Hi all. Just dropping in again. Lisa, may I ask you what kind of camera you use. If it is an SLR what are your favorite lens. Love the pics here. I was all ready to get out and take some photos of my flowers for the first time in a very long time and it started raining. I just finished rads but I am still in shoulder therapy and I have not been able to hold the camera like I needed to the last few months.

Your hummingbird pic is so cute. How did you get the border on that pic. I have been dabbling in photography and have not ventured into the photo editing yet but I want to.

Keep all those pics coming. They are beautiful.

hi Bandwoman, welcome! That's a lovely photo with or without editing. We are waiting on that rain. When you're done with it send it east. The flowers will be more beautiful when they are hydrated. 

so I just reminded myself to hydrate, too.

Lisa, I was wondering your connection to the Woods Hole area. I saw your photos from last year. Yes, we should connect someday. A hummingbird swing? who knew!

So my DD just got home and I asked if she would call the woman about the tile in the bathroom and she got huffy and crutched off into her bedroom. She said she doesn't like to talk on the phone! All she ever does is interact with that device. Oh well, it's the small stuff and I will not sweat over it.

I just moved up my appt with my MO to this friday. I am having some weird pains in other breast now. It is probably nothing, but I don't want to worry for a whole nother month.

Thanks Macatacmv. I noticed your avatar of the hot air balloon. Were you in that pic. I did a hot air balloon excursion a few years back. I am slightly obsessed with them. I would like to take another ride sometime. I loved it.  This year would be a good time to celebrate with my active tx being over!

yes, bandwoman, that is my DD and I. We went for a ride in Winter Park, CO for my 60th bday. It was right before dx. I knew I had to have another view on my mammo and did not have a great feeling about how urgent they were to get me back in. I said I am going to visit my DD and have some fun. It was a wonderful ride. It was early Nov, so just a dusting of snow. It was funny because there was a promotion going on about "where in the world was Matt Lauer?" So people were being encouraged to take a picture of "flat matt" and take him with you on adventures. The people running the hot air balloon company, had taken a picture of him and cemented it to a flat stick. So he went on the ride with us. We were actually featured on the Today Show's website the next week. lol

Band, I have what they call a bridge camera between a point and shoot and SLR..I have only one lens but it is a 50 optical zoom

I had a really good SLR for film with all the lenses and I vowed never to do that again..so I have only on lens..

That is a great view. I am glad you got the ride in before "the news". Good for you. The Matt Lauer on a stick is hilarious. When I took my balloon ride I took a bunch of pics. At that time I hadn't had my digital camera very long. I was visiting my mom and needed more room on my card so I started deleting pics that I thought I had uploaded to my computer. I started deleting my balloon pics and then I got this sick feeling in my gut. I didn't remember creating a balloon file. Well the sad reality was I hadn't and I deleted a good portion of those pics. Now what do you suppose my solution to this problem is? Another balloon ride of course. LOL Haven't decided when and if now that my poor bank account has already taken a big hit with this dx. Then again it might be a good celebration that the active tx are over.

My first digital was a bridge camera as well and it was so much easier to use than my digital SLR. I swear I learn all the functions and heaven knows I have read so many photography books but then when I go for periods of time that I am not able to shoot I forget so much. It drives me crazy. I am determined though. I would love to take some photography classes but my sister and I are caregivers for my mom. My mom lives three hours away from me so the last three years  I have felt like I have dual residency. Now with my March dx I haven't even seen my mom since January.
So I think the idea of taking a class is out for the time being. I do have a question. I tried to upload a picture to my avatar on here and it comes up "missing." I am not sure if my file is too large or what. My desktop computer has temporarily died until I can get someone to lift it into my car for me. I have an injured rotator cuff and have been in PT for that right along with rads. Most of my pics are in that computer.

Thanks for sharing. I have a Nikon D90 SLR. I could have it for a life time and still learn functions on it! I wanted a challenge and I got it.

