Hi All,
Just want to say how much you guys all rock! I haven't posted much but reading this all is so encouraging and makes me laugh constantly. You are all strong, smart, sassy and funny! My favorite combos. Thanks to all of you for taking the time to take care of us. So ditto what Ally2345 said!!! And, adding you to the list, Ally2345!
It is so comforting to finally have a group of women to feel at home with. I feel so lucky! I've been waiting since last Dec. for my surgery and this is the first group I have joined that I feel comfortable with and can't wait to read all the time.
xoxo

Katy- So glad you are joining us...we are a fun group!! Gotta find the good in this journey and having these ladies is a definite good!!
Woohoo! Got my surgery time. I am doing the warm-up for Bobo!! I go in at 6:45. As many of you know, I was initially told I was going to be late in the day and I was lamenting ad naseum about no breakfast and no coffee. I do the early morning much more cheerfully!!!
Bobo- I was going to offer you my "extra" leftover implants to add to your selection choice...haha!! Wonder if that ever happens. The nurses will probably be thinking we should have scheduled these two much farther apart!!
Counting down...yippee!!

Hey Ally2345,
I go in at 6:00 am! So I am warming it up for everyone. (Though I guess it doesn't count since I am in NY).
Still.. Can. Not. Wait.
Good luck to everyone.
See you on the flip side,
Nina

Holy Moly, I sure missed a lot. Just got back from a mini vaca with the fam since this has been my only week since Feb that I haven't had an appt, a treatment, a scan or have been recovering from chemo. And it was fun!! Back to reality!!
Brandyrose-That is my plan too, unilateral MX for now with prophylactic MX during recon. I cant have TE's or implants because of the type of BC I have. I will have to have some kind of flap, so the BS and I made this plan. she said it will be easier for the PS to not have to work around a scar.
Ninany-I'm from NY too, grew up in Queens and live on LI now. Ill be having my surgery in NYC too!
Love and hugs to all who have had their surgery this week, I hope you are all healing well!
Found out I have to be in at 1:15 on Monday.....BLEH! Not excited at all!!! Will prob be the worst morning EVER!!!
-
Jules- Glad you got to take some time with the fam!! I hate those late start times...that being said, the morning will go fast!! You will do great!! We are thinking about you!!
Ninany- So glad there is an opening act before mine. Haha!! You can start us off right!! Get some rest and, as you said, see you on the flip (and squishy) side!!!

Hello Ladies. I'm about to doze off so this is a cut and paste from what I wrote on the picture forum. Sorry!
I had a super awesome surgery day!!! It took about 90 minutes but she had a lot to do! She biopsied my bump, fixed my dent (it looks like it anyway),put them closer together, and worked on my armpit fat triangle. Right before surgery, she said I's probably end up with 450 or 500, and that the 550 probably wouldn't fit. She new I wanted her to squeeze in the largest amount possible that fit and looked good. Well, I woke up with 550s!!!
After surgery, we even went out to eat. I feel some soreness and tightness (she said I would since she squeezed in 550s), but I feel really great! I am sleepy though and I am about to nap. I'll post pictures soon in the next day or two! I get to shower tomorrow. I woke up with steri strips, gauze, and a light surgical bra. Interesting, I also have gauze rolled up in the middle to prevent my foobs from getting too close together. I never heard of that. They are about an inch apart now instead of 2. Honestly, I have only peeked a little. OK I'm starting to doze while I type this. I'm very happy today.
Here is a picture of how great I felt when I woke up. I got the ear patch and the anesthesiologist hooked me up with other stuff to prevent nausea. It all worked. Take care, everyone, and I will catch up on your posts when I'm more awake :-)
-
Jules, welcome back from your much deserved vacation! Sorry to hear about the late start. Make sure and bring something to keep you busy at the hospital just in case things get a little more delayed.
Julie, you are looking great girl! Woo-hoo for a successful surgery and getting the cc's that you were hoping for. Fantastic!
-
Thanks, Susan Four more days for you! It really is easy compared to BMX. I get to take a shower today so I'll be able to take the bra off and check out the goods better!
-
Quick question.
I read that asking for the ear patch is helpful for nausea, and I'll probably ask for it.
Is there a reason though that the nausea would be worse for this surgery than any other?
I had knee surgery a couple of years ago and didn't have the patch and didn't have nausea.
Thanks!
-
Lori, my anesthesiologist actually said that nausea is much more common with breast surgery, than other surgeries. I have no idea why. Better safe than sorry. I will ALWAYS ask for an ear patch and anything they can add during surgery to prevent it. Your lumpectomy is more than likely a much shorter surgery so I think you are less likely to feel sick.
-
Speaking of nausea, my pre-op nurse said to significantly increase fluids several days before surgery. She said it helps decrease nausea after surgery. I've never heard that bef but it can't hurt to try. We never seem to get enough water any way. I'll still be asking for my special anti-nausea cocktail just to be safe!
-
Honeymama- My plastic surgeon will be providing the post surgical bra, he said he had a special one he likes for his patients to use. My Nurse Navigator will be bringing me some special camisoles to wear under clothing, they have drain holders sewn into them
I am cleaning my house from top to bottom, and I am stocking my home with plenty of food and goodies for my caretakers and I.
-
Susan, good advice. I really didn't dring enough water the day before surgery. I was sooo thirsty in the morning, after surgery, and the entire day. I'm still thirsty and I have been drinking water like crazy.
When I had my BMX in March, I woke up with a flimsy, silky surgical bra and my chest was wrapped in 2 ace bandages. I think I wore that for 2 days. I was able to shower on day 2 so I removed the ace bandage and mostly wore camis. I was given 2 camis with removable drain pockets but the camis were tight and uncomfortable. So I mostly wore a genie bra (they are awesome), and then safety pinned the drain pockets into looser, more comfortable PJs, tank tops, and cami's. If you buy genie bras, they have ones with inserts that smooth out imperfections. You can take the inserts out when you wash them. They also make whatever size mounds you have a little bigger. Once I got up to about 300cc, I ditched the inserts. They run a little small so get them a size bigger. I bought large. The good thing about genie bras and loose camis is that you can step into them and pull them up instead of trying to put them on over your head. Remember at first, they say don't raise your arms over shoulder level. I think the first 1-2 weeks??
-
the ear nausea patch causes dry mouth. I had one for my first exchange and by the middle of the night after surgery I got up and ripped it off cause I couldnt stand it anymore. But it does help the nausea....
In 6 months everything will look so different than today. As I typed that I meant psychologically, but I mean physically too I guess!!! The fright of the dx, the surgery, the treatments--- a lot of that will be behind you and you will have a less stressed out look. You'll be amazed.
-
Julie!!!! You look so awesome and happy!!!!! Can't wait for that moment when I get my recon next spring!
Cleaning my house and sticking up in goodies too!! Getting more anxious everyday.
-
Best wishes on your surgery tomorrow, Jules_NY! You'll do great!
-
Julie- So happy for you!! On an outing with the fam all day today so just grabbed my iPad to check up on you. I am so envious...I was hoping for 475s and they only ordered the 425 and 450. You are rocking with those 550s! BTW, you look so darn cute!! You give all of us something to smile about!!
Okay all of us Monday girls, paint your toes if you can, clean if you feel you must (haha) and let's follow Julie's lead and all have an awesome experience!!

