tamoxifen and weight
Ok, I know there are other threads about tamoxifen, but I only want this thread to be about one issue.
Did you gain or lose weight while taking tamoxifen?
The side effects list weight LOSS and this seems odd since it seems to me more women complain about gain.
So please comment and say whether you gained or loss, please.

Weight loss, what a load of hogwash!!! Almost everyone gains weight on it. And most find that all the healthy eating and exercise in the world has no effect on this.
Like the hot flashes and muscle cramps and joint pain, we are supposed to just put up with all this misery in exchange for lower risk.

While I have some annoying side effects on Tamoxifen, weight gain is not one of them. I've lost about 5 pounds since starting on it; but I've also increased my exercise and eat fewer carbs. There seems to be somewhat of a pattern to the comments about Tamoxifen and weight. Women who are not post-menopause seem to experience weight gain more than those of us who are older. I am 62. Not sure what to make of it.

gain - definitely
Premenopausal

The first 6 months or so I lost 40 lbs without really trying (no appetite, had to force myself to eat) In the 20 or so months since, I've gained all of it back and maybe 30 lbs more, it doesn't seem to matter how careful I am the weight is just piling on.

Oh gosh... I just got a scrip for that and...like Cindyl I have lost 25lbs from the stress. I asked my onc if I'd gain and he said maybe. I thought working out would help!
(Sorry, I know not an answer to your question but this is one of my questions too!)

Thanks ladies!! I too have the script, just haven't started it yet! The chemo steroids packed on the pounds and I've had no luck getting them off and I sure don't need the tamoxifen to add even more!!
Please keep posting ladies! However, I am 50 and I am post menopause due to complete hystorectomy in 2008!

I started tamoxifen premenopausal. I gained about 10 pounds, but the most frustrating thing is that it seemed impossible to lose weight. I exercised and tracked my calories on My Fitness Pal. I would eat 1200 a day, exercise, and never lose a pound. It was very frustrating! In June I started Nutrisystem and cut my calories closer to 900 a day and I'm happy to say I have lost 17 pounds.

I've been on Tam since June. Have managed to maintain, although I have been trying to lose. I am post-meno. I usually only eat one meal a day and have small snacks the rest of the time. Frustrating!

Tamoxifen can increase blood sugar which happened to me. I found I had to really decrease carbs to lose weight, kept calories about the same. Probably ate a little less on low carb too.