Lisa, I know a good photographer can use a phone camera and still capture a great pic. You are definitely one of those that has the eye and feel for a good picture.

Hi Bandwoman and a big welcome to the thread........I'm a bit late as it seems you have settled in well and that's a good thing........lol.

Love, love, love all the pics that are flying around......get it, flying around? balloons? Oh that was soooo bad, what was I thinking, maybe I wasn't .....hahahahaha!  But really, all the pics that have been posted are just beautiful.......maybe I should pull out a few of mine and show you some of the country side where I live.

Just before sunup with the mist still hanging.  Taken on my phone coz I didn't have my camera with me.....boo!  It could have been sooo much better but it's not too bad.  Lisa, I'm still using the camera I bought with me when I was over there but have been saving and I now have almost  $1000 so I can begin to look at what is available.  I did see one I wanted but at nearly $7000 I don't think that is going to happen........lol.  I do want to be able to change lenses as I want a really good zoom as well as a macro. I can do macro with this camera but I'm not really happy with it beside, this one is a bit long in the tooth now as I bought it five years ago, actually just thinking, it was six years ago so it's a bit past it besides drowning it in water only a few months after buying it didn't help so I'm surprised it has done this long with no real problems.  It cost me $700 when I bought it so it was expensive even back then.

Oh god!  I'm rambling!!!  Some one shake me please!!!!!  Okay, I'm good now, thanks for that......lol

Nancy your ballon trip sounds great!  I was wanting to go on one until my youngest DD went on one with her fiancé and they crash landed over power lines ............everyone was okay thank goodness but they sure were shook up!  It sort of put me off the thought but I can imagine just moving along silently while the landscape below just moved on past.......beautiful!   Oh I remember that 'where on earth is Matt Lauer.'  He sure turned up in some funny places........lol.

Better go and do some research on my next camera!......there are sooooo many to choose from!

Lisa, you captured that gorgeous color beautifully!  So very unusual to see.

I loved all the pictures posted here of the moon!  I heard on the news we have another moon like this before summer's end so that's something to look forward to.

Welcome, Bandwoman!  Glad to have you.  I envy you your ability to take a balloon ride, since that's something I'll never do.  Fear of heights, big time.  I don't even like stairs!

Chrissy, you've made such incredible progress to be already released from the doctor!  Nevertheless, please do let DH know you still will need help until you feel confident in your ability.  Often we try to do more than we should and get a set-back, and you don't need that!  BTW, DGS loved watching the planes!  There's a nice observation area, with picnic tables, etc, where people can see take-offs and landings. I had no idea it existed, but DH found it on-line.

Chrissy,  I am thinking it is definitely time for you to get a new camera. Just the one You want. The sensors are better now so you will so enjoy it . When you were here you had kind of a hard time getting in and out of the car to take your pictures so many were taken from the window and at times from a moving car at that.And you got some great shots. No time like the present. Hugs

Loved your pics flying around analogy! I didn't mention that we landed the balloon in someones backyard. We hit this little tree on the way down. When we landed so quickly I said which tree did we hit and this guy says the one that is hanging over. LOL I can't imagine landing in wires. YIKES. I hope everyone was okay. Your pic is beautiful AND just like I said before....a good photographer can take pics with even a camera phone. Voila.

You ladies are more adventurous than I am!  I doubt I will ever take a balloon ride.  Guess I will have to use my imagination to experience what it's like being up in the air and moving over the ground below.  Is it quiet?  Or does the motor make a noise?  There is a motor of some sort to propel you upward and along?  And how do you control landing?  Would love to hear what it's like.

The balloons themselves are so colorful and call for being photographed.  There's a big balloon festival in New Mexico every year. 

I have gone through periods when I took a lot of photos, trying to document my travels or experiences to share with others or capture for myself, but dh and I have concluded that the photographing can interview with the "experiencing" for us.  When we were in Alaska, we took some airplane trips in small planes with a few passengers besides ourselves.  We were amused that some of them didn't see anything out the windows except through the camera lens!  It was as though capturing the sights in photos was the purpose of the flight.

