My PS for sure knew she could fit 450-500 but also brought in 550,since she said up to 600 might fit.  In pre op, I told her, "If 550 fit and they look good, go for it."  When I woke up, my boyfriend handed me the card and told me she put in 550s.  I couldn't believe my doped up eyes!  When I saw her 5 days later she said, "Well, you wanted the big ones."  I actually like them.

Can you someone share whether they are happy w the shaped Sientras. Having a real hard time choosing between the textured shaped round high profile sientra implant and the round silicone high profile sientra. Heard shaped give you more lower pole than upper and scar is larger, but great statistics on low risk of rotating and capsular contracture. Really want to know if they look a lot more natural and hopefully aren't too firm as reported.

gracenfaith, I have sientra shaped round high profile (6 weeks post op) and am happy. I do believe they appear natural looking. As far as firmness, since I have never felt a round implant to compare it to, it's firm but not uncomfortably so. I had IMF stitches and they've were no larger than my BMX stitches.

Has anyone been given something for scarring? I had implants put in 10 years ago and my doctor gave me something for scarring and you could not see the scars at all after a while.

alot of people use Scar Away strips. You can cut them in half, and wash them, to last longer.

I've not heard of those. Are they something you could buy at Walgreens?

You can find silicone strips in lots of places, I know CVS has their own ones that are more affordable than the branded ones.

The idea is they add some pressure to keep the incision area flat while it heals. Other things can do the same...some use paper tape for example. I did try silicone strips for a week or two but found them to be a pain in the butt as I had to remove them 2-3x a day (to workout, to shower) and re-apply. My PS said it was good to massage the scars 1-2x a day once healed up with some fragrance free lotion; his position on silicone strips was they are unproven to work but would not harm me to try either. He said the rest was up to genetics. My scars so far are flat and healing nicely, but admittedly I have always found my scars turn out quite well in the end.

I used those strips for my c section. They did okay. Were easy to use but was lazy to have to wash them so much. I will try them again. Aloe Vera plant works good too, you can buy TE plant somehwre like Home Depot and you break them and run the ointment on ten out soem gauze on. Works great but is messy! Also try opening a vitamin E capsule too. Use them all at one maybe it will work! Lol

funny you guys mentioned this scar situation drives me nuts. Lol

I ended up with a huge scar on my left side and a nice clear one on the rad side. Same for the upper nodes scars so I did some research and I now request removable stitching from my ps, he is ok with that.  Some how I realized that the so called dissolve stitchs don't really desolve in my skin,  why i don't know.  In the past I never had a problem like this so now I will try to get removable so they take those off me in a week. I know over time my skin clear up well but not if there is some tread in it that my skin is not able to dissolve lol not sure if I make sense lol but that is my plan now. I also ask what other options are there since I did used the silicon strip and had not much luck. The Ps said they can inject cortisone in the scars.  So if it happens again I will request that.

Hope this info help you ;)

Olaf, do you think the sientras give you enough projection and cleavage? Heard its hard to find bras and because they're form stable, a bra won't lift them or give more cleavage. Also not sure if these shaped sientras will look a lot smaller than the TEs I have in. PS wants to use the 320ccs and I'm currently filled to 320ccs.  I'm pretty petite so 370ccs is probably not an option.

Gracenfaith, I have very similar questions!  I know that doesn't answer anything, but that's exactly what I need to know too!

I have not found that bras lifted or created cleavage with my implants, and they are round, high profile. I was also surprised how little a difference there is in sizes of implants.  At one point I had a 500cc on the left and a 650cc on the right - very little difference between the two. My understanding with the shaped implants that you may have less projection and less upper pole fullness, and a firmer feeling. This linked thread might have some info for you:

Thanks, SpecialK.  I wonder why some women have implants that can be uplifted and some can't.

Can anyone out there push them together to make cleavage?

I can only speak for myself, but reconstructed breasts are not that malleable - not like regular breast tissue, and are constrained by the pocket your plastic surgeon creates for them.  You could conceivably push them together but if I wore a bra capable of doing that it would be painful, and my plastic surgeon is not a fan of push-up or underwire bras for reconstructed breasts.

I'm so glad to find that out now because I hadn't expected that and am honestly somewhat sad/freaked out about it!  So no corset/bustier-type undergarments ever again?   Better to learn now that post-surgery.

Some doctors recommend underwire, some don't - mine would be happy if I never wore one again.  I would ask your doc about this, and many do wear underwire bras, see the link below.  I have pretty large implants and they are not moveable like natural breasts - that is why so many people here go bra-less.  Mine don't bounce or squish together, but they do look normal in a bra.  Whether or not you wear corset/bustier type stuff again will be dependent on your individual situation.

Has research been done on what is best for the actual implants as far as underwire, no underwire, no bra or other things so we don't have problems later on from doing one or the other? Seems that all ps have different opinions on that so am wondering what research has shown. Do they need support to keep them firm? Things like that so they look good all the time too! :) lol

babyo - I doubt any formal research has been done. Most PS advise based on what they have seen in their own practices.

I have cohesive gel high profile and I can put them in a push up bra no problem. Mine are very moveable and soft. Having said that I wouldn't wear a full out push up bra to many days in a row. Just seems counter intuitive and really not needed.Wouldn't want to stretch the pocket towards the center. I wear a Demi underwire daily which gives them plenty of upper pole fullness. It really just depends on how much room was left in the pocket. The bottom line about underwires is that as long as they are fitted right they shouldn't affect the implant at all. The problem is people don't make sure that the wire sits correctly on your chest wall as opposed to riding up on the implant and all the way around the implant on the sides.

Many of you mention pocket work. Do you mention that you want more cleavage so they do pocket work or do they realize what needs to be done to make them look more natural? My PS didn't tell me much about what he is going to do so wonder if I should mention anything to him about it. I thought about pictures but it's hard to tell exactly how they look from a picture only. I assume as long as implant is bigger in volume than I am now it will be bigger. Beth what is your frame like?

gracenfaith and Elizabeth, I do have cleavage and do think my PS helped out in some way! Projection, I also have. I was 450cc with my TEs and exchanged to 425cc sientra with no loss of projection. I don't have a problem finding bras that fit. I don't like underwires so I have a couple bralettes, a couple free form lace cup bras and a couple soft cups. I don't want anymore projection so the more natural the bra, the better. Gracenfaith, I am petite, wore xs before BC and still do. I have been told by several friends that I look very natural and I was in a swimsuit. One asked to touch them and she thought they were pretty natural feeling.

just posted under exchange. It went pretty good! I was so put of it after that was the worst but just need rest. It's hard to sleep more than five minutes. Lol I got what I asked for so that is good in a way. :)

He used 535 mentor ultra Hugh which is high in projection. I wanted what I had but not that much but was afraid if I told him that it would be too small. They are 12 cm wide and 6.1 cm projection so that is big but not so much in my arm. I so want o peak! Gauze seems to be thick so maybe they are actually a little smaller. He did some pocket work too. I can't see the pocket work but he told me he did.

Overall I a, happy with it. I don't want fluff though be use I don't want them bigger! I did tell him make them proportionate so guess he thought this was good. I kinda would have liked them a tad smaller but that's okay. I am def bigger than my org size but slightly smaller than my TE whichiswhat I wanted, he was right that he can match it.

How ad you doing Julie? Has yours changed since then?
