oh and gold, you mentioned skipping the energy bar because of the soy. Have you found your way to pickybars yet? Soy free, and all of the ingredients are things you can pronounce. I think they are pretty tasty after a hard workout. I buy them online, though depending on where you live you might be able to get them at a running store or outfitter. Again, congrats!
-
so we think we figured out what the reactions are from..the wellbutrin i was taking to quit smoking (yes i run do roller derby and smoke) We looked it up.. everything i was having can appear 3-4 weeks after starting the meds.. which was to the date of when i started it. Called the on call doc today she told me to quit taking them. hives faded yesterday. woke up with them on my feet today but very lightly. but whew.. we think we figured the cause
lx in the am.. i guess they make the final call if they will still work on me or not. still anxious but that is also a se of wellbutrin. I mean Im nervous.. but a healthy amount of nerves.. but im reacting like Im going to give a public speech on tv or something
just had a nice social dose of chatting with our neighborhood potluck today .. convinced people to join me on my 5k sun since i will obviously be walking it
hehe Im such a bad influence . Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend

lovestorun, I will definitely look up pickybars! worth it to know what is in things. My return flight was waitlisted for Business upgrade and it cleared at the gate (poor TV celebrity missing his upgrade, though, and sitting behind me in Economy), so I then faced the meal ordering on the airplane with the same trepidation. Fortunately, the two choices left included one that was all allergen free for me. Arrived home stuffed and relaxed, not quite ready for back-to-school, but definitely feeling the humidity oncearunner mentions.
Amazingly, my legs feel okay, and I was climbing stairs at the park this morning, and the airport tonight. The Garmin had recommended recovery until late Tuesday night, if I recall correctly. That might not be far off. But I think I am going to lose a toenail. I did not realize until midway into the Half that the nails were a little long (the polish had not chipped and I hate to waste a nice paint job). The nail on the longest toe was looking wobbly and swollen/red all around the nail. I put a bandaid over it to prevent it catching on sheets, socks, etc. and taped it to the next toe, but I fear the bugle is playing Taps for the nail.
panthrah, good detective work. Hope that turns out to be the explanation and you can get on with making adjustments. I was taking "vitamin V" during the year I waited between mx1 and mx2/DIEP, prescribed by the dentist for the toll the stress was taking on my teeth. Dr said she would have prescribed something more modern than valium, and that the half-life was pretty long and hard to discontinue them, but it seems that 12 hours of anaesthesia is a pretty good way of flushing all manner of crap out, so it all worked out in the end.

Hi What a great topic. I have just finished my last radiation treatment today. I have been able to run thru the majority of my treatment, had to miss a couple runs due to the heat. I am currently training for the Corning Wineglass Half Marathon. Has anyone done this one before? I have a great running group of 10 people that have run together for the past 4 years, we are at different paces and distances but we all start together and get together after for coffee. This group has kept me motivated to get out the door on the most difficult days and for this I am so grateful. Its so easy to get caught up in the BS of Breast Cancer. I belong to the Running Room here in Canada so have been following the 10 and 1 running program for a long time. I did have to cut my intervals down to 5 and 1's due to the fatigue and am definetly slower but its working for me so I will continue and hopefully my energy levels will come back some day. Also doing the Wine N Dine in November and am a Coast to Coaster this year. Hoping all of you the best in your training and races/runs/walks

welcome tango58! Another Ontarian and another runDisney fan! lovestorun can get your upcoming runs up on the calendar and we can cheer you on too!
For anyone interested, I just saw a tweet that the 2015 Tink Half is NOT sold out -- just 88% full and price goes up tomorrow. If anyone was deliberating on that one... It's a nice course, and would knock off my 2015 Coast to Coast in May, but I like having the DLHM to look forward to rather than dreading the back-to-school so will probably stick to my current cycle.

Luv the new photo Gold.
Hey Tango. Loveto..those picky bars look great and their FB page is full of great photos and inspiration.
Glad you figured out the issue Pant. And wishing you well as you head into surgery tomorrow.
Still walking. Today was a beast due to the humidity. I have been averaging 4 miles per walk at a moderate pace of 3.5 to 4.0 mph.
Continuing to live vicariously through this thread and some friends I have on FB.
xoxo to all
Happy Trails

