What are you doing for fun??

nbnotes, Brad Paisley was raised in Glen Dale, WV, which is less than 30 minutes from where I live. His song out now "River Bank" seems to be a shout out to this area as people here in the Ohio Valley live in little towns all up and down the Ohio River. I haven't seen him perform in person yet. I like his music and need to look into getting tickets to a show next time he plays in my area.
Bluemnm, is that Natural Bridge part of the Blue Ridge Mountains? Virginia is a favorite state of mine and last summer we drove some of Skyline Drive. The area speaks to me in a spiritual way; I absolutely love it.
-
MrsM The Natural Bridge is in the valley just below the Blue Ridge Mts. Natural Bridge seems to be privately owned. The view of the bridge is blocked from the road. One has to pay an admission fee to see it and a couple of other tourist things. (wax museum and I forget what else) There is an older hotel across the street from the bridge and they offer a package deal of a room with admission to the bridge.. Last time we were there we were the only guests staying in the hotel. The Shenandoah Valley is just about as nice as being up on the skyline drive. Luray Caverns is another interesting site.
Meanwhile I am still in the midst of preparing for my daughter's wedding this weekend (YIKES)

MrsM, I second what NYC said about the natural bridge. There is a small admission fee to see it, but it is pretty neat. There are two zoos in the area as well and some caverns. It is around Lexington, VA and I believe the blue ridge parkway is nearby though. I know I saw signs for it. I bought a book called 1,000 places you should see and I'm trying to hit up the ones locally in WV, VA and OH and it was part of that book.
-
Blue, I'd be curious to hear what some of the other sights of interest are on Ohio & WV.
-
MrsM, I sent you a PM.

Love all your updates and photos! There's a lot of joy on this thread, and it's contagious!

I love everyone's picture!
Divinemrs.m, I am so glad you enjoyed your cruise. On my very first cruise (Disney) we went to Nassau too. I love cruising and am now addicted. Hope you get a chance to cruise again.
Musiclover,
Yes, my mouth sores are almost gone but it took about two weeks and lots of gargling with Peroxyl. I have learned my lesson and will keep the wool out of my mouth!
School began yesterday and I am charmed by my 23 little cuties. It is fun to watch them because they are so proud to be 1st graders. Our district still has half day kindergarten so quite a few of my students were stunned to find out that there would be more school after lunch. They were pretty wiped out by the end of the day. I was too, but am so happy to be back at the job I love.

Okay, we're gonna go! We're checking out this event in Grand Rapids and have booked flights and a hotel for October. It sounds like such fun. (I hope my mysterious neuropathy diminishes by October since so much walking is involved.)
Today my partner and I explored an excellent kids' clothes consignment store and went overboard buying very gently-used and new super-cute fall and winter togs for our four-month old niece. Her mom is very into being thrifty and green. We had a great time and were delighted to score what felt like real bargains.
We're spending Labor Day weekend at the house of friends in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. It should be pleasant except for the usual holiday traffic issues in getting there.
Theatre season is revving up again, people are returning to town, and the calendar is increasingly crammed.
Cancer, take a hike!

Beautiful pictures Chuztpah. Your daughter is gorgeous! Did the groom wear those white shoes for the ceremony or just afterwards? Either way, they look like a fun couple besides being attractive too!
(My prayer is to make it to my children's weddings, 2 are college age and one is a jr. in hs. I need a miracle!)
My fun this past week was going to the zoo with my sons and older son's girlfriend. Then watching my son and husband surfing today, tired now.

Musiclover - love the zoo and love watching people surf. Sounds like great fun.
We're almost done moving house. What a struggle it's been. I'm sore, my husband is sore, we're both tired, and we're both grumpy. However, I got up this morning to get coffee and came face to face with a cow in the kitchen window! The diary cows from next door we ambling through the yard at our new place. Not sure what the story was, but quite fun to wake up to!
-
NYC, loved the wedding pictures. You have a beautiful family and the bride was gorgeous! As well as the mother of the bride!! Congratulations!!

Just returned from our annual Harley trip to Vermont- where it rained almost every day! We rented a cozy cabin in the woods with no electric, only gaslight and a fireplace. SO restful and healing! On a walk we came upon two bear cubs- beyond adorable but not knowing where Mama was, we scooted out of there quick! Bought a bottle of wine, ate great Vermont cheddar with hunks of bread, maple fudge, and when we were able to get out and go riding around, I ordered onion rings with every meal!
-
Yum, dbla! The food and the serenity of the surroundings plus the freedom of bike travel sounds wonderful.
-
