    As some others have already suggested, if the President came out in favour of breathing, would the RWNJs stop inhaling?

    Wow!  We've gone from a supposedly gum-chewing President all the way to hating Islam!  I've observed that the rigid fundamentalist Muslim, as evidenced by the Taliban in Afghanistan, seems to resemble the rigid fundamentalist Christian in the US.  The parallels are astounding (not to mention very, very scary) when you begin to examine the beliefs, behaviours and political aspirations of both.  And the religious fundamentalists of both religions specialize in breeding hatred of the other, spreading their hatred into the population at large.

    I worked with several Muslim Canadians, all of whom -- to a person -- were the kindest, most moral folks one could hope for.

    Sorry - I can't approve of little girls being butchered with female circumcision, 9 or 12 year olds being married off - yes these things happen in our country - trials for these offences are in progress. Now they are wanting Sharia Law to be brought in here - maybe you don't have that many Muslims in your country - we are being overrun like in the UK and France - all of the so called refugees we have here is astonishing and they live off the taxpayers purse.

    Go right ahead and laugh (you know who you are).  You have made a laughingstock of the Republican Party and have taken the USA down with you!   The laugh is on YOU!  Poor Ronnie is turning in his grave!

    In addition - I did work with a Muslim lady from Iran - yes she was a lady - no crappy muslim dress like the burkah - she actually dressed very fashionably. I can't condone their treatment of their women. I know they are not all bad, but the vast majority are.

    You know it happened with the Irish, it happened with the Italians.  When there is an influx from any one country, the prejudices start.  My parents have been there, and done that!  The immigrants tend to stick together which can cause fear of the unknown.

    Thankfully, things have changed somewhat.

    Other than the female circumcision, the extreme religious, Christian right practice or would like similar here. I don't hate Christianity. I am a Christian myself, in fact. I don't like it when people say they hate Christianity because of the extremists, so I refuse to hate Islam because they have some extremists.

    Blue - Australia was founded on immigration - the Greeks and Italians are proud Australians who made new lives here. Our problem is that the Muslims will not integrate into our society.

    Suzie - The US and Canada are made up of immigrants too - except for the Native Canadians who were here first and now make up a little more than 3% of the population.  I am first generation Canadian on my father's side and second on my mother's. I guess that makes me the product of immigrants too.   Some of my ancestors migrated to Australia (voluntarily, I think) so they are adding to the mosaic there.

    So horrible -- The Bergdahls have been receiving threats serious enough for the FBI to investigate.  And their community is suffering too.  Their Presbyterian minister has been quoted in the local paper, saying they're so surprised and hurt by this recent turn of events.  Mr. Bergdahl learned some words in Pashto in order to try to understand the people who were holding his son captive.  For doing so, he's being accused of turning Muslim.   As someone else said, "Haters gonna hate".  It seems everyone needs to have an enemy -- either real or imagined.

    I know there's a very active organization in Oz called the Australian Defence League, whose objective is to stir up anti-Muslim sentiment and violence.  Yes, haters gonna hate.

    This is the type of news the Rightwing Nut Jobs get from Fox News?  They've lost it.  Seriously, do they know what they are consuming?  Bergdahl's father claimed the White House for Islam?  Seriously?  Bergdahl's father looks like a Member of the Taliban [why? because he has beard like that Duck Dynasty guy?], some Lt Col calling for him to be shot or hung because he apparently has forgot the part where somebody gets a trial first?

    This is why Bergdahl's father needs protection by the FBI.  These looney tunes.  My God.  I'm in disbelief at the kind of propaganda some Americans are willing to consume.  This is seriously scarey.

    Hyperlinks work if you want to actually watch this s***

    Allen West Promotes "Bombshell" That Bergdahl's Father "Sanctified" The White House And "Claimed It For Islam." In a June 2 post on his website, Fox News contributor Allen West promoted a "bombshell," "very poignant" email from a senior fellow at Frank Gaffney's Center for Security Policy. In the email, Clare Lopez claims Bergdahl's father used a specific Arabic phrase at the White House, which "sanctified the WH and claimed it for Islam. There is no question but POTUS knows this." [AllenBWest.com, 6/2/14, via Think Progress]