welcome tango58! That's terrific that you've been able to run through most of radiation, and congrats on today being your last day! Woohoo! I have you down for Wine N Dine and Wineglass (have heard such great things about that one). When and where is Coast to Coast?
Piper - that's terrific! Four miles is super!! Go Piper, go Piper! And yes, picky bars. Lauren Fleshman is the bomb. I love this post of hers on body image: http://asklaurenfleshman.com/2013/11/keeping-it-real/
Panthrah & Jen hope things went well today. Let us know how you are. -
The Coast to Coast is an extra medal Disney gives you if you do in the same year one of their Half or Full's at Disneyland and one at Disney World. I did the Tinkerbell Half in California this January and loved it. And am doing the Wine n Dine Half in November. Did the Goofy in 2013 and my running partner wants me to train with him for the Dopey in 2016. We will see about that one.
-
This year was my fifth consecutive Coast to Coast. I need another one like a hole in the head, but I am hooked, beyond help!
And I have one run on each coast still to come this year - you just can't get two C2C in the same year. (Except if you did Princess and Tink in addition to one other half or longer on each coast, you can also get the pink C2C as a second one -- however, Princess and Tink are the two I did NOT do.)
Wine and Dine is a great run. I love starting at night, and I like that there is more park time in that course than the Donald and Princess. It's essentially the same as the Mickey marathon minus the Donald half. Sometimes I have energy to eat and drink my way through the F&W festival afterwards and sometimes I don't. I usually eat up my gift card carb loading the day before anyway. (Belgian waffles!)
Good luck panthrah and Jen. Great going, piper!

