thank heaven for my pharmacist! I am facing a delay in chemo (6-8 weeks) due to a mastectomy wound that's not healing properly.  My local medical oncologist prescribed Tamoxifen this afternoon.  Pharmacy would not fill because apparently there is some sort of reaction between the two.  Really worried!  I'm sure onc just mistakenly prescribed this particular medicine.  Wellbutrin is on my list of meds that I turned in to her.  What do you do?  I hear it takes a while to taper off of Wellbutrin.  Is there anyone that's been in my place?

is there an antidepressant to take along with Tamoxifen or is there another drug similar to Tamoxifen that works with Wellbutrin

I was on Prozac and Wellbutrin when diagnosed.  While going through chemo I researched the drug interactions and both have strong drug interactions.  The are all metabolized the same in the liver.  I was tapered off both by my psychiatrist and put on Effexor.  I have been on Effexor over 3 1/2 years now and I have done well plus it helped with the hot flashes!

I was on Prozac before starting T, also I know T is contraindicated w Wellbutrin. My onc had me stop the Prozac for three days, then start the Effexor. It was not a problem at all. Good luck! Glad your pharmacist caught it.

PS I didn't stop the Prozac for two weeks after starting T because I wanted to be sure I tolerated the Tamoxifen. I'd made the mistake of starting T and Celexa at the same time a year earlier and it was a disaster, I could not tell what was a side effect of what.

Thanks for all of the feedback.  My medical oncologist went a different route and called in a med that I can take along with Wellbutrin.  The drug is Fareston.  Does anyone have any experience with this?
