    Abigail...I'm so sorry to hear about the tragic significance of this day. Losing a loved one is always sad. Perhaps sadder when it is so tragic.please do not rule out contacting your Congress person. good luck.

    Every citizen of this country is eligible for Medicare at age 65. My husband and I signed up, no problem. I'm sorry but so much on this thread simply does not add up.

    hi yorkie.  I don't get social security & I never noticed that I had to sign up at age 65.  in fact I will now have to pay a 10% fine for every year since I was 65 when/if I finally get medicare.    & yorkie I do wonder why you & your friends unlike others who are supporting, never talk to me my my name.  which actually is my name

    hi michele.  I like her actually.  her name is christie? gillebran  sp sp?  & I voted for her because she phoned me in person for my vote way back when & even though I hate phone calls.  she has become a big deal since, & no wonder.  I will keep that in mind.  she actually might be able & willing for me to get the ins sooner than a year.  beaurocrats are so dumb, I figure if I'd been given long term care ins 5 years ago I'd have paid in =/- 32000 by now with no outlay on their part.

    well michele I pray a lot.  (say mantra), don't smoke anything, don't drink except recently I found a tomato sauce with wine.  all the other organics had fennel.  no sex now for what 37 years ( except in sleep, ie no longer auto erotic either.}

    I guess all that counts a bit anyway.  I am a bad gossip, I end up knowing so many secrets, unasked for, that I crave to tell  but can usually resist.

    I live in the catskill mts, have now for 40 years.  am known as "harmless"  Ie crazy but won't hurt you

    voracious.  appreciate the wishes, I always wanted to meet my true-love & knew immediately when I did.  also knew within an hr or so that he was ephemeril, he'd had such a trahma just after he was 5 years old he hadn't wanted to live after that.  but we were friends for almost 24 years so I guess I got my wish after all

    Abigail...I live in NY too. Kirsten Gillibrand is the NY US Senator. You can contact her too. However, I find, your local Congress person's office is usually more effective.  Furthermore, my neighbor signed up late and wasn't penalized.  If you read carefully, it says you " may" be penalized.  You may also qualify for other subsidized services.  Also, call your local American Cancer Society and see if they can help.  

    I also donate to Angel Flights NE.  If you need a consultation with a hematologist that is far away, they are a volunteer organization of pilots who get needy patients to hospitals.

    Wow Abigail, it must be beautiful where you live and inspirational. I would love to live in such beauty. Would consider myself nomadic. If I had a fifth wheel I would travel to such places.

    I am 46 and on ssdi, my dr appts keep me local. 

    Aside from what other people's opinion are, I understand. Going with conventional treatment has caused my body harm and now seeing dr's because of it.

    I gave up a great career in the oil business because of this disease. If I make 77, I will think of you. 

    I think for the most part, many of us want to see you well. Do you have a vehicle to get around?

    office for the ageing which I was told would be of great help was no visible help at all & my contact there retired soon after.  & that phone call with the ssi was useless, even with the realmails I sent I apparently wasn't understood.  don't knowwho my local congressperson but I was in contact with kristin, & realized although I hate phone calls an intelligent person was on the other end of the line.  she won't remember me but will understand my concern.  I have a helper of 15 years who gets my groceries to me.  I live a couple of miles from the po & store.  I inherited the vehicle we bought after the other was totaled in the accident which killed him, but I still don't drive.  my concentration is such that I fear I would injure someone if I were to take up the tallent

    someone asked if it smelled.  I tape a half a trimmed zip-lock bag over the dressing to curtail any blood, honey or smell, & to protect my clothes.  a woman on this board told me about that.  she works & commented on the difficulty of changing a dressing in a work-place bathroom.  "you can imagine". and I can

    If that's the case why are people healing themselves with stage 4 cancers.  Why are there so many cancer healing centers in Nevada, Arizona, Mexico, etc.  That are using natual approaches, and people are getting better.  I worked in the natual health industry for 15 years.  I can't tell you many stories u have heard about people healing themselves through natural means.  Now, I am a big proponent in aligning yourself with an I tegrative Dr. Or naturpath who can guide you.  But when someone has stage 4 cancer, western medicine has very little to offer.  How dare you say its all rubbish.  Its there only hope.  Success stories are countless.  I guess ignorance isn't always bliss.

    stage IV here, three years and counting. Living a fairly normal life, using conventional medicine as are so many on the stage IV forums. Pretty darned happy about it.

    Abigail...I was the one who recommended that you contact your politicians.  If you made a copy of the letter, please send it to your STATE senator.  You can also call them.  You can also call the governor's office.

    Please let us know how you make out.

    Inga, that the treatment centers stay in business does not necessarily mean that they are worthwhile or do any good. One does not logically follow the other.

    If people feel they are out of options, they might try anything, thus keeping these clinics in business.

    I I kept 2 copies, vaoracious, brecause I didn;t send the original to gibson with return request.  will see if I can do the research for the senator.  I think that is gilbrain (?) now I will have to vote (for gibson) It will be my 2nd vote forever for a republican.  & I do need time to voraciously read

    Abigail...Kirstin Gillibrand is your US senator. She represents you on the Federal level of government in Washington.  Although, President Obama mandated health insurance coverage...it is each state's responsibility to create exchanges.  Aside from Medicare that is funded and administered through the Federal government, all other health insurance including Medicaid are done on the STATE level.  So you need to find out who your STATE legislators and STATE senators are.  They represent you in Albany.  They are the ones whom you should be addressing.

    To enroll, call 1-800-MEDICARE.... If there is a penalty for not signing up sooner...don't worry about it now.  My neighbor signed up late and was NOT penalized.  You can contest the penalty later.

    part of the problem is I don't use the phone except for emergencies.  when I did call ss or the people on ageing got no visible help.  phone doesn't work for me.  I tried online numerous times.  my situation just don't compute.  hope representative gibson will help.  (he has a beautiful dog, I'd definitely vote for the dog.)

    if you need to fix the dressing with (paper) surgical tape, (dr google says not to use tape, to use elastisized t shirts or such but I've not been able to locate any), the sizzors if you need to cut the tape will get sticky & eventually unusable with the sticky stuff used to attatch the dressing.  it won't wash off but a metal nail file will take it off fairly easily

    I thought :october:  I've written the ss office.  I got a letter back from the representative, with a phone number & a name.  I've gone this route so many times with no luck.  I wrote the representative again & enclosed the letter I wrote to the ss office

    update.  it seems the suggestion to contact my congressman has worked.  at least I've been told I'm now signed up for A & B

    I've  been finding it difficult to keep enough supplies on hand so I've just begun making dressings using the now too small pieces of cotton dish towling as a first defense over pads with sticky tabs, with a cut baggie over that
