    jbok - yay!!!

jbd - excellent, so glad that your flap is holding on - I know it was disappointing after your last surgery and you have handled the situation with grace.

Thank you specialk it was a challenge this time.  The recovery is going slower than the previous time.  I have more pain so I am getting more pain meds and feeling fuzzy most of the time.  I hope it will improve over the weekend and I will be more normal.  My hip bone is the sorest but he had to drill holes in it to reconnect severed muscle tissue.   The artery used is the iliac circumflex artery and is located near the iliac crest of the hip bone.  I want to study this procedure more but haven't found good articles on the web yet.

I am enjoying being home but I promised I would not leave my lounge chair for anything but bathroom needs.

I will see the surgeon first thing Monday morning before he starts his surgeries for the day.  He says he feels good but he still says he is seeing signs of stress.  He thinks since we made 72 hours it would just be a hiccup if a problem starts rather than a failure.  So I may see him every other day next week.

Another difference his time was no doplar checking because he wanted no one pushing on the tissue flap or incisions except him.  This was hard for the nurses they all wanted to see so each time he came in to check me he would bring all the nurses he could so they could look while it was uncovered.  So weird because actually it looks a lot like the DIEP flap it just has my hip stretch marks going through the flap.

At this point whatever it takes.  I am going to try to get my thread started on the picture forum.  I just need to be able to stay awake and stay focused.

Sandra I will take over as soon as I can next week, just been having a hard time feeling confident.

Talk later mr sleep is calling again.

oyjoy- I see your Dx was ILC, too.  We are a bit of a minority!  I'd be interested to know how yours was discovered.   As you know, it's hard to diagnosis.

Best wishes everyone!  80% of recovery is attitude.  If you don't meditate, consider learning some techniques.....it helped me tremendously!

Slappy, glad you are home. How's it going so far?

Jbdayton, you just worry about YOU. I'm happy to continue with the thread. We're half way through our list already. Whenever you are ready, we'll know it because you'll be posting more and reporting great healing progress. For now, you delicate flower, just sit quietly and think positive thoughts.

jbokland- yes, we are a bit of a minority. A bit of my back story - I have gotten mamos since my late 20's because I'm a cancer survivor. When I was 15, I had a rare lymphoblastic lymphoma in my right femur and I was treated aggressively with rads to my leg for 2 months and chemo for two years.

About 6 months after my yearly mamo I noticed a little dimple on my left breast at 2 o'clock. I thought it was cellulite. I had never heard that dimpling was one of the signs of BC to look out for. I thought - great, you turn 45 and you get cellulite on your boobs too :/ About 6 months after that, I was putting lotion on my legs and the dimple look a little bigger. That's when I touched it. What I felt was a hard pea size lump and it didn't feel like my "normal" lumpy, bumpy breast. I emailed my doctor immediately and got in the next day so she could order me a mamo, which I was due for anyways. Then all hell broke loose and here I am today waiting to get these boobs off that are trying to kill me. How did you discover your sneaky ILC?

    Sandra4611,

I'm doing really well. One drain line got a little clogged up, but my hubby was able to strip it clean. I've cut my pain dose in half and doing my breathing thing every 30 minutes. Hubby is taking good care of me and our golden, Snoopy has not left my side since I got home from the hospital yesterday.

    Sandra,

I was happy to find out I would only have 2 drains. And I might get them out in only 1 week.

Any tips on drain care to make sure that happens? I slept in the recliner last night to keep from rolling over the tubes in my sleep.

slappy - activity usually equals increased drain output, so try to stay quiet if possible.  Other than that there is not much you can physically do to make sure the output stays at a low enough level to have them pulled.

I only had two drains - one came out at two weeks and one came a week later.  My husband (bless him) waited on me hand and foot and wouldn't let me do anything until both drains were out.  I alternated between cussing those drains every day and talking to them nicely but they had a mind of their own.  lol  I have a good friend who had a BMX three years ago and she reminded me constantly those drains were there for a reason and it wouldn't do me any good to get them out early.  I knew she was right but that didn't make me feel much better.

Hi All!  This is my first post so hopefully I'm doing it right!  I'm scheduled for BMX with tissue expanders & SNB on June 24th.  The ladies on these boards are incredible and so inspirational  and their openness has truly lessened my fears of the unknown.  A big thanks to every one of you!

Welcome to the sisterhood Wizard50. I've added you to the header. I know what you mean. BCO.org has been my anchor since diagnosis 10 months ago. I shudder to think how it would have gone if I hadn't learned so much here.

Dorthi, fingers crossed you get a June surgery date! The waiting is the WORST isn't it?

