Hi,

Does anyone take magnesium along with arimidex.  I am suffering with blocked eustachian tubes in my ears after being exposed to a loud bang.  Six weeks of misery with constantly pressured ears and everything sounding echoey and loud.

It has been hell when we just wanted a bit of peace after the stress of last year.  Anyway I have been told magnesium can relax the muscle which has apparently gone into spasm and is causing my problems.  I am very wary of taking a anything that could  Interefere with my arimidex.  I have been taking it now for over a year so want to make sure magnesium is safe

Anyone take both

Maria

Your pharmacist where you get your arimidex should be able to tell you if magnesium interferes. They are generally very knowledgeable.

Too much magnesium can cause diarrhoea so would recommend a decongestant.I had a ruptured ear drum a year ago. This long w/antibiotic drops. Did you see a Dr about it as your ear drum may burst also.

I have been on Arimidex more than 9 years now. Last year or so, I started taking supplemental magnesium to help with leg cramps. I haven't had problems with diarrhea, (but I would certainly back off if it developed). Magnesium definitely helps the leg cramps, but I haven't heard of using it for your ear problem. What does your ENT say?

    hi maria,

I have been taking arimidex since April and taking 400mg/day of magnesium for over 10 years. My doctor said there would be no problem taking the  two and it might help with muscle cramping, which I seldom have unless I forget  the mag.

    Hope this helps.  Marianne

Maria26 - I have taken Magnesium for years along with my calcium supplements. I continued to take it while on Arimidex, with my MO's approval. There was no interaction.

Dosage varies with each person's tolerance. Yes, it can cause diarrhea, but that's usually when you hit your maximum dosage level. In that case, just cut back on the daily mg. These days I take 250 mg, but I've also taken 500 mg. Ask your doc.

I was fascinated (and sorry) to hear about noise-induced muscle spasm in the Eustachian tube. My undergraduate degree is in Audiology, and I don't remember studying that at all.

The suggestion for taking a decongestant (the old standby is Sudafed - the kind you have to ASK for these days) and a decongestant nasal spray isn't bad... that's generally the first line treatment for a blocked Eustachian tube.

Just remember that both the pills and the spray contain a form of ephedrine and can raise blood pressure and affect your heart rate, as well as cause problems with glaucoma and other issues. And if the blockage is entirely due to muscle spasm, then those treatments wouldn't help.

Are you seeing an ENT or a Neurotologist?

Hope this all passes soon for you!!!