    Fox Doc Keith Ablow: Bergdahl Release Reveals Obama Does Not Have "Americanism In His Soul." Fox News Medical A-Team member Keith Ablow claimed on Fox & Friends that the release of Bergdahl revealed that President Obama does not have "Americanism in his soul. And this swap, somebody who may not feel very American for five people who definitely don't, is symptomatic of that. It was bound to happen, when you have a leader who doesn't affiliate with patriotism." [Fox News, Fox & Friends, 6/4/14]

    Fox Business Guest "Very, Very Concerned About The Mental Stability Of This President."Psychotherapist Gina Loudon, appearing on Lou Dobbs' Fox Business program, said she was "very, very concerned about the mental stability of this president" following the Bergdahl release. According to Loudon, "some of his behavior seems irrational to me, it seems beyond that of just a typical, narcissistic, arrogant, sort of, I'm a leader of a big country and I feel tyrannical at the moment kind of attitude. It really seems to me like this president is demonstrating behavior that is not only anti-American, but irrational and erratic and perhaps, not exactly what we might want to deem sane." [Fox Business, Lou Dobbs Tonight, 6/3/14]

    Ralph Peters: U.S. Used To Shoot, Hang, And Brand Deserters. Fox contributor Lt. Col. Ralph Peters called the Obama administration's handling of the Bergdahl case "Benghazi 2.0" and dismissed calls from the administration to wait for an investigation into Bergdahl's capture, instead insisting Bergdahl was a deserter and emphasizing that the U.S. used to go after deserters and when we got them "we shot them or hanged them, or if we were in a good mood, we would brand them with a 'D' on their cheeks or forehead. When we became enlightened in the twentieth century, we still shot some, but we always sent them to prison or to hard labor." [Fox News, The Kelly File, 6/3/14]

    Brian Kilmeade Suggests Bergdahl's Father "Look[s] Like A Member Of The Taliban."Attacking the beard Bergdahl's father reportedly grew out of solidarity with his son, Fox & Friendsco-host Brian Kilmeade said: "I mean, he says he was growing his beard because his son was -- because his son was in captivity. Your son's out now. If you really don't, no longer want to look like a member of the Taliban, you don't have to look like a member of the Taliban. Are you out of razors?" [Media Matters, 6/3/14]

    Bill O'Reilly: Bergdahl's Father "Looks Like A Muslim." Discussing Bergdahl's father's May 31 Rose Garden appearance, Fox News host Bill O'Reilly said, "[h]e has learned to speak the language of the Taliban and looks like a Muslim, actually thanking Allah right in front of the president." [Media Matters, 6/3/14]

    Laura Ingraham On Bergdahl's Father: "If He Wasn't So Light-Skinned, He Actually Looks Like The Terrorists." Referencing O'Reilly's "revelations," ABC News and Fox News contributor Laura Ingraham told her radio audience that if Bergdahl's father "wasn't so light-skinned, he actually looks like the terrorists." [Media Matters, 6/3/14]

    I just want to congratulate my President! This was an email I got from The League for Conservation Voters (title of the email was, Is Obama the next Teddy Roosevelt?):

    "Exciting news! President Obama just designated our newest park, New Mexico’s Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument, protecting nearly 500,000 acres of beautiful, historic, and culturally significant lands. The president took action in response to robust support from local communities. They wanted to see this special place permanently protected so nearby communities could boost local tourism and quality of life. And President Obama listened to their call!"

    I won't report a post, and I WILL NOT PARTICIPATE IN A THREAD WHICH THIS IS POSTED:

    "no crappy muslim dress like the burkah"

    Disgusting.  This simplistic thinking is so destructive.

    I won't even repeat the hatred of an entire group of people.  But I'm so surprised at the other women who post on this thread?  Are you willing to allow this kind of language, hatred?  This is not a spectrum on the political scale - this is hatred.  Not "left or right."

    And lack of knowledge, as if FGM had anything to do with organized religion.  Just plain ole fashioned ignorance.  Or as Blue use to say, idjuts.

    Thanks for the pm Jackie, but this is too much.

    Just saw the funniest cartoon (but can't post it here because I'm a Mac user).  Anyhow, it shows a Texan with two assault weapons slung over his shoulders and a pair of pistols in holsters paying for a pack of gum in a 7/11.  The female clerk looks him up and down, and finally says "Have you tried Viagra?".

    My question still stands:  What happens when Open Carry meets Stand Your Ground?

