wow! Great things going on lovely to read the updates.. Me?

Started smoking yesterday. Well, I 've done everything right my entire life & here I am. Let's try & see what naughty stuff I missed till now, was my main motivation actually. Can't even breathe the smoke in, and it smells horrendous!! Guess I'll quit tomorrow :)

Been to a rock concert tonight, watching the stars above. That was cool.

Glad we still keep living our moments.

    Hugs

LOL@Stagefree.  I gave up smoking.  So did my hubby.  Everyone says, "don't you feel better?"  Our answer - no, we just feel like we want a cigarette.  So glad you're giving up tomorrow. It's a nasty habit.  But glad you're doing goofy things.

When I lived in Vegas, I belonged to the Red Hat Society.  We did goofy things - kayaking lessons (all of us over 50, most of the "girls" over 70), visiting a brothel, doing high tea at Four Seasons.  At the brothel, one of the Red Hatters talked a client out of spending his time/money at the brothel and taking her on a date instead. :)  I miss doing goofy stuff with them. :)

goofy stuff .... I like that!  Maybe I'll go to Colorado and smoke some pot!  LOL!  My next few weeks will be interesting but I doubt I would classify them as fun.  Going to Florida for two weeks and have appointments to take my mom to 4 retirement communities.  Also have an appointment with a realtor to do a market analysis of their home.  Trying to show them they have options ... They are both 83 and taking care of 10 acres has really gotten to be too much for them.  And yikes, it's hot in Florida in August!!  I may just have to find something goofy to do while I'm down there!!

GatorGal - go to Disney World and hug Goofy - that would qualify! :) Not easy dealing with aging parents.  Wishing you luck.

GatorGal, good luck with the parents and realtor.  It isn't an easy sell to get aging parents to change their ways!

Kiwi, omg, that is a riot to hear you red hat ladies visited a brothel!!!!  Love it!

    Love reading the updates.

Looking forward to a week in Rockport, Mass.  One of our favorite places to relax and enjoy the water.

I am a beach person and find being by the beach and listening to the waves, especially at night provides so much stress reduction and healing.

On the subject of pot, I had used when I was originally diagnosed in 1997 and it was great.  Relieved almost all of the difficulty from chemo.  Was speaking to someone in my oncs office yesterday who was telling me that he uses it and it helps him greatly.  Got me to thinking about trying again, but at this point, I'm not even sure where to get it.

kiwi, unfortunately goofy is too far from my mom's but I'll try to find someone goofy to hug and post a pic!  Pearl lady, a week at the beach in Mass sounds way better than two weeks in the hot Florida sun.  I envy you?  Have fun and enjoy the sounds of the waves.  I don't know about NJ but I think medical pot is legal in some states.  You could probably ask your onc.  I've just asked my onc for Ritalin as I understand it helps with chemo fatigue.  Having problems with my insurance company in getting it so may have to pay for it myself.  Today I am down and out after chemo on Wednesday.  Carboplatin has my number.  I usually have 4-5 days of extreme fatigue!  Anyway, if you don't hear from me for a couple of weeks it's because my mom lives in the middle of no where and Internet is sketchy at best!  Hoping for good weeks for everyone!!

This summer our weather in Massachusetts has been spectacular! Warm days, not hot, with cool evenings. Not great for tomatoes but perfect for humans. Enjoy your time in Rockport.

Sounds great, Susan. It was like that when I was in NJ, which was a real treat for me. It has been unusually hot here in northern CA, not cooling down dramatically at night and, of course, no rain. We normally have rain free summers but we had such a dry winter that we now have a drought . As long as I keep my tomatoes, peppers and basil watered, they are very happy. Thankfully, I have a tiny patio garden so I don't feel like I'm using too much water. When it comes to lawns, the popular saying is "Brown is the new green"

MrsM - Here's a link to the article, complete with a picture (not of me).  I'd definitely recommend the Red Hat Society for those who want to do things outside of the box.  GatorGal - wishing you a good trip and good luck.

And this is a blog about the trip.  Diana Shelbourne, mentioned in the blog, was my neighbour in Las Vegas.

Gator Girl a week in Mass. is great in the summer, but the Florida sun is great from October through April, when It's not beach weather in the NE.  I am going to speak to my onc about pot, but really it's only one day a week when I feel yucky, so I'm not sure that he'll agree to it.  But I guess I can ask.  I also recently increased my Glucophage to 1000 mg a day, so my onc thinks that may have to to with it also.  Didn't know about Ritalin and chemo fatigue.  When I first started on Nuerontin the generic did not work for me.  My insurance required that I tried the generic for two months and then they paid for the brand name.  It's a shame we're all slaves to insurance.

Still staying close to home. I do love to go hiking, but now try to stay with fairly easy trails with the occasional bench or rock to sit on to take a break.  Here are a couple of pics from our hike at the Nature Center in Tenafly

I just got back from visiting family in Chicago & stayed a week in Michigan.  My son went water skiing & tubing.  The weather indicated storms all week, but we it only actually rained for about 20 minutes and blew over.  We stayed up until 2am daily playing cards & enjoying the day on the lake.   We were in Duwajiac, near Lake Magician in MI.