Well I made it Tuesday. Don't remember much of it. Came home Wednesday night. The recliner has been my best friends. But already hate having to sleep on my back and not my front. Can't get over the spasms but I don't want to take too much Valium because I sleep so much. But I have been able to get up and walk around. Drinking lots of water and have even been able to eat. Not as painful as I thought it would be. Going to try the shower today. Been too out of it to try it sooner.
-
Nina is warmin' it up for all of us Monday women! Go Nina! And welcome back Shewolf!
Ally2345, you make me laugh. I am not having implants! I will take your leftover ones, however -- tell the nurses and see if they give them to me! And then we will think that is hilarious and we can stack them up and make some kind of drinking game out of it in future.
Well, it's a little bit of a tense weekend and I am on my 3rd day of a headache (cannot take advil before sx/ allergic to tylenol), and then, what should my wondering eyes to appear, but another picture of Julie apres surgery! Looking beautiful as usual Julie! You are the Homecoming Queen of the August sisterhood. Did you really go out to eat after sx? I am gobsmacked.
Have been laying in goodies all weekend too. I've got to finish cleaning (and hysterically straightening things) tomorrow. Yikes! Toes painted, but I have not yet "shaved from the neck down." Julie, what does that mean?!
XXX
-
Toes painted...check!!!
-
Ha ha I guess I'm the poster child for a successful exchange surgery. I don't really have any pain and I swear I could go to work Monday if I really wanted to (but I don't) :-D I go back on the 19th. Ally, if you end up with 450cc, I think they will look great. I'm almost worried mine are too big but I haven't really have a chance yet to figure that out! I still have a big wad of gauze beteen my foobs. I guess my PS told my BF I should keep it there so they don't move closer together and pull on some muscle release thing she did.
Best wishes to all of you going Monday - Ally, Ninany, Jules, Bobogirl, and Lori. I'll be thinking of you.
-
I love all the banter about 450s, 500s and rockin 550s!! It's like the lady version of power under the hood for guys and their cars. For us it's under our hoodies.
Katy
-
Jules- you are ahead of me...still got to deal with the toes and shaving from the neck down LOL!
Shewolf- yep, the recliner is a wonderful thing!! That first shower feels so good!
Katy- Bahahaha!!! That is a great analogy!!
Julie- isn't it funny they are worried about the girls getting too close when we have been worried that they were migrating so far apart. I can get three fingers between. So glad you are feeling great!!

Just checked into a hotel in NYC. My hubby and I decided to have one last night out on the town with the girls as a pair! Plus the hotels around the cancer center I go to gives a discounted rate to patients so that helped our plans! We also got a free upgrade. This cancer stuff has it's perks!!! Lol
Since laughter is the best medicine we are going to a comedy show, dinner and some cocktails. Luckily I Don't have to shave from the neck down since I just finished chemo 3 weeks ago! But just typing that makes me chuckle!! But I do have to hibiclense it up!
Ally, Nina, Lori and bobo. I will be thinking about you guys tomorrow!!!!!
Xoxoxo
-
Jules_NY- Woohoo on date night tonight!! Love your choices...putting in a funny movie tonight. Laughter is the best medicine!! Have a blast and see you on the other side!!
Got the toes done, sort of a blend between gold and pewter. It is such a shame they make me wear those socks...LOL!!!
All right, Ninany is kicking us off on the early shift then I think me then Bobo then Lori. See you all on the other side!!! Hugs!!

Thanks guys! I am soooooo ready! Cleaned my apt all day and stocked the fridge. My Mom's moving in to help me with the dog, etc. for a few days..
Ok I'Il check in after.. Good luck everyone!
-
Checking in...surgery went good. 2 nodes removed and first pass they came back clean. I will find out next steps on the 20th when I see my oncologist. Feeling good...just very tired. I was lucky and experienced no nausea and did not have the patch but did drink a lot of water leading up to surgery.
I am happy to see so many of our August Sisters recovering so well!
Welcome to our new Sisters!
-