We all have our passions and outlets for creativity.  The current desktop on my laptop is a beautiful picture I took from our hotel room at Mt. Cook in NZ.  Sitting on a bench on the balcony and gazing out at the magnificent view was such a pleasure. 

Here in northern MN, it has been very cool.  Yesterday was the coolest July 14th in recorded weather history in Minneapolis/St. Paul.  It didn't  get warmer than the 50's (F) in our area.  Today is starting out sunny and dh and I will play golf and walk, using our pushcarts.

I am too much of a chicken to take a balloon ride...In my youth I was adventurous but now not so much. But boy are they

fun to watch...we happened on the New York Balloon festival without knowing about it. The parking lot was full so the man

at the gate told us to go to the fast food place nearby if we just wanted to see what was up...so we did and wow, was it 

fun.I was so happy I had my camera in the car..so I could enjoy it time after time. I have never been to another one.

here's a funny story. When I was young and wild I took a motorcycle ride thru Mexico and Central America with my boyfriend. It was the mid seventies. We met up with and traveled with a couple that were traveling with a hot air balloon. Their thinking was it could provide cash for their travels by offering rides to people along the way. Well, my boyfriend got to go up and I had to drive the chase car because I could drive a stick shift car. Talk about wild: driving thru the countryside in a foreign country chasing a hot air balloon. The memory is a little hazy. lol but I got pictures stuck in an album somewhere hidden so my kids can't find it.

So anyway, a ride in the sky was something I've wanted to do for a long time. It is a lot like sailing. You have to play the wind to get where you are going. When the blower for the heat isn't on it is silent. But they do have the open flame roaring up toward the balloon to fill it with hot air to lift it and then turn it off to lower it. I was surprised I wasn't more frightened. Heights and fire are not my favorite things. My adventurous DD was more afraid. I have a new attitude about doing things I want to do, Hey what's the worst that can happen? I've had a great ride. Of course, now when I hear about the accidents I think how blessed I have been through out my whole life!

Have I told ya'll that my DD and I are planning a trip to Austria? It will be the end of August. I have a  dear friend who's DD is getting married outside of Vienna. What an excuse to go, eh?

Macatac, a great story!  I can visualize you driving through the country following a hot air balloon!  I've never been to Austria.  Hope you'll tell us about your experiences.

The balloon ride was awesome. Even though they warned us that the temp up there will be the same as on the ground I was dressed for cooler temps and I was so hot. I was right next to the pilot and when they stoke the flame it is quite loud. It was not peaceful like I thought it would be. We saw all sorts of wildlife that were scared of us. They say that the balloon emits a high pitched sound that dogs can hear but we cannot. Dogs went crazy barking at us. To tell you the truth I am not sure how they navigate the balloon. I do know we had trouble landing. I could hear the pilot talking to the car that was chasing us and he said we can't land here which was a golf course. A balloon is considered a small aircraft like a small plane and have to abide by the rules of whatever county they are in. I know he was trying to land in one spot and it didn't work so that is how we ended up in someone's backyard. To celebrate they have champagne and non alcoholic champagne for me as I don't drink at all. We formed a circle and they recited this balloonist's prayer. We got to keep the champagne glass as a momento. We then all went to a restaurant which was all part of the package and we shared pics since everyone had a digital camera with them. It was great fun and I want to do it again. Since I just finished rads a July 3 I figured maybe this would be a good year to celebrate with another balloon ride. We'll see.

Bandwoman, I was is Naperville twenty years ago now when I did some training with the U. of Chicago, NORC. I was a medical research interviewer for them here in San Diego for a nationwide HIV/AIDS study. That project lasted over two years. Needless to say it was when it was a disease that was not controlled back then...a mind expanding experience.

I wouldn't exactly call myself adventurous but if something interests me I tend to become quite passionate about it. I see you are a retired teacher as well. I am a retired band director. Fiction writer too. Sounds awesome.
