August 2014 Surgery

And I'm home! Finally. My surgery got bumped to 4pm yesterday so that sucked. But luckily I still don't have that much of an appetite from chemo so I didn't really start feeling hungry till about 2. And I took a xanax to combat the morning anxiety which helped a lot. But the moment I hit the operating table I lost it. Couldn't stop crying, they immediately gave me Versed and the next thing I knew I was in recovery! It took ahwhile for me to wake up from anesthesia but that's the norm for me. My surgery ended at 5:30 but my husband couldn't see me until 7:30.then I finally got a room at 9pm. The surgeon said the breast tissue and nodes looked normal to the naked eye but the path report will tell the real truth. Either way I still need radiation, tamox, and to finish out my herceptin. But its nice to know the chemo did its job!
Not in much pain but that has a lot to do with no TE's. Drains are annoying but tolerable. Very strange to see no boob! But also tolerable for now!
Congrats to my the 8/11 sisters. One more thing to check off the cancer list. Sorry that your recoveryery is a little rough bobo and shewolf. Thoughts and cyber hugs to you!
Iwannaseeyoubebrave, Sassy, and Brandy.....you got this!
-
Bobo - I hear ya, but it's actually keeping me busy, so I don't mind too much right now. Hopefully you can change that dressing and shower soon. A good shower always make everything feel better. Hang in there!
Lori - congrats on a successful surgery! So glad your pain is under control. Keep us updated on your path report. Sending you gentle hugs.
Diva - wonderful news that you're feeling better, and I'm so glad you have a nurse able to come and tend to the dressings. You are rocking it too!
Keep up the great work, August Sisters!
-
That's so true, Allydp. A shower would be nice.
Congrats to Lori and Diva! You are plainly rocking your sx and recoveries. Jules, you bowl me over! A 4 p.m. sx time? Outrageous. I thought I was going to have a nervous breakdown just waiting until 11 a.m. Big hugs to you right back.
Waiting to hear from our girl band! We will be with you all the way. XXXX
-
So, it's no coincidence, then, that my anesthesiologist called and his name is Dr. Dre. I kid you not! I'll work on negotiating some autographed Beats headphones and maybe a recording contract for us!
Kinda nervous and emotional. Just lost my dad a few months ago and his birthday was Thursday so it got me crying easily. Funny because I haven't done much cancer crying until recently.
Anyways, thinking about my band mates tomorrow! We'll rock it!
And can't keep track of everyone b/c my brain is fried, but happy for everyone who is doing well and positive thoughts for those having tougher times post-op.
-
any report on the latissimus dorsl flap surgery? I hope you are doing well Myers from Illinois. I've been thinking of you
-
So I went for my pre op yesterday...surgery in 6 days...and I am terrified. My PS found a "small pimple" on my left boob..he said if its not gone by wensday, he will not put the TE's in until after "chemo" !!?? I didn't know they already decided that I needed chemo ! I tried the old toothpaste trick before bed last night but it's still there..now Im trying a hot tea bag, please please go away !! Any suggestions ???
-
Hi Everyone,
Finally got my surgery date! August 27th, bmx with one stage implants (no TEs).
-
Sassy:too funny.
Keeping you in my thoughts!!
-
....and we are done! Ultra high Mentor 700cc. I'm a little sore on my left (cancer side) but feeling great so far!
-
IWANNASEEYOUBEBRAVE - Hooray! You look awesome!!!
-
I just received my BRAC testing and...NEGATIVE! That is a good thing to hear.
They still don't have the results from my HER2 testing from 7/9. The preliminary results were inconclusive and I would have thought we would have heard something by now. My nurse practitioner said they are tracking them down and hope to have them by the end of the week. Kind of makes me feel not very optimistic, but if it comes back as positive, then I just know that I will receive Herceptin as I go through this journey toward wellness!
-
Susan, you look great and happy! Congrats!!! You must have gotten the same great anesthesia I had. I'm so happy for you. Take it easy.
Ml, great news on the test! Yay!
-
Ganzgirl, I also had red bumps on my breast that didn't go away. The PS excised them last week during my exchange surgery and I just found out today they are benign. I had them for 2 months and none of the docs were too concerned. I can't imagine they would know already if you will need chemo or not. I hope you get your TEs and everything works out. Hugs.
-
Yes Juliecc I was shocked when he said he wouldn't put TE's in until after chemo if this little pimple isn't gone by wensday !! It's just a pimple and how could he know I will need chemo ? Ive read that chemo Is sometimes required for large tumors even if nodes are not involved...maybe that's why ? Im assuming my onco score will determine if I need chemo
-
Ganz, Julie seems to know what she's talking about regarding pimples. Your doc's reaction must have been alarming.
Susan! Another gorgeous post-op picture. I swear we could do a calendar. I would not be on the calendar.
Thinking about those Aug 13 sisters. Seashore, thinking of you. XXXX
-
Ganz, do they plan to do the Oncotype Dx score on your tumor? I would insist on getting that score back before making a chemo decision. Positive nodes would be a factor, too, of course. My onc originally told me, "I recommend you do chemo because of your age." Then when my Oncotype Dx came back a 12, she said to not do chemo. It would only give me a 1-2% benefit.
-
Ganz, try stridex pads. I had the same problem and started using it on my chest and it cleared up fairly quickly. I know it's not the best stuff but it worked for me and then the plastic surgeon was happy to continue has planned.
Take care,
Susan
-
Susan- You look awesome! So glad all went well!
Seashore- Thinking of you today! You will do great and we are all with you.
Ganz- Wish I knew something for the pimples. It would help me a lot with my 15 year old daughter...LOL! She always uses toothpaste but I see that didn't work. Hopefully some others will have some suggestions.
Sunny- Congrats on getting the date. That helped me so much because then I could start to plan. It will be here before you know it!!
Posted pics on the picture forum...not thrilled but not upset...just sort of different than I had expected. Less projection (not that I was going for Baywatch boobs but at least as much as the TEs). Right now I have to get this rash under control. Ugh.
Hope all that have had surgeries continue to heal and those that are preparing, let us know if we can help!!
Ally

