Title : Newly diagnosed - How did you find out you had breast cancer and how was

the diagnose delivered to you ?

Hi everyone, I have been diagnosed with breast cancer and my journey so far is quite "unconventional" and I really look forward reading your posts and sharing our experiences.   My diagnosis so far is Ductal Carcinome In Situ with possible invasion, I decided to delay my surgery that was scheduled this Monday because of many reasons, the first one because I want to get a second opinion and also because I have been running a low fever and have really enlarged lymph nodes and will see my family doctor tomorrow for this.

Even though I have been through a lot medically in my life (and my daugther too) and that I have survived and even surprised myself with many outcomes...I am so scared. I have been faced with death "sentences" by some of my doctors many times in the past and have been able to let go of the fear of dying when I was much younger. But now...I am just scared...scared of not being there for my daughter, scared of many things I was not before and I repeat to myself everyday day that everything is going to be OK , that I will, with patience, faith and determination, find the right medical team. And even if I even been recognized for my resilience, courage and humility...I can't help being scared and angry at how my situation has been handled so far.

I am convinced that many of you have gone through the "cycle" of acceptance and that even if you did have faith and hopefully a good surgical team and support, that at some point you had your doubts.

I hope that my journey here will both be helpful for you and for me. And that I will be able to share my progress towards welcoming my fears and angers (bits by bits) and eventually, let go, like I have done so many times in the past.

Oh! And I have had complications with my biopsy and learned from my gynecologist on my answering machine that I had cancer with very little concern and since then have had made several calls and discussed how everything was going with my family doctor who approves of my doubts.  After talking with a wonderful and empathetic women at the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation I was put in contact with an oncology nurse. They are telling my that my cancer was taken at the right time, but at the same time, I feel push to accept a surgery.  Only 1 month has gone by between the follow up mammo and echo + biopsy + suggested surgery. I could go on and on on my experience, and would love to hear your stories.  Will gladly share the rest in another post.

Thank you for taking the time to read and reply to me, I am already grateful to know that this community exists.

    Take Care.
    A.

you may want a second opinion.

I have DCIS, did lumpies and 7 weeks of radiation and all clear for the last 6 years.  I chose MO and RO at a big hospital close to my office as I needed to work through it all

My surgery was with one of the best BS in NJ and at a dif hospital near my home.  The BS was were my primary care doc (who used to order my mamos and who I called when my mamo showed shitty)  DCIS does not mean you need to rush into things just that you need to address it.  Take time to ask questions and get the best docs in your area

you need docs who will talk to you and who you can ask questions of.

yeah, it is scary but less scary when you get your team set, feel free to PM me if you want

oh yeah, yoga and the gym help in tons of ways to keep my BP and nerves in gear!

If you go to the 'Diagnosed and Waiting For Results' forum you will find a thread 'How did you find yours' where there are several posts (24 I think) from women about their DX time.  The latest post is on Oct 18th, so you won't have to s scroll down far to get to it.