I hope everyone had a chance to enjoy some summer fun this year!

Beautiful pics, NY.  Terri - that sounds like a great time!

It's winter here, but coming on to spring.  We went for a drive yesterday, stalking baby animals with the camera.  Did find a large herd of alpacas and am hoping they'll have babies soon!  Would have done more pics and stalking, but we're moving house next weekend so figured I should come home and do at least a little packing.

Love the alpaca! On another thread, I mentioned that I have sore all over my mouth from licking yarn, both sheep's wool and alpaca. Someone posted that they imagined me licking a llama. Your picture will help them know their alpacas from their llamas!

Read this thread to find out why I've been licking wool.

Bear Mountain!  My Grandparents lived on Rout 9D in Garrison. I spent many adventurous summer weeks there. Life in those mountains was very different than in the suburbs of NoVa. Haven't been back in years...maybe add it to the list?

We leave in the morning for our annual week at Bethany Beach in Delaware. a week of sun & sand and Funnel Cakes!!  DH and all my Chickens come home to roost. My happy place (at least when we have the kids with us!) I will sit on the beach at sunset and drink a glass of wine around our bonfire. You will be there!

Have a blast, Virginia!  Sounds fantastic.  We're moving house.  It will be fun once we're moved in and it's all done!  Has amazing views; am looking forward to posting some pics of the beautiful ocean and mountains.  It's built into the side of a hill with a sunroom that looks down on the trees which are full of little birds (gray warblers, I think).

    KiwiCat,

Your new home sounds delightful! A grown-up tree house!  Having moved to our dream retirement home two years ago I can attest to the fact that it is good enough for the soul to be almost better than any tx even the best MO could dream up!  I know the stress of moving will be a lot to handle. I truly hope it will be more worth it than you can imagine!

I know you must here this all the time, but I'm gonna ask anyway! I have cousins in Australia, near Melbourne. I think its Waikerie. My Uncle is a Genealogist and found them years ago. 8th cousins! We all met-up in England at the Ancestral farm. They made a trip to the US about six years ago it's our turn to go there. My diagnosis stalled plans a bit, but I think some time in the next several years we will head your way!  It would be fun if we could actually meet for real life Goddess hugs! Oh!  The family name is Symmonds.  Jude & Ian Rogers. They are great fun.

I've got to go rally the troops to load the car and head for sand & sea.

    {{{hugs all around}}}

    Hi Virginia,

Hope you have a blast at sand and sea!  If you make it to Australia, then you might as well come over to NZ as you're most of the way here!  And of course you have a free place to stay! :)

nbnotes, I love Brad Paisley.   I went to his concert about 4 years ago he puts on a good show.  I'm glad everyone is having a nice summer.  We just got back from the Natural Bridge in Virginia.   It was a nice area. We went to a drive through safari with our niece and nephew and fed all kinds of animals.  They come right up to your car window and eat out of buckets of food you get.  It was funny, some of the animals were very aggressive trying to get the food and needless to say my car was a mess afterwards but watching a buffalo rip the food bucket out of DH'S hand was worth it.

I had a birthday party last night which got quite rowdy and went till 2am. It was great fun. One of my oldest friends came from out of town which was fantastic. She gave me a bracelet with the words "Do more of what makes you happy" inscribed on it. Words to live by really.

hey everyone, on my way home from 12 days in Florida with my mom and her DH.  Took them to four different retirement communities but they still want to stay in their home.  My mom's husband has dementia so don't know how long it will last but I feel I did my part, at least for now.  At some point we (his daughters and my mom's kids) will probably have to make the decision for them.  My mom bawled like a baby when I left today.  I know that she is thinking she may never see me again.  BUT ... I know that I will be able to visit her again.  She is a sweetheart and I love spending time with her.  He is another story ... LOL!  Looking forward to being home and seeing my grandkids.  Unfortunately, ct scan on Tuesday and chemo Wednesday!  Kiwicat, your new house sounds wonderful!  Happy Birthday, shazzakelly!

My husband, son and I returned from our cruise to the Bahamas last Friday.  We sailed out of Baltimore, Maryland down the Chesapeake Bay. Our first stop was Port Canaveral, Florida where we took an airboat ride and I got to hold a pet alligator. Then on to Nassau where we went to Atlantis for a dolphin encounter. Last port was the small and glorious tropical island of CocoCay where we snorkeled and saw fish, something I'd always wanted to do but never dreamed it'd really happen.

I've been to beautiful places before, but visiting the Bahamas was a new kind of beautiful that held me in awe.

Life on the cruise ship is carefree. Lots of food, entertainment,  fun in the pool; seeing and experiencing new places.  No wonder I was a bit sad when I got home; all that sun, sparkle and shine of the Bahamas was intoxicating!

We took tons of photos; here are a few:
