Gyno Questions

So, I'm planning on talking to MO about this at my visit on 11/6, but I thought I'd see what experiences I could hear about with ya'll.

Right before my dx last October I had gone in for a ultra-sound because of heavy periods. I visited with a gyno who wanted to do a procedure that would remove some of the lining of my uterus. Honestly I cant remember much because literally within weeks I found out I had BC and everything else was unimportant.

Okay so my question is how vigilent should I be now in regard to ovarian or any other lady part cancer now? Is this a higher probablity now that I've dealt with stage 3 BC and I'm on Tamoxifin? Should I get a referal from MO to see a gyno in regard to this?

Hi Tang - I hope you are enjoying the cooler weather. Your gyno prob was suggesting a uterine ablation. I had one about 9 years ago. While it did reduced the monthly bleeding it didn't go away. For some ladies their period does go away though. As far as ovarian cancer, as long as you're not brca pos your odds are that of the general population - I think about 2%. Tamox should not affect that. Regarding uterine cancer I asked a gynonc about it and he said Tamoxifen increases your risk from about 1 per thousand to about 2 per thousand  ( or was it per 100???).   Pretty low risk IMHO though my gyno is closely monitoring me. I think is is always good to have a good gyno. My onco suggested the one she goes to. That was a good enough referral for me! Take care my sister to the south. So glad the Ebola scare is calming down. My DD is an ER nurse, and we were mildly concerned about all the OU students returning from the OU/TX game.

    Yes...it was a uterine ablation!

I don't know about the genetic testing yet, I still need to do that and I guess that will be the big game changer in all of this.

The weather is cooler, but I'm ready for it to be alot cooler. :) And yes, I'm glad the ebola thing is calming down too. It was getting ridiculous. DD's school was one of the lucky ones to be closed because of it.

I don't think I'll need a uterine ablation now, I haven't had a period since right after my first chemo :) That was last FEB! I'm wondering if it will even come back at this point.

hi tang, i second lucy's suggestion about having a gyn. I had not seen one in about eight years prior to my dx, but my breast surgeon said it was a good idea to start seeing one annually so that you could address any issues (like spotting) should they arise.