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Kam, you know what thoughtless and immature folks do when they're caught in a lie -- they make up even bigger and more ridiculous lies.  I think that probably explains all the crap spewing forth from Faux Noise.  And according to a recent poll, Colbert Report watchers are more knowledgeable and politically aware than Faux Noise watchers (in particular) and all the cable and broadcast network watchers as well.
    So.....I guess that explains a lot, doesn't it?
    C for C.....that does explain a lot.  When a bunch of stupid people get together fueled by people like Murdock and the Koch's, then they only get more illiterate to the point where they make no sense at all.  I still say --- so many of them seem not to have a clue as to how they appear to others who have a high ability to understand ( unaffected by money and grand schemes ) and can see the freedom that  common sense dispenses and can make accurate conclusions based on that same common sense.
    Otherwise the brain fog dispensed by the Faux False News idjuts is meant to rile and disturb and has nothing but bad karma attached.  So glad its theirs and not mine.
    Suzieq, no that's not ok. Fundamentalists of all stripes scare me, especially those in our military and government. Would I say I hate Christians? No, I wouldn't.
    I live in an area where Muslims and Christians manage to live for the most part in peace and harmony. Christians sometimes break laws and face the judicial system. Muslims sometimes break laws and face the same system. Yes each might try to have their own system of laws in their home (and yes fundamentalist Christians sometimes want their own laws too) but when their religious laws cross the governmental laws they each face the consequences, as do those who follow no religion and break the law. Sounds equitable to me.
    Good Morning Friends,
    Had a quick thunderstorm this morning.  Geez .. it is really humid out today.
    River ... Loved your post.  I was thinking about this issue yesterday and you expressed my feelings.  The Fundamentalists of any religion are frightening to me as well.  The Fundamentalist's do not believe that the laws of the state (any state) apply to them.  Their insistence on answering to a higher order is what is so scary, especially about the Tea Party.  As for my thinking, I believe the Tea Party is nothing but the Fundamentalist wing of the Republican party.  I believe in the separation of church and state and just can't abide by the Fundamentalists beliefs that they are "special" and therefore can do whatever they want.
    As for SuzieQ's posts, she has a right to her viewpoint ... but I don't have to agree with it.  Her visceral distaste for the Islamic religion and Muslim people as a whole is rather disturbing.  I do agree with her that Sharia Law has no place in the U.S. as it is based on religious beliefs rather than nonsecular laws.
    Well ... I better get back to work.  Finally got some reports in ... it's a blessing to be able to work.  I am really disappointed that I did not hear back from the jobs I applied for.  I revamped my resume, but might have done it too late to get noticed for those jobs.
    hugs,
    Bren
    Sunny - I've had the same gut reaction to that comment involving hatred of a whole group of people, here, on our own thread.  Yes, everyone has a right to their opinion, but that does not mean it should not be commented upon.  This is not something our group usually tolerates and I think Suzie has received responses in the way our group responds to these things - kindly and with an attempt to enlighten for the most part.  My first reaction was to find out what was going on in Australia to evoke this kind of response.
    I'm still bothered by it.  Hatred is a strong word - for a whole group of people, that's over the top.
    This only brings attention to the fact that the only Conservative member of our group would say something like this.  This is something Conservatives do - hate whole groups of people.  Unbelievablely, over there, we were called "intolerant" for not tolerating someone who hates whole groups of people.  Irony anyone?
    I don't report posts - I'd rather talk about them myself.  Reporting posts seems to be something only, or mostly, Conservatives do too, for some reason.
    Suzie,
    I'm sorry that your experiences have led you to dislike and dismiss an entire class of people.  I've been fortunate in that while I've certainly met horrible Christians, Republicans, Democrats, Americans, Irish, English, blacks, whites, orientals, Jews....etc...I've never met a statistical sampling so overwhelmingly bad that I could project it to an entire population.
    I'm not fond of all the ways people talk and dress, nor am I fond of the pain and mutilation involved in ear piercing and male circumcision, but I can only hope to point out the wrongs in established social mores and hope for change.  I certainly cannot hate an entire cross section of humanity because of it.  It makes no sense.
    Again, I'm sorry for your life experiences.  I hope you have some positive ones soon, ones that can perhaps persuade you to another path.
    All the best,
    Susan
    My aunt was in a religion that believed a woman should walk behind her husband, not cut her hair, never show her ankles, chest or shoulders and serve her husband.  My cousins were not allowed to participate in gym classes or swimming because of the attire.  No dancing in any fashion.  I loved my aunt dearly but had trouble with her submissiveness to her husband.
    They were ministers in a Christian church that lived by the word of the New Testament.
