Zoladex

Options

Hi Ladies-

So I could not tolerate Tamoxifen made me extremely lethargic and depressed, crying all the time. MO wants me to start Zoladex shots next week....I'm really really nervous about it because of the menopause side effects.  The Tamoxifen was BAD but I could stop it and felt better in 24-36 hrs. With the shot is stays in your system for 1 month.  How  many of you have done this...I just turned 41 and not in menopause so I'm super worried about side effects.  My clinic participated in the SOFT trials so he is confident in the effects of OS followed by Als. Any and all opinions appreciated!!

    Hi there,

I just turned 40 years old a month ago. I have been on monthly Zoladex since Feb 2013. I am also on Anostrazole.

Nothing much to worry about. Totally doable. Side effects for me are a bit of nose bleed, sexual dysfunction, mod swings HOT flushes and  feeling a bit depressed at times with low motivation in doing things. Everyone is different so you might not get the same side effects.

I started running last year and I find it very helpful! I have a healthy diet! Did not gain weight :-) My hair is beautiful ! You can do it!!!

I'm curious about Zoladex, too.  I decided Tamox was not for me since I already have ovarian cysts & didn't like the idea of growing more.  Also possibly have endometriosis which could get worse on Tamox.  The only other viable options were Zoladex or oopherectomy.  Lovely options....not.  :(

For now, I chose Zoladex due to it's reversible nature.  I have an appointment to start Z. injections this next Monday.  Nervous about side effects....the big unknown.  I'm still burdened (depressed) by my diagnosis and having 3 surgeries in less than a year.

Anyone else taking Zoladex currently....or stopped due to SE or other reasons?

Wow, it is so good to hear, dimidani, that your SE have been doable! I am almost two weeks into my first Zoladex injection, supposed to start Anastrozole in a few days. I'm also 42 and not yet in menopause... or at least, I wasn't. I can't do Tamoxifen because of previous DVT, so it's this or nothing. Like formerteacher I am TERRIFIED of all the possible ways this combination could make me look and feel terrible. I'm really, really happy to hear someone say her experience hasn't been so bad! I hope others can second that.

Oh, and my MO put me on CoQ-10, Biotin, and, of course, calcium and D-3 to mitigate the symptoms. And exercise, which I hear so many people say has helped them. I know it has made me feel better post-BMX.

Here's wishing "do-able" to us all!
