Suzie - I think you're posting on the wrong thread if you want to make fun of the President of the United States.

    Hi Gal Pals,

It's about 80 degrees today and very humid.  I've been busy digging up about 100 iris plants/bulbs and moving them to the area by my pergola.  Had I known what a huge task this was going to be I may not have started it!  The iris garden was overrun with weeds, roots and berry vines and I needed to do something about it.  They are mostly a deep purple velvet color, but I have a few that my dad gave from his garden in San Diego that are bright yellow.  I can't let them die, as they remind me so much of my dad when I see them bloom.

So .. was our President chewing Nicorette?  How does anyone even know what kind of gum, if he was even chewing gum, he had in his mouth.  Personally, I think I would rather he just lit up a cigarette.

    hugs,

    Bren

Maybe Suzie meant to say the big fuss on Twitter was tacky, not what Obama was chewing?

I think it was very disrespectful of him - he could have worn a patch or abstained.

C4C - I remember watching Obama's speech at the 2012 Democratic Convention and I remember remarking to my friend, at the time, I thought Obama had some health issue as he kept licking the inside of his lower lip during that speech (there was no gum in his mouth).  I had not seen him do this before and it was very obvious and I was surprised no journalists were noting this - though they probably have bettter manners than the general public.  I'm sure the speech is on C-Span somewhere, as I was watching it on my computer on C-Span.  It could be some sort of dry mouth syndrome.

I found the speech on Youtube - can't post link.

Suzie, chewing gum? Really?  Do you comment about their racism?  "Tacky chewing gum" would be nothing compared to their exhibits of hatred.  Worse than tacky..

I saw part of President Obama's speech and never got the impression that he was chewing gum.   Did I miss something?  He has always done a  thing with his lips but I don't find it disrespectful at all.

I didn't notice it either, but I wasn't paying close attention. I know he has struggled to stop smoking. I think people who are quitting smoking sometimes chew gum to help combat the cravings.

OMG - I was making excuses for the poor guy chewing something (if he actually did).  I forgot, everything he does is wrong!  What's next - lol?  I'm sorry I even joined that (evil) party.  What was I thinking!

OMFG - now chewing gum is disrespectful?  Did anyone bother to consider the PRESSURE the President of the United States was experiencing - PLUS THE EMOTION WHICH HE SPOKE OF - MISSING HIS GRANDFATHER WHO RAISED HIM - who also happened to FIGHT IN PATTON'S ARMY - damn.  I am SO phuquing sick of it, and didn't expect to have to read it on this thread.  Nor will I participate in a thread where I have to block someone.

    I'm done.

Oh my goodness. The right wing must really be running out of things to find wrong when chewing gum is all they've got. I'll bet none of them ever ever chew gum. Couldn't or they wouldn't cast the first proverbial stone.

I think it's a big leap to assume that Suzie is racist because she thinks chewing gum is disrespectful. Not sure if that is what some of you are implying, but if I was Suzie, I would certainly take it that way.

I think we are all reflexively protective of President Obama because so much crap is thrown at him, but sometimes a hat is just a hat. I was brought up that one shouldn't chew gum in church or other important places, so it sort of strikes me wrong when I see someone doing it. Would you block me too?

You know what's interesting, this might be the first time the Right Wingnuts gave a damn about what a Frenchman thinks.  Now they're using their villains as witnesses!  (Alas, continuing to confuse who really is a hero and really who is a villain.)

Come on girls - we were all friends before this blog foolishly allowed political posts. You all know I disagree with the politics of the left.  I couldn't give a stuff if your president is black or white - what he did was disrespectful at such an occasion.

Watch out Canada - our PM is on his way for a visit.

Just got here, so feel a bit at a loss but my first impression ( since this thread is pretty much for left side  types ) is along the line of -- maybe it was more just poor word choices.  I don't tend to be critical of the Pres. just because he has worked very hard, managed to do a huge list of amazing things that the U.S. really needed done, and has had to do with the likes of McConnell, Boehner, Cruz et al.  I don't actually agree with all that he has done but I've found things I did not like with all our Presidents.

I actually pretty much kept my mouth shut when Baby Bush was in --- though it was not at all easy.  He was horrid and President Obama has been mopping up after him ever since he took the office.

    Love the graphics Blue.

    Jackie

ETA:  Guess it wasn't a poor words choice.

Suzie has never made it a secret that she leans to the right. Don't know why anyone is surprised. I just think calling her a racist(and that's what it feels like to me) is a little extreme.

Not aimed at you suzie.  Just some comments I read....meh!

Yrmal. it is disrespectful but those nuts will grab onto everything that poor man does.  It is wrong, wrong, wrong!  If they didn't criticize EVERYTHING he does, including breathing,  I might have let it pass.

Susie, I dislike nutjobs no matter where they come from.   Islam, Canada, USA, Italy.  If there is good in the one though, there is good in the whole (a favourite saying I heard on Murdoch) so we can't hate the whole!
