missed a pill
I prepare my med box a month in advance. Recently I had a change of insurance mandated mail order pharmacies. This company does things differently than the one I've had for the past few years so getting my prescriptions has been a hassle to say the least. Today I noticed that my Arimidex was missing from the Wed. slot in the box. I then looked at the rest of the week and there are no Arimidex in any of the slots. I'm usually very good at keeping up with my meds but this time I completely screwed up. I have no idea how many I may have missed. My life has been kind of chaotic lately and I've just been dumping the pills directly into my mouth and washing them all down at the same time. I've put in a call to my onc and another call to the mail order pharmacy. Mail order pharmacy says it will be 10 days until I get my order. Onc's office hasn't called me back yet. I've never missed a pill in over three years and I'm in a panic. My question is - just how bad is it to miss a pill or even a few pills?

You will probably be fine. Many of us have taken MO approved breaks from taking our AI drug for several weeks, because of SE's. You have been on it for 3 years, so a week or two off of it should not have much effect.

Thanks, I feel better now. I wish I could say that the Arimidex side effects went away for a few days but no such luck. I will be so glad when my 5 years is up. I will not be going on for another 5 unless there is absolute proof that it will prevent a recurrence. I'd like a few years to enjoy myself before I get too old to do so.

don't worry! I think I took a month off at about 3 yrs, when I thought i couldn't take it any longer. Se's you are having now fade after a while - like the carpal tunnel I developed at about 6 months that finally just went away. when my 5 years was up I was sure there'd be a big discussion with my onc re do I now have to do 5 MORE years? Nope, out of the question. She is mainly a researcher & said at that point (last December) there was no proof at all that more yrs was better. I was so happy!!! and you will be too. Hang in there, knowing you've done your best.

I'm not a doctor (glad you're checking with yours) but...I chose to take a break from tamox for awhile (I've since restarted). My MO said there is no evidence that short breaks result in different outcomes. But...for me, she is still recommending 5 years total, so I get to tack on the extra time at the end. Good luck! Hope your doc has helpful info for you.

I'm not on an AI yet, but should be postmeno soon. I'm afraid to ask my onc if she recommends the ten year. For now ignorance is bliss. Anywho initially when I was struggling with tamox I looked up the half life on Drug.com and it is really long, like ten days. Perhaps it is similar for AI's.
