macatacmv - I have a BIL and a nephew who were in the marines. Once a marine-always a marine! Lol. I can't imagine the worry you went through. At least my son is pretty safe on an aircraft carrier! I thank your son for his service.
We have three horses and one miniature donkey at home. We keep our two mares at a friend's house in California. We have two dogs. A German Shorthair Pointer named Ozzie and a miniature Schnauzer named Sally. They are my best buddies!
I enjoy staying at home. I must confess I can be something of a hermit if no one pushes me to leave the house. Bird watching has become an enjoyable past time for me as well.
Lisa - technology certainly has made military deployments a little easier on families. On my son's first deployment, he wrote us letters and they had phones on the ship, but they could only use them occasionally. Plus they were monitored, so if you said anything that was forbidden they cut off the call. We had to be careful not to ask about lots of things like where he was. Lol He can email most of the time, but now can only call when he is in port.
I can't imagine having a baby while my husband was away on active duty - let alone Vietnam! You must have lots of stories to tell.
Well, it's time to walk the dogs and check on the horses before it gets dark. Wishing you all a good night!
Hugs, lilyrose

My hummingbird was watching the sunset with me
-
Lisa, Your photos are just amazing. It's a talent to see what will make a good photo.
-
Thanks Wren. I just do it for the fun of it.
-
Thank you Lisa that is so beautiful.
-
All I can say Lisa is gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!!! Both the butterfly and the hummer are just stunning photography!!
-
Lisa, I always look forward to your photos. They show what a nice and sensitive person you must be. If I had your skill, I could have made some really good pictures at my sister's in Iowa, instead of one with a finger! She had birds that I have never seen in Alabama, and I really enjoyed just sitting and watching. Wilsie
-
I remember bugging Lisa years and years ago to "post another daily flower pic"!!!!
-
Thanks everyone, as I said I just do the pictures for fun...I learned digital photography when I was going through chemo and it was something I could do at home. It kept me sane...
and I know Barbe, I don't do the artistic..but that is just me..

makes me want to take a photography glass.

Hi girls! I've had a lovely day today celebrating my DH's birthday and our 45th Wedding Anniversary! I can't believe all those years have passed as it seems like only yesterday.........my how time flies. It's been an interesting ride I must say..........lol........and hopefully the fun has not stopped yet!
Lisa you know how I feel about your photography and you are very good at what you do for 'fun'. I have seen pics in galleries that were no where near as good and detailed as yours and they were selling for a lot of money so never stop having 'fun' with you camera as I just love your work!
Tired now........yes I'm finally admitting I'm tired........maybe my batteries need changing......lol. A good sleep should fix that so I'll catch you all again tomorrow! Take care!
Love n hugs. Chrissy

Chrissy...
-
Happy Birthday to your dh, Chrissy, and congratulations to both of you. Today, July 12, is my 45th anniversary!
-
Give that DH of yours a hug from me and well done in surviving 45 years.
-
So..... the sirens sent us running for the shelter twice this evening. Fortunately everyone is OK. My friend was driving home from work Thursday when there was a siren. She had to stop her car, get out, and crouch next to it.
Tonight is also my anniversary (38 years). Party in the shelter.
Chrissy, happy anniversary. Please don't celebrate the way we did.
Leah
-
Wow, lots of anniversaries right now. Congratulations to all you newlyweds.
Stay safe Leah. Sounds like you have a good warning system, but crouching by your car? Not sure how that would help. When I was a kid the school told us if we saw a tornado on our way home, to lay down in the street next to the curb. Fortunately we never had to try it.
-
Chrissy, Congratulations! Wish your DH a happy birthday too!
Congrats to you too, Carole!
Leah, Stay safe! Happy anniversary to you too!
-
Happy Anniversary to Chrissy, Carole, and Leah, and happy birthday to Chrissy's DH! We had a lot of July brides here!
Lisa, your photos are so gorgeous! Hope you'll be able to get some of that incredible moon tonight. We're about 3 hours ahead of you and earlier here it was orange, now not so much.
Kathy
-
Thank you girls for your lovely good wishes!!! Happy Anniversary to you Carole and Leah! July sure was and is a good month......lol. I shall pass your Birthday wishes onto DH as soon as he gets home.
Oh Leah how terrible that you are in such danger! I do hope with all my heart that you and yours stay safe.
It's freezing here today!.........6F which for us is very cold and the wind drops that down to about 2F! All I can say is thank goodness for heaters and warm dressing gowns!
Take it easy and stay safe all!
Love n hugs. Chrissy
-
So far no moon tonight here Kathy...I wish it had been clearer last night on the bay but it wasnt
-
Lisa that pic is just amazing!!! I just love the skyline with the bridge (I remember that one) and the moon........fabulous combination!
-
Lisa, I never said your pics weren't "artistic"!!! I have always admired your shots and encouraged you to keep posting them! I am hurt that you felt you had to defend yourself.
-
Sorry Barbe you felt that way..I meant it more that you are artistic and I am not..your talents are wonderful. I just didn't inherit the artistic gene my mother and sister have...my bad
-
BTW, I just took this picture..the butterfly was flying around where we keep the garbage pails..who knew
-
Sorry you couldn't see the moon last night Lisa, but I love the picture of it earlier too! It's still beautiful tonight here, but not the same orange as last night. The butterfly is fantastic!
DH plans to take DGS#1 to the airport in Charlotte tomorrow to see the planes takeoff and land. He's been to the little airport here and loves it--a couple of pilots have actually let him go on their planes and sit in the cockpit. Should be a nice treat for him with kindergarten looming the last week of this month.
We've canned green beans and made pickles from the garden this weekend and the house hasn't been touched, so I guess my work is cut out for me tomorrow with laundry and cleaning. Ugh!
Hope all had a good weekend!
Kathy