Slappy, ha-ha, I obviously know nothing about getting drains out early because mine keep putting out mega-cc's - not all of them but there's always one that hangs on forever. It's not because of activity. Like ufcmom, my husband insisted I sit in the recliner and heal. It can have to do with your PS's rules on when he/she will take out a drain. Mine was pretty strict. Other PS aren't and take them out quick. The drains are annoying but SO necessary. That fluid has to go somewhere, so if it can't come out, you could be stuck with a seroma that might need to be drained with a needle and can get infected. No thanks. I'll stay patient and keep my drains til the bitter end.

There is a balance, don't limit your activity just because of drains.  The benefit of your activity for your recovery is greater than the concern of the amount your drains expel.  Remember, the drains are to alleviate any fluids pooling under the skin....get up and moving is good for your recovery and respiratory status!

    Ojoy-

I always had dense, heavy breasts (34 DD).  They were very dramatic before my periods, swelling and tender.  My yearly mammograms always included ultrasounds and lots of waiting while they were double checked...just a hard read.

This year, I am in the shower and notice a firmness on the side of my breast.  It was time for my annual check so I went.   I had the usual exams, but they did a few ultrasounds...had me come back the next day so the doc could do it herself.  I was told I was getting older and it was just me...I was given info on hormones, cutting back on coffee, etc.

7 weeks letter, the firmness turned to a large lump, my breast was tender.   I'm thinking...well this is a pain in the ass, I don't want to got through menopause like this!.  I went back to the breast clinic.  It was then they did a biopsy and found out my Dx.   Of course, the ILC did not show up on Mammogram, ultrasound or even a CT I had later.  It only shows on MRI....like a Doppler radar map of a storm!

    jbokland and ojoy--

I have ILC too and your experiences are very similar to mine.  I found my lump in October  after a "clean" mammogram in July-- it was very close to the skin.  I went in for a another mammogram and sonogram after finding the lump and the radiologist marked my chart as negative but advised me to see a breast surgeon just to be safe.  The breast surgeon was very worried and I did a surgical biopsy that confirmed the cancer and you know how the rest goes....  It was after the biopsy that I had an MRI and the cancer barely showed up.  I worry about a recurrance --- do you know what your follow up care will be?  My surgeon says she will do a physical exam every three months and a scan after two years-- I don't know if that is normal.

I've been lurking on this thread while I've been waiting for my surgery date.  I finally got it yesterday and will be having my exchange surgery on June 20th.  I'm so thankful for these boards and hope I can offer encouragement to my fellow surgery sisters.  My BMX was rough and I didn't think I would ever feel better but I did steadily little by little.  So if you're having a hard time with recovery it will get better, even if it doesn't seem like it!

Just to show how different PS are, I wasn't even allowed to walk around the block for several weeks after each of my surgeries. Once the drains were out and he was happy with my healing, I got the ok. He said your body can only do a certain number of things at one time after an assault to it like a surgery. He said the best thing was to relax and let my body heal itself. Of course I walked around the house and upstairs, but no exercise in those first several weeks.

I had 2 drains, both out at one week. No change with increased activity, I was walking 4-6 miles a day with them in - my PS encouraged it as part of my healing. I had no nodes removed, and I think other than that it was just luck. I left hospital draining 20-25 ml, and was at 11-17 ml by day 5 or so. My PS removes at below 30 ml but I waited until below 20 ml since I was meeting his requirement on Day 1.

    Hi Everyone,

Just checking back in again. I had lumpectomy and SNB on Wednesday, June 4th. Virtually no pain at this point - never felt pain from lump incision as it's still completely numb, only from armpit incision. My steri strips under my arm fell of by Friday from all of the rubbing I assume. I've been covering the area with gauze very loosely to protect it. My only concern at this point is the swelling of my arm. I've been keeping it raised above my heart as much as possible, but it hasn't helped a great deal. I also have a rash on my whole arm from whatever they used in place of Betadine on me (which I am also allergic to), so that's not helping the situation either. I"m going to call my surgeons office in the morning to see if I should be concerned at this point.

Good luck to all of the ladies having their surgeries this week - I'll be thinking of you.

I thought I had posted from my phone in the hospital but Dilaudid must have clouded my abilities!

Have been home since Friday. Two drains. Visiting nurse came yesterday. Had been taking one Percocet every four hours but the pain was definatly muscle spasms and hit hard when I tried to recline. I had my surgeon call in a script for Valium and let me tell you it has made a world of difference. I actually haven't had any meds at all since last night. Also, warm showers help with the spasms.

the drains worry me, but only because the first day and a half I had alot of output but today and yesterday afternoon only 15 ml each time. I keep fearing there is a clot but we are stripping as ordered.
