Tamoxifen after 50 ?
Hi again, After SE from aromasin and arimidex, I am now being told to try Tamoxifen. I am 53, went through menopause years ago, and was wondering if this is a good drug to take ? Anyone else doing this ? thanks

I'll be 54 on Tuesday, but still premenopausal and I'm taking it. For me it is the only option right now.

hi Lisa, I am in exactly the same place. AI for a year, too many SEs , so trying tamoxifen. I had a bad rash develop after taking 20 mg/dy for two weeks. But aside from that I felt so, so much better! I stopped all meds for a week and started back on tamoxifen at 10mg and after 10 days no rash yet. Definitely try it, I don't ache anymore or feel hyper, anxious and ready to go off on someone . Hope you do well, I think the rash is very unusual and perhaps due to overlap of tamoxifen and arimidex.

I had been on Arimidix for 7 months and had joint and muscle issues as well as foggy thinking. I have been trying Femara for the last month, but I'm considering going to Tamoxifen too.

Hi Lisa. I am 59. I was on Femara for the recommended 5 years and suffered with the painful joints and stiffness the entire time, not to mention extreme vaginal dryness. My tumor was a pretty big one and I had 2+ nodes so instead of going completely net free. my onc and I decided I would take Tamoxifen for 5 (maybe more?) years. This also allows me to use Vagifem for the intimacy issues as it blocks excess estrogen rather than inhibiting the production like an AI.
I have been on it about 2 years now.So far, so good. No more aches and pains and most of the stiffness is gone.
Good luck!

LisaG, I'm 59, post-menopausal, hysterectomy/oophorectomy and have been on Tamoxifen for a little over a month. Few SE's for me so far. A few night sweats now and then. My bone density test showed osteoporosis and osteopenia, so trying this first instead of aromatase inhibitors. Then, will do another bone density test in a couple yrs and go from there. My MO said it's not unusual to use Tamoxifen for a couple of yrs and then switch to Armidex. I am also taking Vit D and calcium supplements.
Good luck!

I'm on it at 52. I believe something is better than nothing. No period since 10/2010, but estrogen level still high. I'm not going to switch to an aromatase inhibitor because I already have osteopenia in my left hip.