it really was this color...I didn't have my tripod so it isn't very clear..but beautiful
-
Wow and Wow again!!!! Even when the moon is full down here, we certainly don't get that incredible view! Lisa, photography is so subjective and what one person photographs well another cannot. No matter how hard I try, I cannot capture what you do when you photograph flowers. I do much better with landscapes.
It's not always what you capture either, it's also how you edit and that is a true art form..........you have indeed inherited an artistic flare even if you don't think so.
Art and artistry is so different and we all have some of it.........the ability to furnish and finish our homes, arrange a vase of flowers, the way a garden is laid out and planted, how a garment is designed and sewn, how a simple needle and thread can pain a picture on a piece of cloth and the list goes on and on and on. The trick is to be able to see that art in everything and not everyone can do that. Blessed are the ones who can do that.
Kathy I remember taking my son and grandsons when they were little to see the big planes at the airport........they used to love it!!!! Cheapest outing I ever came across......lol.....but one that was talked about for weeks! Hope your DGS has as much fun with the visit to see the big planes.
Still sitting around like a slug.....lol. I keep forgetting I'm only six weeks out and keep trying to do too much so end up with two legs that I would rather cut of to get rid of the ache.......one day I will learn......hahahahaha! It's not all my fault though, DH seems to think that because I can walk around without aid that I am fully healed.......I think I need to put him straight and just tell him that his time of nurse maid is not yet done..........lol.
Have a great day all!
Love n hugs. Chrissy

Good Morning everyone, at least here it is morning! I am being inspired by the beautiful photos and the photo opportunities I have at this house to buy a digital SLR camera. I took photography at Maryland Institute way way way back in time, but with my kids and life I have let it slip. The phone pics are ok, it certainly is handy, but no where near the control. But since I am a big researcher before buying it will probably take me a while.
Lisa, love the hummer sitting still. Mine are too nervous.
Happy anniversary to all you wonderful ladies. I know it is a lot of work!!! lol I am sure there are lots of great times, too!
Leah, oh how I pray for peace and safety for you!!!
Chrissy, yes, rest and recupe! DD is counting the days until she can walk again. 6 days (maybe I am counting too!) I think we all try to do too much after being not being able to "do" for a while.
That is one of the big lessons I have been taught lately, I don't always have to be doing, I can just be!
I, too, believe we are all artistic in one way or another. Even being very organized takes talent. We all have gifts to share with others. Like lately I have a real talent for taking a nap!
There is some small sail boat regatta going on this morning. Lots of one design boats sailing around and it is kinda foggy so not great light, but very fun to watch.
lily, thanks for letting me know more about you. I have one dog. She is a 3 year old lab/boxer mix. Very energetic! She has kept me walking every day even when I don't think I can. I know what you mean about best buddies. I think sometimes animals can just give such great comfort, without asking questions.
kathy, whew, take a breath from all your weekend "work" before you tackle the house.
-
here is my "super" moon pic. the pic doesn't do it justice tho. It was soooo big and bright! You can just see one of the ferries going by on the right.
-
Mac, my daughter in law bought me a hummingbird swing..I never thought I would see them use it but they do..I love it.
My little sister in my sorority lives in West Falmouth and taught school there. We have often visited her often and one day we
were about to jump a ferry from Woods Hole, but it didn't work out..maybe next time we can connect. I love the moon across the water
chrissy, tell your DH you are not quite up to all you do quite yet...the more he helps you the faster you will be on your feet.
this week is busy with watching grandkids..I must learn patience...