I survived * happy dance* they gave me a xanax.. that knocked me on my butt.. wow. I told my mom not to show up cause she nearly crashed taking me to the mri.. told her id call her when i got home.. noope sneaky mom showed up in the recovery room . snuggled with my stitch pillow pet , hubby got me a mario brothers sippy cup ( yes we are dorks), he put on my disney 5k medal on me and put on Brave cause I was so "Brave" today. so over all not too bad at all.
Because Ive done a few mud runs, I have lots of wet wipes things so ill be taking a wipes bath later
also for you Run Disney folks... the fb pg. Happiest Runners on Earth always has good updates on the disney races, merch, medals, etc.
Now me and netfix have a date for the week
-
Good news, panthrah! Enjoy the rest. You will be up and walking in no time but rest for now.
-
welcome tango58, congrats on being done your radiation. If your skin gets really irritated in the next couple of weeks and you want to run, I found that a cotton t-shirt under my sports bra worked great. I know that typically "cotton is rotten" but it got me out for a few runs when my skin was a little raw and still healing. Passing this along in case you had not thought about that.
Panthrah - yay for being out of surgery. Glad to hear that everything appeared to have gone well. Enjoy the movies.
Jenwith4kids - I hope you are recovering quickly.
Sandpiper1 - whoo hoo on the walks, I'm sure you will be back to running in no time!
All this talk about the Coast to Coast medal makes me want one but I don't think it is in the cards for 2015. I promissed my husband that our next trip would not be running related and that was a couple of years ago! Every trip we have done since then included a race, he's been really good about I think it's time to plan a non running trip. I'm not sure I know how to do that though
-
Yeah.. I dont do so well at this "rest" thing. When I broke my ankle I was still trying to put laundry away and do dishes. Today Im unattended....must refrain from doing to much. *plans sundays race outfit*
-
Happy to report: My first infusion went smoothly yesterday. Except for dry mouth and C, I don't have any other side effects yet. I was able to sleep thanks to Ativan. So I went for a run about 2 miles! I'm feeling great! I need to go get Neulasta shot this afternoon. I feel a bit nervous. I hope side effects are manageable...
-
way to go ladies!
-
I hear you panthrah on the rest thing. I find it hard also. Would have gone for a run today but I had a horrible sleep if you could call it that. I am going to take my Tamoxifen in the afternoon instead of bed time and see how that goes. I am tired when i go to bed but then am wide awake for hours. Not the usual for me. Oh well its way to hot here today anyways the weekend is supposed to be cooler. Have my long run Sunday 12km.
-
To all you experienced marathoners out there, I know the following to be true. I guess I just need validation.
Did a 16 mile run this morning. It's very hot and humid here today. It was about 75 degrees when I started with my running partner at 6:00 AM. The first 11 miles or so were ok - kept drinking and fueling. By then the sun was up and the last 5 miles for me were just miserable. It was the whole walk, jog thing until the end, although my running partner who is 6 years younger than me (not that that REALLY matters) was still going strong. Those last 5 miles were just miserable for me. Now that I'm home, I had a protein smoothie, a bagel, lots of water and Gatorade and I'm feeling more human.
I'm assuming that most of my misery was due to the heat. My marathon is 6 weeks away and by then it should be much more comfortable around here. Can I do this??????
-
LuLu
Not a marathoner, but wow girl did you do fantastic considering the humidity.
GO GIRL!!!!!!
You know race day is a day of nerves and eventually just going with the flow and enthusiasm surrounding you.
Heck I ran 5 miles on a very bad sprain at last years 10 miler. I think you got this girl!
Just my 2 cents. for what it is worth.
-
You go, Lulu! I don't go past 13 mi either, but you made it through the 16 miles with 6 more weeks to train, and I think piper is right -- the adrenaline and cheerfulness of the actual race day will be a shot in the arm. By that point in October, the temperatures will be more run-friendly for sure. You're doing great!
The brief heat wave broke here last night, and what a difference it made. The humidity was worse than it felt with the hotter temps at Disneyland. I did just a short run to loosen up today because I've rested since Disneyland and my legs were cramping (and because I didn't have enough calorie space on My Fitness Pal for the dinner I was planning!) It was very comfortable in short sleeves. (If it could just stay like this and not become winter, that would be just fine with me. We had such a hard winter and a long-sleeve summer.)
-
Thank you, sandpiper & goldlining. I feel better all ready with your words of encouragement.
-
LuLu - no expert, but 2 fulls and 9 half marathons under my belt. Yes, yes yes you can do this! Yesterday was horribly hot and humid - us East Coasters were blessed with a wonderfully mild summer which means you aren't acclimated to the heat! 6 weeks - you've got this!
One of the better pieces of running advice I've gotten -- when you have that horrible self-doubt slog of a run, take it, fold it up, and put in your running toolbelt. If things go wonky on race day, you can pull it out and say to yourself, "self, see I did much worse than this. It was yuck and it was hard but I got through it. I can do this."
And agreed, there is something magical about the crowds and volunteers - they help us move a little faster and keep going. At least they do me.Rest today, take in those electrolytes, foam roll (OUCH!)....YOU CAN DO THIS!
-
oh and FWIW, I had 8 on my schedule for yesterday morning. Consumed all of the fluids in my fuel belt. There was ALOT of walking towards the end. Can't even imagine doing 8 more. Good for you for getting it done!
-
LUV YOU GIRLS!!! xoxo Thanks!
-
whew.. another "5k" this morning. I quote this because 1. had to park wicked far away and walk to the starting line. 2. do the race which past our car and then doubled back to the start 3. then had to walk back to the car. sooo oooh just a tad more than a 5k
. boob isnt ready for bouncing so we walked all of it. and wow was already 80 at 8am.. very hot. It was the aloha 5k
lots of grass skirts and leis and hula girls and lilo and stitch outfits
and at the beach. got dole fruit cups and bananas and oranges at the finish. free Kind bars and power milks and hawaiin foods and tunes and loooooots of massage tables! Ive never seen so many!! we got an iced coffee and started the walk back to the car. and in an hr Ill pick up my 2nd oldest brother (Im THE oldest.. hes 20) and take his Michigan butt to In and Out .. a California staple food :P
Lulu- my 2 cents... make a good playlist and you can do anything
I pick things with a beat that i can pace too and just rock out. If Im with friends.. I only wear the right ear and she wears her left ear, so we have one open ear to communicate or sing together
and always at the half way mark we bust out with 'ooOoooooo we're half way therrrrre... oooooOOOOO Living on a prayer.." and it always gets the people around us either joining us or giggling
-
LuvLuLu - yes, you can so do this! I've ran marathons on a lot less training that what you seem to be doing so I'm sure you will be fine. As a few others have said, it should cool off in the next six weeks and that humidity has been such a drain on our runs. When I ran the Ottawa marathon in 2013, my last long run (20 miles) was brutal. It took everything I had to finish. It was one of the first hot Sundays of the year and things started going downhill at about the 14 mile mark. Then on race day we had a nice mild day and I got a Personal best. All this to say that your training runs can be very different than your race. Plus just think about how you are getting your sucky runs out of the way now so that race day is great
As far as my sucky runs go, I'm so glad the humidity broke over the weekend. It was nice and cool this morning when I went for my run. I started off with a long sleeve shirt which I took off half way through. This was one of my best runs all summer. I didn't have the weird heart rate thing going on and I was running faster without feeling the effort. I'm so happy it went well, I was starting to freak out a bit. I needed this as a confidence booster. I think my heat tolerance went down the tubes in the last year. Either that or the tamoxifen is leaving my body. I guess I'll find out when I start it back up again in a few weeks.
Aloha75 and estel - I hope your races went well this weekend.
Panthrah - sounds like your event was quite fun and well organized. I'm sure you will be back to running in no time.
-
What a lovely day today. The heat is gone and was able to get my 12km done.
-
You ladies are awesome....
enuf said!

I was at a run expo in Toronto (forget which one - we have two "warring marathons" competing for entrants here) and they had a running psychology booth, in addition to the positive talk and visualization, they were giving out little bits of "finish line" ribbon on a safety pin. They said pin that on your fuel belt and touch it to remind you to visualize the finish. I've never needed to use that in an event, but I keep it on one of the pouches on the fuel belt and will notice it when I'm setting out my stuff the night before. I think it's a cool idea.
Congrats for all the good outings this weekend, all!
-
I did the Toronto Good Life Marathon last year and the pyshcing team were giving out pieces of the finish line tape. I think its a great idea I attached it to my bib.
-
A lot of motivation is the large breakfast I will eat when Im done. " mmm should i have pancakes? ooh IDK.. what about waffles? " mainly.. as long as Im distracted..I wont notice that Im doing a race
