Spotted some creature!
-
this little guy is cute. Don't see many of these on my beach walks
-
I like the orange bill and black head feathers.
-
He was all alone but mixing with these.
-
I am sitting here watching for birds. Just saw a beautiful male hooded oriole. Too fast for a picture
-
You seem to have a nice shaded area to watch the birds.
-
I was just out on our patio...the day was hot today, but it generally cools off at night. it was just perfect out there..
-
The pool looks inviting!
-
I was thinking the exact same thing..but I will wait until tomorrow..

Hi ladies,
Today is my birthday and I got a special gift as I looked outside in my mom's backyard. At the feeders were many birds and one very special bird. It was a female cardinal with a white head! I have never seen such a thing. What do you make of that?

BD Lady, enjoy your special day!
-
Nancy, Have a happy birthday! It sounds like it's off to a good start.
-
Nancy - Happy Birthday & many many more!!! Funny neighbor - my birthday was yesterday!!!
Not sure what to make of your white headed cardinal - must be good luck!!
-
Thank you Lisa for the pretty birthday wish. Thanks Tekka and Wren and MJS. Happy Birthday to you too MJS. Hope it was a good one! My sister who lives in the same town as my mom saw this white headed cardinal in her backyard too so hopefully I can get picture of it. I am downstate now helping my mom for a couple of weeks. Have a great week everyone.Nancy BW

MJS, Belated Happy BD wishes to you!

DH found another robin nest in our quince tree. No idea if it's the same female or when she began sitting. This is starting to be fun. He said he was looking for a hummingbird nest since we're pretty sure we have at least one pair in the yard. I think their nest would be back in the impenetrable bushes. Plus they're so tiny they're hard to see.
-
I can't find any of my hummers' nests either...wish we had robins though
-
Wren, sounds like more fun with baby robins! I can't imagine seeing a hummer's nest. I am thrilled when I even see an adult which isn't very often. -
Lisa,I am thinking of buying myself a birthday present. I have been so impressed by your bird photos I have been checking out your 50x zoom Canon. I just might add another camera to my collection! I have been disappointed at the heavy weight and price of the telephoto lens for my Nikon SLR that work for bird photography.
-
I just love the camera
-
Thank you for the birthday wishes!!!!
-
One of our shelter volunteers had a hummingbird nest in her tree last year. Her DH mounted a camera with a telephoto lens on the deck and took daily photos of the family. Fascinating.
-
I just downloaded Merlin bird ap.very nice
-
-
Lisa,
Another beautiful picture. I am getting closer to taking the plunge and buying the camera like yours. I have read a ton of reviews. I think this camera will solve my dilemma for bird photography so I am excited. Now the next challenge will be you sending all of those beautiful birds you see to Illinois!

I don't know if this is true or not, but the people at the National wildlife refuge here told.me that San Diego County has more bird varieties than any other in the US. I think it is probably because we're on a flyway. A lot pass through.

-
I only saw this little blue heron once...guess he flew on his way somewhere
