Is blood test necessary for Lupron shot?

Hi All,

My wife will be getting monthly lupron shots till she gets the oophorectomy. Our MO said she will need to get blood tests done whenever she gets a shot. Is this necessary? What exactly do they check when they do the blood tests for this?

Apparently it can cause liver problems, decreased white blood cell count & kidney problems among other things, so yes, I would think monitoring is necessary.

I am on Lupron and the only blood test I've ever had is before hand to decide whether I was pre-menopausal. Different dr's order different tests though.