Good morning ladies
Nope..toothpaste didn't work..dam pimple ! Im on my way out to the store in a little bit to buy everything I can to make sure this Bitch is gone by wensday lol. Juliecc..yes they are doing the onco test...if that comes back low (fingers crossed) then Im assuming I wont need chemo. Susan..yea, the PS's reaction to the tiny pimple was shocking to me...I really don't remember leaving his office I was so upset.
-
Just spent some time on the picture forum and I have to say, Julie, Ally, Ninany, Susan, you all look awesome! Thank you so much for posting pics. It's so helpful to get an idea of what things will look like.
Seashore - thinking of you today and hope all is going well! Check in when you can and let us know how you're doing.
Jules - so sorry I missed your post yesterday! That stinks they bumped your surgery. I have a feeling I might get bumped too considering I'm a noon start. Awesome to hear the tissue looked good. Sounds like you have a great shot at a complete response! Keep us posted on the path report and rest, rest, rest! Sending gentle hugs.
Sassy - Dr. Dre…I love it! Also wanted to say I'm sorry to hear about your Dad. I'm sure he is watching over you right now. Hope all went well yesterday. Check in when you can.
Ganz - I swear by benzoyl peroxide. I buy the knock off ProActive kits from Walgreens and use just the lotion. I dab a big blob of it on blemishes after I wash my face in the morning and night and within a day or so they're usually gone. I hope it clears up and you're able to get those TE's. This was definitely a last minute stress you didn't need.
SunnyC - welcome!
Susan - you look great! Congrats on a successful surgery!
Ml - great news!
Ally - that rash doesn't sound fun. I hope it clears up soon. Also wanted to say try not to be discouraged yet with the result. It's still super early and things need to settle in. Easier said than done though I'm sure. Hope you're still feeling good.
Ladies, we're half way through the month and going strong! Sending gentle hugs to all those in recovery and thinking of all of us on deck. xo
-
Hi ladies!
Ganz sorry about that stubborn pimple!!!!! I hope it clears up soon
I hope everyone is healing well. I'm a lot more tired than I thought. Prob because I'm still recovery from chemo.
How's dr dre's girl band doing????? And seashore I hope your road to recovery has started out right.
Ally, violet, Ann, you girls are up next. I hope this weekend doesn't drag for you!! Love and hugs!!

