopsy right then and there and sent me into the next room to meet with a breast surgeon who told me this was cancer (didn't wait for biopsy results) and that he had set me up with a meeting with an oncologist for that afternoon - Dr. K.W. The next day I called one of my closest family friends who I have known since she was 3 and reconnected with when I moved home to tell her about my diagnosis. Turns out that she had had a stereotactic biopsy 4 days before and had received the diagnosis the day before & had been 'assigned' a tentative surgeon and oncologist - Dr. K. W.
My thoughts are with you and your husband - hope those scans come back clean. -
Thank you everyone.
He had the scan but we are going away so we won't get the results until Jan 2nd. He is not worried about it, he is a very positive person. I on the other hand am a huge worrier. If it was me I would be phoning every day for the results!!!!
All of his scans have been clear so far. I am praying that it will stay that way.
I will let everyone know!
Thanks again! Hugs to all !!

It is a big month for both my DH and I. He had his three month CT scan today and goes for a colonoscopy on April 23rd. Results of the CT are on April 24th. I go for blood work tomorrow and my 6 month check up on Thursday. Can't wait for April to be over !!
-
Sending good thoughts your way for a good 6 month check! Also, hoping all goes well with your husband. Be gone April!!
-
Thanks slowdeepbreaths
We got the results for my DH and he continues to be NED! I had my checkup and things are also good there too! Very happy !
-
congrats to you both!!
-
Awesome news

!!!!! -
thanks!!!😍
-
So here we are 6 months later and my DH just got the results of his ct scan and he is still NED! I feel like this is a miracle as a year an a half ago he was told that he only had a 40% chance of surviving 5 years. He has also not had any treatment in a year. The Dr said he has never seen a response like this! Looks like we will be dancing with NED together!!
Hugs to all!!
-
Wonderful news! So happy for you both and your kids!
-
I have a friend who had breast cancer and in about 2 months, her husband was found to have prostrate cancer. Both had surgery, she had radiation and they are both doing fine and its been about 5 years since this happened.
-
Thanks ladies!
Angelia, I love to hear stories like that!!
-
Great news shoppygirl!!
I'm so happy for both of you!!
-
Happy dancing

Hi Shoppygirl,
I was diagnosed with CLL on Oct 1st and on the 17th my husband was told by a thoracic surgeon that the masses throughout all his lungs are advanced cancer, not the blastomycosis he is being treated for . I am happy to find you as our friends are appauled and Im afraid to tell my siblings as yet. We await his biopsy early next week. I am blessed to be in the watch and wait category. I don't require chemo yet. My husband never smoked or drank, has had no symptoms whatsoever until he was febrile and admitted to hospital and treated for the blasto. This is just freaking crazy that it is happening out there to you and others as well. I see you are in Calgary.we are in NOrthern Ontario.
take care

I am so sorry that you are dealing with this . It is not easy and very scary.
I am not sure whst CCL is?
It is also so hard to tell people about it as they are so shocked snd then the worse part is the looks of pity!!! I can't stand that!!! Sometimes you end up consoling them.
Good luck to your DH on his biopsy. I would love to stay in touch with you to see how you guys are doing.
Hugs

hi again and thanks for the reply
CLL is Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia, if i have to have a leukemia thats the one to have
my survival timeframe is in the medium category which is 8 years but im not living by that and not complaining either!
when i read up on some of the other couples facing this i realized we are very blessed so far as we are indeed older than most of you---63 and 68...very healthy unitl this past summer so trying not to complain too loudly!
i am, however, really sick of reassuring everyone as you mentioned....I end up supporting all of my friends and Burns friends and family too
no one asks the patient how he is.... they ask me
grrrrrr.....thanks for the ear
Cheerfully ( sort of) yours,
Zoe

Yes.
I was diagnosed with testicular cancer in June of 2010 and then had a recurrence in November followed by surgery in Indiana. We got back home the week before Thanksgiving when my wife, 36 months pregnant, felt a lump in her breast. She was diagnosed with BC 3 days later.
We are in the middle of a serious relapse scare right now but are praying that we're not going to go through this again. Our son was young enough that he doesn't really remember and our daughter was a newborn at the time of her treatment. I coincidentally have my 6 month follow up this Monday (CT scan this time) and my DW has an MRI scheduled for Tuesday so we both will have scanxiety while trying to keep it together for the kids sake. I don't know how we will handle it if one of us comes back positive while the other is negative? Again, praying that the MRI is clear and it's just the pinched nerve that we have thought it was from a lifting incident 7 weeks ago (that is when the issue started).

I am so sorry you and your wife are going through this. I can totally understand as my DH and I were DX within 2 months of each other, 2 years ago. Sometimes I still can't believe it happened and I try not to tell too many people about as their reaction is just too much.
Scanxiety never realy goes away for anyone as it is your life depending on it. My DH has a ct scan comming up at the end of April so I am very anxious about that.
One of the things that I have found is that going through this together gives you such a deeper appreciation and respect for the other person. Although I would never wish cancer in anyone, including myself, that is the one positive thing about our similar situation.
I hope the scans go well for both of you and that all findings are benign.
Hugs to you and your wife.
