Lovestorun, you can delete my run on July 4. I've had to cancel that one, but I've registered for The Wounded Warrior Project 8K on September 20.

thanks run free... I wanted that crap out of my body. I was super swollen from the taxotere And steroids. But I feel much more myself. I was a heavy trainer 6-7 days a week so this killed me to lay in bed. I had planned to run Chicago full thus October but found bc just before it was time to sign up with my charity.
I'm hoping rads are better and I am working to be strong going in.
Pretty I don't eat anything with a label. Fish chicken eggs salad. No dairy sugar salt. I feel great!

Wow princessrn - that's fantastic!! Way to go! BTW, I don't think there's such a thing as "only" 3 - 4 miles, even when you are healthy. And on the heels of chemo - well, just wow! I hope you find that all of your focus and hard work pays off during radiation this time next month.
Got your changes AnnieLane.... -
Hi -- Happy Canada Day and Happy 4th of July (or whatever you say!)
I've been keeping up with the plan, and very pleased to see that my pace is picking up. I've been focused on making my feet do more work so that it's not all hip flexors, and that is working well for pace and cadence, and I think even for heart rate. I did the 8km from home to Y again today and knocked 2 minutes off the time from 2 weeks ago. I still walked parts of it, but the average pace is improving a lot.
The one flap seems to be swelling some and I have about a month left until my lymphedema clinic appt. My regular massage therapist thought maybe the heat and humidity. I'm just trying to be diligent about the compression and trying to follow the massage instructions in the mean time.
I mayyyyy do a colour run next weekend. (Depends on a family anniversary and whether I can get a shower to get the colours off in time.)
I hope everyone who's not recovering from something has had some good runs in the good weather.
-
Did my Firecracker 5K on the 4th - the course was a LOT hillier than I'd thought, and I HATE HATE HATE hills. But I persevered, and while it wasn't my fastest time ever, I finished in the middle of my age group. And the tech tees they gave out were really nice!

Awesome Nat!

Way to go NatsFan!
After my last surgery and major 8 weeks recovery. After our 10 year anniversary trip to Hawai'i and attempting to do Diamondhead. I made it to the first tunnel and had a full panic attack and fell down. I came to terms with "recovery" and stop comparing my Before Cancer Self (could do 8 miles) to Now ( 1 mile is pushing it). I still have major neuropathy in feet and my left hip hurts so much that somedays I'm either standing or sitting but I can't do both. I have to use my cane on these days.
I have to share with you my goals. So I will keep them. You gals inspire me and keep me leveled headed.
1) I signed up for my first 5K after all treatments for November 2014
2) Today I started over in my running routine and went out in 85F and did 1.95 miles in walk/run routine. My goal is to do a full 5K by Labor Day.
Thank you all for sharing your stories. Helping me see that we can do this!

Way to go FairyDogMother!

Just checking in to see how everyone is enjoying their summer runs!
I had a nice 12k run on Sunday and it was the longest that I have run in over a year, basically since being diagnosed. It felt great but I have to remember that my speed is not the same. I keep reminding myself that my current training is based on increasing distance not speed at this moment. Training for speed will come after the Dopey. The fun thing right now is that pretty much every Sunday run I do between now and January will be a new longest distance since diagnosis
Wishing everyone awesome runs!

Hey - glad to see someone with updates. 12k sounds great! I don't have much to report, because I'm up to 8k - can't find anything to keep my head in it longer than that. So I've been focusing on leg strength and neck/shoulder posture and getting out there as soon as the Garmin's recovery countdown says I can (varies according to how hard and/or far I ran the previous time). It's picking up speed so I am pretty pleased. I know I can do the endurance when I get the event ambiance, but I've been stumped about speed and I think strength is the key to that. I'm itching to get out in an event, but there's nothing right now.
But speaking of... on the calendar, I should add 15km "Midsummer Night's Run" on Aug 16. Not only does the theme call for all manner of fairy wings and tutus, but it supports the children's hospital rheumatology clinic where my daughter was treated, is quite close to home, and runs out to a lighthouse on a spit in Lake Ontario just as the sun sets. Really nice run. It's good timing as a tune-up for the Dumbo Double Dare.
Thanks oncearunner for the wake-up -- how is everyone else doing?
-
Hey, whoo hoo!!! I ran for 2 minutes, 27 seconds tonightto the Beach Boys 'Surfin USA' in the middle of a 35 minute brisk walk! Been fighting plantar fasciitis since March and had some intestinal problems earlier this summer, so I'm tickled with a short run on a hot, humid night !
-
YEAH! Sweet, goldie and once. Honestly I am just walking 3 miles about 4 times a week. I did a little walk/run on the trails last weekend. Good to see some reports. Still working on getting back out there. It may or may not happen with the running however I am still putting miles on my walking shoes.
stay cool ladies...

That is awesome! Way to go everyone on the 12K that sounds like something to look forward too.
-
Way to go once - what an accomplishment! The Dopey challenge - wow! Goldlining, have added you to the list - that race sounds wonderful. And congrats sweetandspecial. Not much new to report here - am also itching to do an event but nothing that fits the schedule between now and labor day weekend. Have joined a group and we do speed workouts once a week and that's been fun. We sometimes do hills and those aren't quite as fun - hah! - but I am determined to get better at them. Trying to build some upperbody strength and that's been, well, comical. The dog seems to think that licking my face will help me with my minipushups : ) Hope all of you are well.