Hi All!
Surgery went well! So excited and relieved to have this done. Had a delay so scheduled to start at noon but got going at 4pm. Home by 8:30. No drains. Worst part = wire localization.
BS took out one node and preliminary pathology shows 60-80% chance it is negative. Sounds like he thinks he got clean margins on tumor but we will know more next week.
Feeling good, keeping up with pain meds. Took me awhile to figure out why I feel so good. First time I've been pain free in joints and muscles since starting Letrozole in February.
Best line from BS post-op message: "I think she'll be happy with the cosmetic result." Hopefully that means no dent since it was a big lump.
Susan, you look great!! Rocking 700cc. Thats alot of power under the hood!
Brandyrose, hope you are doing well.
Thanks for all of your support, everyone.
Thanks Allydp for being such a great host!

Hi ladies, I had my surgery 1 week ago today and I'm more uncomfortable now than I was 3 days ago. My foobs feel so tight and I keep getting shooting pains. I still have 2 drains, anybody else going through this? Also, I got my path report back and had 10 positive nodes all with active cancer. That was quite a blow since I've already had 4 months of chemo. My left breast however has no active disease and the proph right one was disease free as well. This all puts me into stage 3C, I'm still reeling a bit, kind of down in the dumps. Haven't gotten to the MO yet so I don't know what's next but I assume aromatase inhibitor and rads. Arrgghh… cancer blows.
Sassy-seven, congrats on getting thru it… yay for you, and no drains!
Ganz, I hope the pimple is just a pimple and doesn't interfere with your surgery, here's hoping it'll be gone in the morning.
Jules, my surgery got bumped by a whole week. Then the night before it got bumped from 7:30 till 1:00. then I got there and they never came for me till 2 and my surgery didn't start till 3. It is hard when all you want to do is get it over with.
Angel, congrats on getting your date and good luck to you.
Allydp, you're getting close, if I don't get back on here before then, good luck to you, you're all in my prayers.
-
Sassy, I'm so happy you are feeling good! Praying for your clean margins. Rest up!
Genny, yes, cancer does blow. I'm sorry you are going through such a difficult time. I remember that it was my 3rd week after my dmx when I started feeling better after surgery. Keep us posted with your MO appointment. I pray you find some comfort and that the MO puts you on a solid plan to kick this thing in the arse once and for all. Hugs to you.
Susan
-
Sassy- So glad things went well and I hope you are thrilled with the cosmetic result...best message to get!!
Allydp, Violet, Annemo- Try and rest over the weekend. However, I am sure you will all be cleaning, organizing, etc. Watch a funny movie Sunday night and relax...you all will do great! Remember, we are in your pockets and all sending positive thoughts and prayers your way!!
Sunshine, Ganz and Gram are on deck with SueEllen just around the corner.
You ladies will rock these surgeries!!!
Genny- So sorry for the report...let us know what your MO recommends. You are right...cancer blows big time!!
Happy Friday to all!
Ally

Good Mornng ladies !
So glad to see all the august sisters that have had surgery are doing well...definetly comforting to see
Pimple is still there...it feels really hard...maybe its a cyst ?? Of course my mind is messing with me at this point and making me wonder if it has anything to do with the cancer. God I hate cancer ! I was watching the show NY Med last night (love that show ~) and one of the patients was a man (guessing in his 60's?) who was dx with lung cancer..so they did other tests before the surg on his lung and found out he also had stomach cancer...I bawled my eyes out !! But, to my surprise, it was a happy ending..they gave him chemo first in hopes it would shrink one of the tumors so they could operate..and it worked..so I cried some more ! lol Probably shouldn't be watching stuff like that right now but in a strange way, the happy ending gave me so much comfort
5 more days...tick tick tick..
-
In the bag for allydp (our beautiful hostess), violet, and ammeno! I had my sx on a Monday. It can be nervewracking to wait through the weekend but you will get the house extremely clean
Thinking of you all weekend!
-
Thanks so much, everyone! The nerves are setting in, but I'm keeping busy. I'm kind of glad my surgery is on a Monday. It's nice to have the weekend to clean and prepare. Violet and Annemo, hope you have a great weekend!
Angelfaith - welcome!
Sassy - so glad to hear all went well and great news on the prelim path report! Rest up and keep us posted on how things are going!
Genny - my heart goes out to you. Getting the news about the nodes must have been a shock. I hate cancer. When do you see your MO? I'm sure it's a whirlwind right now, but things will start looking up once you have a plan in place. Please keep us posted. You're in my thoughts.
Ganzgirl - thinking of you. I hate the fear we have to live with sometimes. I hope the pimple turns out to be nothing.
