Blessings and Meow - I totally, completely agree. Having a mamm. doesn't prevent cancer. Exercising may feel good but it doesn't prevent cancer.
And then we're supposed to embrace the 'journey' as a chance to learn more about ourselves, our strengths, how gracious we can be through the worst of times, etc., ad nauseum. Some of the 'meditations to fight cancer' even instruct us to thank our body for teaching us to let go of unrealistic standards for ourselves, blah, blah, and tell the cancer that we have learned what we need to go and it can go now.
Can you believe this stuff??? And these are recommended by support group facilitators, etc.
No way - I refuse to buy into that message and I refuse to go along with the expectation that I'll be grateful for having taken this journey. No way, no how. It just makes it worse for those who come after us, in my humble opinion.
End of rant, at least for the moment.

2nd time around, thank you for posting Pink Ribbons, Inc. I watched it two years ago. Was moved by it then and again when I watched it. I sent the link to several of my friends. Breast cancer isn't pretty and it isn't pink.

Oh boy now Washington state has a new pink ribbon next to mount rainier on a license plate. I hope I don't get stuck behind a BC awareness car or truck.

I am torn sometimes. I have a friend who is a survivor of an aggressive cancer (9 years+). She leads a support and is great at what she does. She also dresses in pink all the time. She sent me a pink ribbon and some other pick items after my diagnosis. I get why some other people sent me those things, but was surprised to get them from her. She obviously has embraced the pink.

Meow - I can't remember... was it on this thread that I posted the pic of the "Pink Winnie?" Now THAT'S something you don't want to get behind. If not, I'll post a pic.

Mini1 - when I know someone loves me and is thinking of me and is expressing that love by sending some pink ribbon tchotchke, I just say "Thank you."
My educational posts are usually generic and kind, when I know my audience is family and friends who genuinely care about me. I want to educate them gently, not punish them for their ignorance.
My true rants are to public entities like corporations, vendors, and unscrupulous "charity" telemarketers who do not deserve my holding back.
I do know that there are huge numbers of breast cancer survivors who DO embrace the pink. I can't fault them for that. It just makes me sad. I always loved pink, and most of the clothes in my closet were pink. Now I rarely wear them. They just make me feel like the Poster Child for Breast Cancer.

Yikes, the Breast Cancer Site on Facebook posted a picture of these tacky cupcakes. There are a lot of negative and positive replies. Thanks for making me aware that many of us don't have nipples.

That's not appropriate for them. Find at times, they are surprisingly tacky. Plus, "Construction" not Reconstuction?

Last year when I walked into the cancer center I was met with a wall full of ginormous bras- honestly, my head would fit in the cups - that had been garishly decorated. I asked the person checking me in if they planned on having a giant wall full of brightly decorated jock straps on display. Not surpisingly, the answer was no. And I've yet to see a Save the Nads t-shirt. They talk about "fighting like a girl," but we need to fight like men. They wouldn't tolerate this BS.

Well, it appears that yesterday was the Komen race on Daniel Island, (Charleston, SC). I fail to see how these things promote breast cancer awareness, when they seem to mainly promote BREASTS....
AND.... was this a breast cancer awareness event, or a rainbow pride event?