Hi, thought I'd pop over to this thread as I have a few questions about running. I ran when I was younger up to 13 miles and loved it. More recently, prior to the BMX I did mainly gym work but would occasionally run a mile or two. I have low back pain so I try to be careful and not overdo it.
My exchange surgery is on the 20th. I'm only getting around 350-375 cc implants. I wonder if anyone can guide me as to what kind of bra to wear if I do start running again. I fear my new boobs sagging!
Also does anyone remember how long after their exchange they had to wait to exercise?
I really would love to be able to run a few miles again as my husband runs three miles a day.
thanks!
-
I am a DIEP recon, not implants, so will let others answer that, but welcome!
It was a nice day today, and I got 8km in. Shaved 2 mins off my previous run on that route. I am not getting longer distances, but honestly, not worried about finishing the 15k mid-month. The energy of the people will do the trick. Today's run hit a new max heart rate and I got admonished by the Garmin to take THREE days off before running next. Wow. Still debating whether to take my running gear to California (Weds and Thurs). Not sure if I will have any personal time while I'm there and I am taking a small bag. I sorta want to...
Anyway, I hope everyone is having great runs this week!
-
I don't run much (trying to get back into it) but as far as sports bras go I find I don't need anything expensive when I do (750cc implants). I don't have much ptosis and don't get much bounce or jiggle at all. Post-exchange my PS forbade lifting anything over 5lbs for 2 weeks and nothing but walking for targeted working out (absolutely no running!) for a full six weeks.
-
bethq - I was told wait a full six weeks as well. There is a lot of internal healing going on during that time and it is crucial in the healing process to not bounce around.
The Panache 5021 is my favorite workout bra:
http://www.barenecessities.com/panache-ultimate-ma...
I'm running the Cardinals 6k first Sunday in September.
The run/walk method has helped my knee immensely. I can't wait!
-
Those bras look amazing! I've never been a fan of bras prior to the BMX but after my exchange I plan on buying all kinds. I just gave away all of my workout bras and underwires to my daughters. Thanks.

Had my first meeting of the 10K running group Saturday - met the coaches and learned about the program. It's for two kinds of runners - those who have run a few 5Ks but never run a 10K, but also is for people like me who have run 10Ks or longer, but want to improve our speed and otherwise take our running to the next level. On Tuesday evenings we go to a local HS track to do sprints, intervals, and other work. On Thursdays we're given a run to do on our own, and Saturdays mornings (at 7am!?!) we get together with our pace groups to do a long run. They'll also give us a suggested schedule for the non-running days like weights, cross training, and flexibility. They also have speakers come in to discuss nutrition, injury prevention, etc. We'll be assigned pace groups when we get started later this month, and each pace group has two coaches who will work with each of us and help us design an individual program to meet our personal goals
All in all, I think this will be good for me. I'm already doing a pretty balanced program of running, cross training, weights, and yoga, but I have never been good about doing stuff like interval work. I also know there are things I could learn about pacing, taking proper strides, body posture while running, etc.
So thanks everyone for the encouragement to go ahead and join the group. I'll keep you posted on how it goes!
-
Nats, that sounds great. Definitely taking it to the next level. I've just been running aimlessly for years and years, learning as I go. Probably I should join a group for work on the track. I do intervals on a treadmill once or twice a week, then the rest of my running is outside - which I enjoy so much more. I'm an LSD fan - I guess I'm just too lazy to go fast! You sound a lot like me - I cross train w/yoga and weights (and I ride a horse once a week).
Keep us all informed of how this works for you.
-
Welcome bethq!
NatsFan - that sounds like a fabulous group! Do keep us posted. Safe travels gold (and I say, bring the shoes!). LuLu, hope marathon training is going well. -
NatsFan - that program sounds awesome. I did a 'Strides' class at my gym a few years back (not nearly as involved as what you describe) and I learned a LOT. I was a sprinter/hurdler in high school (Still hold a hurdle record!!! and HATED distance running!). Since sprinting is no longer in my cards I try to run (still don't LOVE it but I hate it less than I used to
).
-
Yeah, I think I will bring the shoes
I hope they leave me some evening free time Wednesday. In addition to hoping to do a short run, I also have the address of a nearby running store I could drive to. (I have my eye on a compression shirt but I need to try it to see if it really is compression. Not going to just order something like that online. However, I will be back in the USA around the Disneyland Half at the end of the month, and could go then.)
Natsfan, that training course sounds like great discipline. Everything I know about running, I have learned from the physio to fix what I was doing wrong!
-
Hey lovestorun, I think Estel needs a nudge in the calendar for her "Cardinals 6k first Sunday in September." (That would be the 6th?)
-
goldlining - Thanks! I didn't know the protocol so she she me a PM.
-
Great! We want the race report! Right about now, it's been quite a while since my last numbered bib and I am really starving for good race news. But I'm just 10 days or so from my next one!
-
Soo, just wondering....are there many of you runners out there with implants? Trying to think about size, etc and what will work with running as my exchange surgery is on the 20th.
-
Hi beth - I don't post here often because I don't run a lot right now (5 minutes is about the max but am trying to work into more). Anyway, I'm 5'8", 170 lbs, 33" ribcage with 750cc silicone implants. I don't have much jiggle/bounce even without a bra so I'm able to buy inexpensive sports bras from places like Walmart and Target. Earlier this year (prior to plantar fasciitis!) I was running several miles a week and my implants never caused me any concern or discomfort or pain or twinges of any sort. Some ladies achieve a bit more ptosis than me though and deal with more bounce, so hopefully they'll chime in soon too.
-
Great, I was just about to ask you specifically! That is good to know, thanks.
